    Hi Jason,

I just went through this over the weekend while getting folders ready for my WSO.

It was the first time I had ever zipped anything and it was quite a challenge because I'm a very non-techie person.

You can download a trial version of WinZip from their web site.

That's the route I took at first.

However, their newest version of WinZip puts the files in .zipx format instead of .zip.

My customers started emailing to tell me that they couldn't open the .zipx files and that they needed to be .zip or they wouldn't open at all.

So I played around on WinZip's site and couldn't figure out how to make their "classic" version work.

I ended up deleting WinZip's trial version from my computer and downloaded WinRAR from download.com.

It made more sense to my non-techie mind and it created .zip files for me.

    Hope that helps.

    Jill

      Forgot to mention --

      WinZip is not free.

WinRAR is free and it didn't download a bunch of crap onto my computer.

I tried downloading another program -- Jzip, I think it was -- and it wanted to put all kinds of tool bars and crap on my computer. Not cool.

    Hi Jason,

MS windows has zipping as a standard feature since XP (they called it a compressed folder). Just right click on the files and select send to compressed folder.

      Wow! Thanks Clayton!

      Didn't even know that.

It's interesting how there are some many functions on your computer that haven't been explored.

Let me borrow a phrase from my grandmother...

      "Glory be!"

I had no idea you could zip using Windows.

Now I feel like such a goober!

Definitely good to know. Can't wait to zip up something else and do it the easy way this time!

      Thanks again,

      Jill

I prefer WinRar as Jillian mentioned. I have just found it easier and more options for zipping and unzipping. Or I don't like change
