Authority Website Idea

I want to build a review website that targets 2 specific description keywords which can relate to a wide variety of products. For an example let's use the keywords "best free", these are common words used by a searcher who is looking for the best free phone apps, best free hamsters, etc. I would want to establish authority on Google for the words "best free".

I would have 20+ "best free" niches and each niche would have 5 individual product review articles. Each niche would have a keyword that has low competition and search traffic when combined in a phrase with the words "best free".

Overtime would Google give me decent page ranks for searches with "best free" attached to low competition keywords because it views me as an authority site in this field? Or is it a lost cause and Google would rank every website dedicated to the specific niche of "best free hamsters" or "hamsters" niche over my website which is dedicated to the words "best free".

I'm new to SEO so this may not make sense but I think it does.

Don't worry, the idea makes sense. At least you are trying to think outside the box.

I think your problem is going to be finding 20 niches with low competition keywords, as you stated. It can be done, but not as easy as you may think, especially focusing it around a "best free". Usually low competition means low volume, at least in my experience.

IMO, it would be possible for your "best free(whatever)" website to show up under someone's "best free something different" (or whatever) but it would be buried 15 pages deep most likely. Since the majority will be searching strong keywords with a ton of pages in front of you first.

The low competition niches aren't a problem as I already have found a bunch and "best free" was just an example. I think competing with websites specifically optimized to target certain keywords that my website has only a few articles on will be a issue unless Google gives my website "authority status" for searches containing "best free". Being classified as a authority website for the words "best free" would level the playing field.

I'd rather you spend your time building 20 micro-niche sites. They rank easier than a new "authority" site because they are more targeted and then if one of them gets slammed in google at least it isn't killing your whole revenue source.

Well this would be a long term project I could still build a couple niche sites on the side. I just want to know if this experiment is somewhat viable so I don't waste my time.

I really don't think this is going to work, unless your 2 descriptive words are somewhat unique. If they are fairly unique, then I think you are going to have to shoot for more content than 20 niches X 5 reviews.

Might be worth a try, but I would only do this as a test case scenario where you are doing this on the side so that if it doesn't work, you've only lost your time and can chalk it up to a learning experience.

Or at least structure it in a way so that even if you don't get the results you wanted from the 2 descriptive words, then the site would work in other ways and still be worth your time.
