Take a video, turn into eBook and sell it

Hi,

I recently bought a product in the network marketing niche and it is great. I now want to turn the video into an eBook branded by me and give it free to my downline, but I also want to sell it.

Is it illegal or wrong to take a video, turn it into an ebook and sell it? Rebranded by me?

          I think you can. Because I have read a lot of ebooks and watched videos about passive online income, SEO etc. Almost all of them telling us the same thing in the end using different kind of expressions. If they can, why not you?

          Like I said in my earlier post, videos tend to do better than ebooks but you can still write an ebook.

          I would say use the inspiration from the video, add your own ideas and create a new product.

    I'm sure you can give more value, so i think you can create ebook or video from your point of view then you give more value.. that value can from your experience or from another good books

    I think you can convert it into an ebook.. good idea go for it.. I know videos do well as compare to ebooks but still lots of people still prefer go for an ebook..

    Ethically it's not OK. Legally, it's a gray area. Copyright doesn't cover concepts or ideas, so just make sure you write something completely unique.

    Be aware that the video could contain trademarked terms. If you lift them and use them in your ebook in the same context, you could be screwed.

    Turning someone else's product directly into a product of your own seems legally and ethically dodgy.

    Learn from their product, study some more, and develop your own ideas. Turn *that* into an ebook and you can feel proud that you have developed your own product, not nicked someone else's.

      I agree, just transcribing videos and turning them into an ebook isn't the way to go. Your product will be better if you go through the videos, implement what they say and simply report on what happened (a casestudy). While you are implementing, you will probably find better ways to do things and even new ways to do new things. Add those to your book and you can safely say that the product is your own work.

    Surely your best bet would be to ask the folks who made the video?
    I wonder why people always ask here first if it's alright to rip something off?
    Could it be they have a conscience?

    I think it's a grey area as well. I wouldn't do it, unless you contact the original product owner and offer some kind of royalty for the information to re-brand it. The creator might be happy to do so, especially if it's in a different format.

    Either that or significantly add to the info with researched insights, a case study and really make it a product that can hold its own. Imagine how your buyers would feel if it wasnt significantly different than a product they've watched or bought elsewhere.

    I've gone to a lawyer on a similar type of idea or the past and they can still sue you. You're better off rewriting it so it's your own product and then you'll have no problems.

    I would check out the rights you had when you bought the product - whether there is any information on what you may or may not do with it.

    If in doubt you could ask the author; they might be happy to have an ebook produced in return for an acknowledgement.

    Otherwise, take inspiration from the product, add your expertise to it and don't plalgerise.
