5 Years Of Internet Marketing - Here's My Advice For Beginners

I've been involved in the "internet marketing" space since October 2008, this month marks 5 years since first getting involved. I don't post much here anymore, as I'm busy with projects and servicing clients - however I wanted to post this thread as a way of giving newbies an insight into my head - after 5 years and thousands of hours worth of invested time, money and efforts.

Here they are in no particular order.

1. Quit f*cking around selling crappy $27 ebooks. This is NOT a business and you know it isn't.

2. Deal with ESTABLISHED business owners that are ALREADY making money - not aspirational types that are "just starting", or "dream about making money". Work with established professionals with marketing budgets.

3. Build a real business - quit chasing the dream. Sitting around making $5,000 a day in your pyjamas is a myth. Sure, there might be a handful of people doing it, but the failure rates in this industry are MASSIVE.

4. Failure rates in this space are huge - 95% and higher.

5. Offer services - then start selling info products. What does this mean? It means you need to do WHAT IS GOING TO MAKE YOU MONEY NOW. The quickest way to make this happen is to start selling services. Services put money in the bank NOW. Sales from your $7 ebook about knitting boots for kittens wont.

6. Think long term. One of the biggest mistakes I made in this industry was "constantly starting". "Wait, I've got an idea for ...blah blah blah". Forgeddit. If you're constantly telling yourself this - you're a GONER.

7. If you can't explain to people what it is that you do - YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT YOU'RE DOING.

8. Stop chasing instant riches. 99% of these fancy sales letters from those claiming to be making $100,000 a month, are people that live at home with their mom.

9. Info products can be profitable - but you MUST have an audience.

10. If you don't know EXACTLY who your audience is, you're a GONER. You need to be able to sit down and actually write down EXACTLY who the people are that your message is for. If you write down, "anyone that likes the colour blue", then forget it. You don't know what you're doing.

11. Get a mentor.

12. Quit buying bullshit products.

13. Quit being a cheapskate. "That guy wanted to charge me $1,000 per month for coaching, bugger that. I'll just read the Warrior Forum". Guess what, in 5 years time, you'll still be here trying to "figure it out"

14. Life is not easy.

15. You're going to lose a lot of money, unless you're smart and get a mentor.

16. Never give up, but don't be an idiot. If somethings not working, get over it. Let it go. Move on. Try something else, but don't "idea hop".

17. Stop trying to convince everyone around you that they should be doing what you do.

18. No one gives a shit about your website.

19. Be prepared to go to bed at night completely and utterly clueless about why "nothings working". But don't do this for years on end. GET A MENTOR.

20. If you're not investing into paid courses and mentorship, get a job. You're not serious.

21. Stop selling bullshit in health related niches. People that are suffering need help. They don't need your crappy $5 ebook about "How to cure cancer by eating these 5 weird foods".

22. Get off the forum and get to work.

23. Surround yourself with successful people.

24. When a successful person gives you advice, shut up and listen. Then get to work.

25. If you have any more than 2 websites, then you're wasting your time. Do one or two things EXTREMELY WELL. Not hundreds terribly.

26. Stop buying shitty domain names, that you'll never use.

27. If people around you are being effected by you not making money, then START OFFERING SERVICES NOW.

28. The basic fundamentals to succeed online I could tell you in 30 minutes, but it will cost you $1,000.

29. Do something online that you at least enjoy. No one wants to create content around a subject they hate.

30. Build an audience

31. Go where your audience already is.

32. Stop outsourcing if you don't know what you're doing. Build systems first, then understand the process THEN offload the work.

33. There are people on this forum that are fantastic and they will help you enormously, but there are also a lot of fakes and idiots that have NFI what they're doing. Pay attention.

34. Watch what they DO, not what they say.

35. The customer goes in the middle.

36. Get some business cards printed. Meet with clients.

37. If you're not selling $500 info products to your clients, then somethings wrong.

38. If you dont have a whiteboard, then GET ONE. NOW.

39. Stop writing shitty 400 word spun articles. Publish media rich content (videos, written content, podcasts, photos, illustrations, pdfs, software, guides, games, online tools etc)

40. Never write lists like this, unless you're actually IMPLEMENTING them and marking them off as you go.

41. Write down EXACTLY what you need to do the NIGHT BEFORE you go to bed.

42. If you're sitting at your computer for 15 hours a day, then chances are, you're wasting 13 of those hours. Get in, attack, then get out.

