Recommend a good forum plugin

Just like the title says. Does anyone have a good recommendation for a good free or cheap WP forum plugin? Should I even have a forum on a gaming blog?

Thanks
Scott

Dude, a gaming forum on a gaming blog is heading for sucess. As a gamer, i love talking about games, sharing my Footage and answering Q.s

Gaming is always a competition, and people want to be seen as the best gamer in a game, so you can get lots of free content from the members of your forum. You can encourage your readers to join your forum by offering xbox live memberships or other game cards, and its so cheap. As for the Forum Plugin, i would just create a forum in another directory, so xxx.gaming.com/forum and upload MYbb or something to it. However if you are dead set on a plugin, try and find out what this plugin is called.
    Single Mother Forum

Contact the site owner im sure he/she will tell you. Not my forum so dont know. If you do se up a forum, let me know il join.

There are a few forum plug-in forums available for Wordpress. If you own a gaming site, then you should definitely have a forum. Some of the most successful forums out there are gaming forums.

    Some plug-ins:

    Vanilla Forums
    bbPress
    Simpleress
    ForumPress

    vBulletin...

    Seriously.

You can pick up a 2nd hand pre-owned license for $35 now. (Older version but that's the best verison.)

$35 is cheap for what you get.

      Never thought of that...

I am still using VB4 for the only reason that I am not confident enough for VB5 :-)

Still worth the money :-) I have managed to carve a very healthy lifestyle off the back of just one forum :-)

I've used VB for years, but I'm not especially enthused with the latest version which is why, like many others, I'm considering a switch to XenForo.

I personally don't believe that there is a WP forum plugin suitable for a real focus on a community discussion based website. You're going to also need a lot of solid support if the site becomes popular which is why I'd stay away from most of the free forums.

It really comes down to a choice between either XF or VB.

Get vBulletin, phpBB or MYBB. Install it on a subdomain, e.g. forum.mysite.com.

I'm not a big fan of these Wordpress forum plugins. A standalone forum is the way forward.
