What do you recommend for a simple website that I use to promote my service?

I'm decent with creating wordpress websites, but it always has that "blog" look to it. What would you recommend for creating a simple "non-blog" website? I've done some searching around the forums, and I came across something called "dreamweaver".

Any suggestions? Or can Wordpress do what I'm looking for via some theme that I don't know about?

Thanks!

  • Dreamweaver has a pretty steep learning curve if you only want to create one simple website.

For a simple, one-time static site, I'd find myself an html template (oswd.org and its kin have hundreds you can freely use), then import it as a template into something like OpenOffice Writer.

Create the pages one at a time, then link them together and upload the whole shooting match to your domain.

If you see yourself adding to the site regularly, you can still use Wordpress. You just need to find a theme (or buy one or pay to have one customized) to whatever look you want.

  • Cool thanks for those leads!

So there is a way to make a website using wordpress that doesn't have that "blog" look to it? I'd much rather use wordpress, but I just have no intentions to ever write a blog on this site. Basically, it's just a site I want to make for my friend who runs his own construction business. I just want to add some pictures, a page describing what he does, some contact info, and that's about it. If I could use Wordpress for this, I'd be very happy!

    • There are lots of corporate and business WP themes out there that don't look like a typical blog theme at all. In fact, you almost cannot identify them to be wordpress until you look at the source code. A quick google search for corporate, or business wp theme should give you a pretty good idea.

    • Some amazingly good Wordpress themes at ThemeForest. Works of art that look nothing like blog sites.

Also, get yourself a responsive one so users on mobile phones, tablets, etc. get a good experience. Also responsive sites are compliant with Google's new Hummingbird algorithm.
