In your opinion what is the future of the Internet?

I'll start.

I think 3D-Printing will be huge as will the Internet of things.

I need sunglasses to answer this because it is so bright. Brighter than the sun...

Social media will be huge, thanks to mobile internet technology... e.g youtube, facebook, twitter.

I agree. Social media will get even bigger and more advanced.

Just look at things like Google Glass which will allow people to take more photos, more videos, and possibly one day upload them straight to social media sites.

Social media isn't as big yet as it will get imo.

In future time, people can watch high resolution videos such as the blue ray through internet without downloading the video previously. For this time, Youtube and other video services don't fit this resolution level because of the current internet infrastructure.

internet is going more social. People are interacting more than ever on it. If you want to succeed in net marketing and make some money as of right now, get on social media before us marketers run it into the ground like we're doing, email marketing, banner ads, squeeze pages etc. the future is going to be hella social. my opinion, it would be wise to get on snapchat while it's still young, vine is good for marketing. I try to keep an eye out for these social media platforms that are young and haven't fully evolved yet. Interaction and staying connected is the future.

    Great question!

Great thoughts too. I agree that it will become more social in the coming years.

In my case, I would like to touch on the industry of work that the Internet will revolutionize.

After reading this article on the trends for the future of work, I could say that the future of the Internet will bring about more jobs without geographical limitations. It is currently being done with oDesk, Elance and Staff.com (freelance and remote work).

Right now, it is rapidly growing. In the future, I believe this will be huge.

We certainly do! I'm getting on a bit in years and can remember my grandfather saying "Don't be ridiculous, airplanes without propellers will never stay up"!

In my lifetime I've seen 78 rpm big solid plastic records, 45 rpm and 33 rpm vinyls, wire recorders, reel to reel tape recorders, cassette recorders, CDs, and now CDs are dying fast and MP3s are taking over.

I've seen color photography come into existence, color TV come into existence, I've seen teleprinters relegated to the rubbish tip, business computers I used to sell with MSDOS and a massive 10Mb hard drive and 240 Kb of memory have been and gone, dot matrix printers in black and white have gone, replaced by color inkjet machines now costing $40 when they used to be $5000, color laser printers were firstly $25,000 and now a few hundred.

I've seen the arrival of the WWW, mobile phones that used to be the size and weight of a housebrick and could do nothing other than make and receive phone calls have been replaced by today's amazing smartphones and iPhones.

This doesn't include other areas such as space travel, Sputniks, walking on the moon, spaceships to Mars and beyond, all the medical marvels of the past 60-70 years, I could write a list that goes on forever!

Actually, my whole life has been lived in exciting times! Humans are amazing creatures.

Social analytics. If you know what your prospects are doing online, and with whom they are doing it, you will be able to sell them exactly what they need, when they need it. I think this space is going to become even bigger and might start bordering on the "creepy".

I recently came out of the telecom / wireless industry. We developed large systems for the big wireless operators (switches, base stations etc).

In the past 2 or 3 years, there has been a lot of buzz (that I don't fully understand...yet) about the number of devices going up ten-fold, maybe more. What's a device? Not just a cellphone anymore. Think refrigerator sending you a text when milk is low. Think lawn sprinkler sensors, home security, and more "smart house" type of gadgets.

Since wireless is pretty much built out (across the US at least), innovation on the personal communication device is slowing down (what else can you do to enhance a phone call?). What is growing is apps - which in turn can connect to the end devices.

The major carriers are reporting voice traffic steadying out, text messages also steady, but DATA is on a steep rise, which is a big problem for carriers to keep up with.

So to answer your question, my opinion is that mobile is going to be the next big wave, due to the amount of devices that will become part of our day-to-day life. Replacing laptops in due course according to some media reports. Well, they'd better make the screens bigger and easier to type on first! Where is the line between a big cellphone (think Note) and a laptop anyway?

The future of the internet is now. The Singularity is very near just research Ray Kurzweil. Google glass, wearable devices, wi-fi access everywhere we go with incredible speeds, downloadable physical products using a 3D printer, flying cars, self-driving cars. The future of the Internet is very bright indeed. Think of it this way just 10 years ago we didn't know what a iphone was, today i can facetime, record videos, post to facebook, search for any answer(great for debates), bank, use as a flashlight and so many possibilities. The next 10 years are going to be great i can't wait. Ok so i talked about the future of tech but without the internet none of these things will be possible.

Hopefully countries like China will change their policies on internet control and we can have another 1Billion people potentially visiting our sites.

India and other developing countries will hopefully have the majority of their populations using the internet every day and there may be more and more opportunities for all of us to make money.

Or of course IM will be over-run and it will be extremely difficult to make money here. Someday we may laugh about today and think how easy it was in this time.
