Autoresponder + broadcast emails or Autoresponder all the way?

Hey guys,

Just a little curious on how you all handle your autoresponder and broadcast emails to your list.

Do you have an autoresponder sequence (maybe 5-6) and then you broadcast emails as and when you want?

Or

Do you add every new broadcast to the autoresponder sequence, that way every new opt-in gets every email you've ever written and will not be overlapped such that they receive two emails in a day (if you broadcasted previously).

The reason I ask is because I'm currently doing the first method and I'm wondering if I am overwhelming readers with two many emails.

Thanks guys.

    It depends.

In some of my lists, the information is evergreen and not seasonal, so each email gets added to the sequence.

For others, there is an intro sequence, usually a basic course, then broadcasts on a promised schedule (weekly or biweekly) and very occasional announcements that don't fit the format.

Yet a third variation is a list that is purely an announcement list, and anything sent to the list is either seasonal or quickly outdated. Other than the short welcome sequence laying out how the list works, how to unsubscribe, what to expect, etc., everything is broadcast.

Broadcasts are very common way of reaching subscribers once in a while. Like short duration promotion or an upgrade notification etc. But keep watch on your unsubscribe stats. If you getting more unsubscribers with broadcasts, keep the broadcast number little low.

Hi Alden, for me, it's autoresponder series emails all the way. I avoid broadcasts for these reasons: http://www.warriorforum.com/main-int...ml#post7301227

I'm on your list. I didn't complain or unsubscribe.

What do you do with the list once the series ends? Do you just add to the series or move them to another series in the same niche?

Both. Autoresponder for normal non time specific information + broadcasts for anything time specific, speicial announcments, etc.

Hi Al, my series don't end. I'm an article marketer, so I have the content anyway. As long as I'm still "in the niche", I'm writing 3 articles per month for it. The content of those 3 articles will cover the 5-6 emails per month I need to add to the series, to keep them going for ever. As long as people are opening the emails, I'm still potentially earning something from them, and it costs almost nothing to do. Autoresponder fees are inconsequentially small, compared with the income they can generate. My oldest list is now nearly 5 years old (though most are more recent) and has over 350 messages in it, now. If I didn't have enough, I'd even rather send them the last 100 emails all over again, than "just stop".

For me, it's all about continuity. I'm an old MLM-er from a long way back, well, from a few years ago, anyway - I believe (to distort an old MLM proverb) that "the main purpose of every email is to make sure they open the next email", and that as long as you get that right, the money will flow in.

Whatever method you pick- make sure they don't overlap.

I've been on lists- especially in the IM niche- that definitely has both, and I'd be getting 2-4 emails a day from these guys.

Since every email was a promotion, it was obvious that these guys were playing the churn-and-burn method.

I'm sure he was making money, but also pissing a lot of people off.
