Building my first email list advice

Hello all

I have been running a blog for a few months now and its going ok. I am thinking now that I should be building an email list to begin marketing a service or product (not decided which yet).

My blog is a wholesale and general business forum and I was going to offer a free list of wholesalers with the email required for instant download.

Here is where I need some help.

1) How do I go about setting up the instant download (im using Wordpress).

2) Reading here it seems some prefare a pop up and some a splash page as the squeeze page. what works best for you?

    Are you not, in effect, already building a list, then, in the form of your membership-list? Doesn't your forum software enable you to send a mailing out to the members? Or are you now wanting to build an additional list from other visitors who don't join the forum?

    (We're not talking about the site in your signature, presumably? That doesn't appear to be a forum? Or have I misunderstood?).

      Sorry Alexa, I see my mistake there. It is actually a blog and not a forum. My visitors don't sign up to read or comment.

    I would suggest always sending people to a new window away from your blog and having them land on a capture page to collect their email address only. If you're not a technical person their are blogging platforms out there with pre built blogs, capture pages, follow up emails, etc. Just do your research and look into it. Great question!

    Hi there. I recently installed an email opt in page on my FB fan page. You could do the exact same through your widgets on your word press blog. Check out Fiverr, you will get a great looking opt in page installed for 5 bucks.
