How to monetize humor niche traffic?

Hi all,
I have a fan page that is in the humor niche, every post gets hundreds of likes and shares. However, whenever I try to go really slightly off topic and possibly even insert an affiliate link, it's always a big failure.
So what am I missing? How do some of the huge humor fan pages make money? Any ideas as for how to monetize all that fan page traffic?

Appreciate the help!

    Haven't tried it, but here's a little hunch-based brainstorming:

    Avoid
    - digital products
    - joke books, etc.

    Try
    - funny T-shirts
    - prank/gag stuff: fake lottery tickets; fart stuff maybe (Jack Vale, the YouTube farter, monetizes with the Pooter)

I really liked these ideas. I think adsense won't work well in humor niche. The CPC will be very low. Selling joke books and funny T shirts can work really well.

You can always monetize with basic Google Adsense. It's free. You will start at making $2 or $3 daily but over time it adds up. The ads will often rotate and cater to the reader so don't worry about the ads being off topic.

Join up with Commission Junction, Shareasale, Amazon, Affiliate Window, etc.

And remember, it's a volume game. With many industries, you need thousands, not just hundreds, to make a decent profit. Keep working your seo, marketing and growing your site. You'll see the results.

T-shirts don't sell like they used to since Cafepress and Zazzle flooded the market. Can't speak to the books.

    Try gag gifts.

Vat19.com has a good affiliate program.

On the whole, you get what you pay for.

It can be hard to monetize humor pages because people are only there for the jokes and tend to ignore posts with affiliate links. You could try posting related content with MyLikes links. If you're posting affiliate links, make sure you post a photo along with them and make the sure the affiliate link is related to the niche.

    Thanks for the tips.
Any other services, similar to MyLikes - The world's largest advertising network for the social web that pay for sharing / driving traffic to their humor posts?

I bet your fans buy something as they are with your page just for fun, but if you want to earn some money you can apply for adsense.

What kind of humor? Instead of focusing on funny products I think you should think more about the actual target audience and what they would like. If for example this was some kind of anime humor site traffic might be receptive to cheap drawing tablets, comics, phone cases, etc...

If you set up a website where you post your funny images, you can monetize with CPA offers.