43. You will do your best (and clearest) thinking, AWAY from the computer.

44. People will steal your shit. Get over it. If you have built a community (following) it wont matter.

45. There are NO SHORTCUTS. Stop chasing them.

46. Stop trying to GAME GOOGLE. It will not work.

47. Focus on income that is a) scalable b) recurring c) both

48. Network often

49. Less is more

50. If you're saying to yourself "I want to make $10,000 a month, then you've just joined a long list of other people that are totally clueless". Concentrate on HELPING people. The money will naturally follow.

Off the top of my head.

Enjoy

    Thanks.

I did many of these mistakes in the past but I've now understood that there are no shortcuts.

John, I wish you'd just say what you mean and not sugar coat everything.

Seriously, a nice list to consider. I found a couple points that gave me an "aha!" moment.

Awesome list John! Keep it up your Warrior Journey!

I would just say for newbies that it is very hard for them to really detect who is real guy and who is just fake mentor.

So in the start they may skip it for a while..
I mean here is alternative route:

    1. Start selling services to make money now. Like you mentioned.
    2. Fill the Mentor gap by studying and following top guys/gals (service providers)
in your chosen services category. And learn from them, their blogs, follow them
on social media, comment on their social posts, even ask, they will respond.

Just adding so not every newbie think that Mentor is needed otherwise they cannot
move forward, and in the process they may get robbed and lose trust and faith on
Internet Business (yeah it is business my dear newbies stop focusing on IM, it is IB!)

    Regards,
    Mohsin

    Hi John,

    I have a question regarding #37:
[blockquote]37. If you're not selling $500 info products to your clients, then somethings wrong.[/blocquote]

can you expand on it please, and share some insights, as I am successful programmer,
with small programming team with good clients around the globe, who own real businesses in real world, and they user our web design/development services to have
    their online presence.

Being a Warrior, service was always a route and not an end goal, end goal was always products. In the past I have sold $27/$47 price points products like: Themes, Reports and Plugins to my clients. However I really want to expand it to higher price points with higher value products for my customers. Your price point in #37 is very encourgaing, can you give advice to someone in my position. Any insights, examples and suggestions will be very welcome that what I can develop and sell to my clients which has such higher value and price point for my clients.

    Thank you,
    Mohsin

    Good post .

This was was funny. So true...

" 8. Stop chasing instant riches. 99% of these fancy sales letters from those claiming to be making $100,000 a month, are people that live at home with there mom. "

    " 11. Get a mentor. "
Overall i agree with you, but the problem is, that there is so much scam over this forum.
I mean, there is a shitload of coachers out there, but many of them can't teach/don't know what they teach/can't really help.

I spoke with many guys that took mentors from this forum and had a very bad luck.
And , those guys are action takers.
I was shocked by the bad advice those mentors gave them. It's just a plain BS.

So, how to find a good mentor? Most of them have great sells copies, and sounds like an experts.
Not always easy to make a selection.
Do you have tips , how to chose the right mentor?

I am full time IM for over 10 years, but still feel that i need a mentor in things that i have no experience with. (just theoretical knowledge, but no practice ).

5 years, hmmmm, l have been at this for 5 and a half years!

So l can relate to what you are saying!

95%, from what l have heard 97% get no-where online? As Frank Kern puts it, about 90% try once and give up, then a further 7% try a few times at most and then give up!

The remaining 2 or 3% will keep trying no matter what, and get there in the end, or as you have said, stop stuffing around with BS, and get to work!

At the moment l am doing graphics for a hub site, and eventhough l have fallen off the bike a few times, trying to learn it all, l know that since l enjoy the work and can outsource when the time is right, it is worth getting back on the bike once more.

Like anything in life, it might be difficult or even emotionally heart wrenching, in the beginning, but the rewards far outpace the effort!

Thanks John for this list. It's very helpful. It's true IM is not easy and those who claim to be earning $100K a month is not out to help newbies because they are setting wrong expectations to people. I've been reading up on IM influencers like Pat Flynn. His advice are just priceless. Right now, I could not afford to get a mentor yet.

$500 was just a figure off the top of my head. I've sold plenty of products at this pricing point, and some much higher ($2,000 etc)

My point is this, if you're working with business owners that are happy to invest $1,000 per month, or $20,000 straight up, do you really think they're going to have any problem paying $500 for an info-product?

The problem here (mostly on WF) is pricing. Everyone is trying to "low ball" everyone else to scramble together some earnings. Go into clear waters where there's less sharks and more dolphins and you'll find people happy to pay a much higher price.

