Hello guys, I have recently come into some financial troubles and also have been layed off from work and I have some old domains which I am considering selling there is two main ones both are 2 years and 6 months old and are OneDirectionWall.Com and TheOneDirection.Com

Any ideas where the best place to sell them is tried Sedo but was just put into a pile of 1000's of domains. Also do you think I would get any actual money from them? Obviously its quite vague but just looking at various options tbh .. hopefully I will get a job soon! Ah

Selling domains can be tough. Even if you have a great domain name to offer, unless someone is looking, there won't be a sale. It may take months for a great domain to sell. I sure hope you're not relying on this too much.

Well the most obvious way to monetize those domains would be for the band 'One Direction'. I am guessing that was your plan. Since their bandname would be trademarked I wouldn't create any monetized sites on those domains as you could risk losing them at any time.

For that reason I don't think the domains are worth much at all.

And you're *hoping* to sell your domain names for a big price and get the financial backup needed or to pay your bills? Bad idea.

You're in the classic "desperate for money" situation and if you already haven't checked, I strongly suggest you start browsing the following thread:

    All the best!

In all fairness Mustafa, and I do know where you're coming from, but the OP is just trying to find some ways to make extra cash and may well be spending a vast majority of his/her time trying to find another job as well. I could be wrong too but we really don't know.

I do agree though, the "What to do if you're desperate" thread has a lot of very good ideas.

That's exactly why I mentioned "financial backup" (until he gets a job). Right now what's important for him is to make some extra cash - whether he does it by selling domain names or something else doesn't matter.

Like you said, the "What to do if you're desperate" thread does have some great ideas that can help him make some money and balance his financial situation.

Good grief, that's about the third time I've had to stand corrected today.

          I'm missing things today.

You could sell them through your registrar, keep trying on Sedo or improve on the website itself and sell it on Flippa. You could make some good money with a well built site and good traffic flowing through it. Consider improving on the site itself, then sell it on Flippa along with the domain.

    Trademark problems, I'm afraid.

So sorry to offer bad news when you're in such trouble to start with, but I think they may not even be worth their reg-fees. I may be wrong, but I wouldn't have registered them, myself, anyway.

The problem is that Trademarks don't actually need to be registered to be deemed to exist, and "One Direction" are probably going to have claims against these even if they haven't registered "One Direction" as a Trademark (though they probably have, really?).

    It doesn't matter, I think.

The big mistake that people typically make, in disposing of domain-names, is approaching it as a question of "Where should I sell it?" For most domain-names, the answer to that question is "It doesn't matter": what matters is how you go about notifying the potentially interested parties (to whom it may have artificial "value") of its availability and negotiating with them. If they don't even know that it's for sale, then it makes no difference where the sale takes place. What they're "worth" depends on what you can sell them for. And I mean "what you can sell them for". The amount of money they produce, on sale, depends on the skills of the person selling them at identifying, approaching and negotiating with potentially interested parties. Here's the truth (which almost nobody likes hearing, and some even try to deny): domain-names have no real value above and beyond their registration-fees. It's easily possible that an individual domain-name can be worth ten times as much to one vendor as to another. That's normal, not exceptional.

But, again, in this case, there's the probable trademark problem ...

The reason you can often register domain-names like this so easily is that they generally have no real commercial value, or value for commercialized usage, to anyone other than the trademark-owner.
