Creating my Own membership site. Content isn't a problem but members. Any help?

Hi everybody.

I have really learnt a lot from here so far and have been able to understand what it is worth to run a membership site.

Mine is goin to run on wordpress with a membership plugin. I am still test running the theme i will be using on my localhost with the plugin functionality. Everything is set for me to go online.

First help and question.
I have challenges getting 2checkout to work on my platform in order to accept payment. I can't use paypal because my country is not allowed on it. Can some one help me on this?

Secondly, building membership has been a pain. What methods can anyone suggest to help me get the attention of potential visitors who will become paid members?

Like i said content is not going to be a problem and yes plans have been put in place to over deliver and give them more value for their money

    so it ain't free !
the free ways takes time and effort obviously

I wouldn't mind if you shared the free methods. So you are saying that I could do a wso for a membership. Do you think it will go through or the idea be bought by people?

If no one will buy it, then either

        a. Your sales letter blows
        b. Your idea for a membership site is not IM related (which is the focus of this forum
        c. You didn't research if your forum/topic can be monetized in the first place (big no no).

Good! I think i have met with the requirement of my service being in IM. What still baffles me is how to get people to respond to becoming paid members

Do you have any skills in building traffic. Master ONE traffic source and work with others who mastered other sources. You need a way to distribute.

Find out where your targeted demographic hangs out and buy MEDIA on those sites! That's a great way. If you don't have money you better have time to do free traffic methods.

If your service is IM related the easiest thing you can do is put a link in your signature. That'll drive some traffic.

That is the point I am trying to make. There isn't any free traffic source method that I know. Can anyone intimate me on some?

Although, I am expecting money from a source but pending when then money comes, the free method will suffice.

You have a lot of hurdles to get over first.

You gotta set eveything up first optin pages, thankyou pages, funnels, and get content ready....however!!...once its all set up you then become MR TRAFFIC man and get all the traffic you can to your optin pages.....and then test everything yes....

We use optimize press, and also S2 member intergrated with paypal to make sure you are getting subscriptions and when they join, they go on your list, and incase you get cancelatoins they cancel on your list too.

I been doing paid membership sites for years, and they are my main source of income. I even have a $7 USD per month newsletter with 800 members. $5600 a month without hardly any work on my part. So anyone who is not doing membership sites has got rocks in their head for sure.

Hope this helps. See the WSO room for my FREE PAID membership site ebook. Its free....nothing! and will help you tremendously.

I am using wpWishlist as my membership plugin because it is quite flexible for. But the traffic thing still remains the challenge. I haven't gotten any anything to this effect from anyone here

        Ribechi,

If you're getting some traffic, but not getting sign-ups, one potential reason for poor conversion could be your offer.

The choices we all face on a daily basis are so numerous and sometimes quite confusing - it's paramount that your offer for membership is extremely compelling for your target audience.

Asking someone to commit to monthly payments (I assume that's your plan) based on what some biased stranger is telling them can be a real stretch!

Your offer needs to be crystal clear, jam packed with oozing value in the niche, and so obviously no-brainer that the only logical and smart thing to do is to hit the buy button immediately. You want your prospects to be ripping off their underwear in an attempt to pull their wallets and credit cards out of their pockets!

Is that what your offer is like?

I've been involved with membership sites for myself and coaching others for over 10 years. The problem with offering something free is that you attract a lot of freebee seekers who wouldn't necessarly buy at any price. Instead offer something of real value related to the information on your site for a $1 or some other very low price but include a "bonus" of 30 days access to your membership site which they will be billed for at the end the month unless they cancel.

This is 100% ethical IF you make it very clear what they are getting, don't try to hide it in any way and make it easy for them to cancel before it's time to pay.

This is some great advice here.

Don't forget that getting your conversions (such as from 0.2% to 5%) takes time. You'll need to test different ways to convert traffic.

I know some people who have tested over 30 different conversion funnels, and FINALLY found one that works.

Don't get discouraged, keep testing out new ideas or sources.

Also, think to yourself what makes YOU buy? When I was searching for information products as a newbie, I'd purchase certain products because the free material was so good, and so convincing, I knew that being a paid member was hard to pass up on.

Lastly, brush up on your copywriting or sales tactic skills. There's always room for improvement there, no matter how much of an expert you are in IM.

        Hi Celente,
I could also do with a link to your WSO as I am thinking of having a membership site of my own but am not sure how to get started.