Start moving in the right circles. Start networking. Go to PAID events. Figure out who the real leaders are in your area and FIND them. I found my mentor at a conference, then asked him out for lunch and a coffee. It was a bit weird but who cares. I've learnt more from him in 12 months, than I have in the 10 years I've been involved in online business.

My point is this - don't limit your thinking to this forum. Think bigger. Meet with people. Interact. Go where the quality is. Avoid the nonsense.

    18. No one gives a shit about your website.

    23. Surround yourself with successful people.
You're defined by two things in life: Your actions and your associations. Few winners associate with losers. Sure, everyone has that drunk Uncle Harold in their family that can't stay out of jail, but you don't have to hang around with him, even if he is the life of the party. Associate with winners, and emulate them.... and see #24

and read it first thing when you wake up. Get up early, unless you're in the music promotions and concert business

    48. Network often
Relationships are one of your most valuable resources. Grow them, and keep them strong

Off the top of my head.

    Enjoy

      11. Get a mentor.
For all the people who have been scammed paying a "professional mentor", or those worried about getting scammed, you have to realize that you don't necessarily need to pay for a mentor.

      Coaching? Yes.

      Consulting? Sure.

      Mentoring? Not so much.

Merriam-Webster's dictionary defines "mentor" as "someone who teaches or gives help and advice to a less experienced and often younger person."

You don't see anything about "for a fee" anywhere, do you?

I've been on both sides of the mentor/mentored relationship over the years, and not once did I have make a payment. That's not to say I haven't paid my mentors for specific coaching or work within their specialty, but the mentor relationship was based on something else. This is one of the few areas where "I just want to pass on what I learned" actually rings true.

Long story short, finding mentors is good advice. Picking one from a sales page or pitch isn't, usually. There are enough exceptions to keeps the scammers, fakers and charlatans in business for a long time.

What does this mean? It means you need to do WHAT IS GOING TO MAKE YOU MONEY NOW. The quickest way to make this happen is to start selling services.
This is the old "Gold rush" mentality. The real successes were not prospectors, most of them went broke. It was the guys selling picks and shovels and beans who made fortunes.

Stop chasing instant riches. 99% of these fancy sales letters from those claiming to be making $100,000 a month, are people that live at home with their mom.
The reason for the 95% failure rate - It takes work and time.

You need to be able to sit down and actually write down EXACTLY who the people are that your message is for.
Hint: You are not your target market.

When a successful person gives you advice, shut up and listen.
    Shut up? Listen?? really???

This is tough to get some people to accept. Like nearly impossible.

Off the top of my head.
Curious what we'd find if we went deeper.

    Good post, John. Thanks.

    Enjoy

Nothing is more important than $34, in my opinion.

If they are not your mentor - don't listen to a successful person tell you how to be successful, just look at what they do and model it.

If they are your mentor, well then yea, obviously you should listen to them : ]

hahaha, good post, some of it is gold, the rest very entertaining and bit narrow minded but great advice for most newbies.

#1 I know plenty of people making serious money selling crappy E-books for under $30.

#11 Personally I can't find anyone making more than me that would mentor anything, if you make more than $$,$$$ a month, please be my mentor.

#25, I have more than that, and it works fine.

#48 Networking is my weakest spot, 3rd sign from the universe this week that I need to get off my ass and work on it.

Great Post, makes a lot of sense and I guess most of us know it deep down but the discipline to apply it is what is holding us back (as well as some very good sales pitches that we should not be looking at)

I have tried to get a mentor on the cheap to take me to the next level (last time $2,500) and consequently just wasted my money and had to learn the long hard way (and not where I want to be yet)

If I was starting again, I would take your rules, decide what area excites me most and what sort of a IM business I want and find the right mentor, get over the amount of money they would charge and look at it as a small investment compared to the costs of setting up a offline business.

(having said all that you can make money selling the ebooks so that you can afford to pay a mentor, if you have no other seed capital)

      Cheers

I just did. My point is that the vast majority of coaching products about internet marketing are BS. I'm sure this is an unpopular opinion on this board but I stick by it. You'd be better off ploughing that $1k/month into PPC rather than giving it to some coach who may or may not have made money online themselves.

People buy crappy products because they do zero research... they buy crappy coaches because of the same reason. The only reason there are crappy products is because there are buyers looking for a quick fix. The product creators know they can play you with just words on a sales page.

