Having Your Own Email Autoresponder Service

Given how expensive email autoresponder services like aweber are, esp when you start to get a very large list, I wonder if people have tried to set this up themselves? What is involved? I realize one ingredient is a server to use.

The main issue is having 1 Ip address sending out tons of emails the email providers like yahoo and gmail are just going to blacklist you

Many people don't want the expense of a AR like AWeber or Get Response, but if you decide to use a free one or self hosted one and want/need to switch to a paid solution is where you run into some problems. You have to import the list and everyone has to confirm they want to stay on your list. You normally lose a lot in the process.

I absolutely would not recommend setting up your own service!

    Why? Here's several important reasons:

    1) Unlike legit paid autoresponder services, you won't have the staff or ability to insure your servers IP isn't blocked by recipients of your emails hitting their spam button.

    2) Setting up your own system would be hellish complicated

    3) Not all paid autoresponder suppliers are expensive. I've used one for years at only $47 a month for 10,000 subscribers - and it includes capture page builders, Ad and URFL trackers, Blogging Platfporm and a dozen other services all online marketers have to have to succeed. Money very well spent!

Oh, and by the time you have 10,000 subscribers you will be so far into profit that even $500 a month wouldn't be a problem. :-)

I say use whatever available resources to get yourself to the stage where you can afford a full fledged AR.

If you want to test the waters before spending then use the free service like that provided by YMLP. They are not 100% free - just have a trial version (not time bound). If used wisely and correctly this WILL get you to the stage where you can then afford a more robust AR.

    Cheers

when you have a big list that is responsive, you should be making enough money to afford an auto responder.