Finding a good coach is really easy... look at what they do... talk to people they've already coached... and talk with people you know are doing well in the industry about the coach. Successful people in the any market know of a few good coaches because they've been around.

Same with products. Don't buy stuff without looking into a little bit.

You'd be way better off finding a coach who is doing PPC and spending $1k/month on them and $1k/month on PPC. That's the purpose of buying a coach... to show you what to do correctly instead of you wasting months and thousands of dollars figuring out what a 30 minute conversation could of fix already.

    Nice Jonny, nice.

I started just a little before Johnny around 05 or 06 and I can attest to his business success and learning curve as it's very similar to my own.

I agree with 99.9% of the points mentioned.

    48. Network often.

I love people, I love conversation and discussion, I love like minded people but I hate networking.

It doesnt work for everyone and not all business models rely on it or even need it. I can see why and SEO and coach need it though.

I have only ever gone to one IM event and I f***ing hated it, it was full of douche bags blowing hot air up each others ass and a whole bunch of newbies getting scammed live and on stage it was a disgrace!

    37. If you're not selling $500 info products to your clients, then somethings wrong.

Woolworths was built upon a 0.10c per product business, Google was built on 0.1, 2 and 3 cent pay per click ads... Like any business it's volume V margin. There is no right or wrong. Do what works for you.

    36. Get some business cards printed. Meet with clients.

I can see why you do it Johnny, because you do SEO and coaching but some people just dont need to meet with people. If your business requires it then do it if your an online pig shit farmer that has an ecommerce store, then you probably dont need it.

    11. Get a mentor.

    Nah, it's not for everyone.

I have a mentor in another area of my life which is great. I dont think it's necessary though, not in business anyway. There are plenty of people that never had a mentor who run successful online and offline businesses.

I know a guy who runs his own plumbing business, he has 5 vans on the road, office staff, huge turnover, owns a restaurant, was doing good business, he got himself a mentor/coach worth 30K a year that did nothing for him other than waste his time by talking to him about his bullshit theories on business and drinking his coffee..

Some people are great at business but make shitty coaches, some people make great coaches but are shitty at business and therfore are missing that X factor.

There are very few people in my opinion on the face of the planet that are masters in their domain as well as masterful mentors and coaches. Take the same advice Johnny gave you about people on the forum, pay attention.

    18. No one gives a shit about your website.

Not necessarily true. I absolutely love some websites. Thing's that come to mind are comedy and web comics, I love this site too as well as another forum I frequent. Read Cult Branding.

    14. Life is not easy.

Life is life, life is a struggle at times at other times it is so beautiful it moves you down to your very core and makes you weep. Life is life. I love life!

    The ones I absolutely loved:

    32. Stop outsourcing if you don't know what you're doing. Build systems first, then understand the process THEN offload the work.

Perfect, just perfect. If you can understand what it is you are doing you will never have a problem training someone else, hiring someone, taking over when shit hits teh fan etc.

    34. Watch what they DO, not what they say.

I don't buy guru shit, I watch what they do and copy. Its far more effective and free.

    33. There are people on this forum that are fantastic and they will help you enormously, but there are also a lot of fakes and idiots that have NFI what they're doing. Pay attention.

If someone is trying to sell you something asking as many questions as you can before buying. If the answers dont meet your expectations -dont buy, simple as that. Ask other warriors that have already purchased via PM what they honestly thought (this ones saved me lots of money).

Just because they have a high post count and love to read their own words, doesn't mean they know what they are talking about (me included), this works in reverse too. Trust me I know plenty of people that can barely read or write who run very successful businesses.

There are also people that admittedly come here for discussion purposes only and dont do any form of online marketing. Like Johnny said, pay attention.

    31. Go where your audience already is.

Exactly! Marketing is exactly like fishing! I been saying that one for years, I think everyone just thinks I am crazy

    6. Think long term. One of the biggest mistakes I made in this industry was "constantly starting". "Wait, I've got an idea for ...blah blah blah". Forgeddit. If you're constantly telling yourself this - you're a GONER.

Me too. Lol. My crazy ideas have led me to be scammed by Mexicans to the tune of $500, scammed by a lovely Chinese lady to the tune of 3.5K, had me working on a "free Internet" lol (I even had a patent application for that one), had me buying Iraqi Dinar, being embarrassed at a BBQ because friends found explicit pictures of penises on my laptop for my "Grow you X bigger" website, had my adwords account banned... because the website I was linking to turned out to be some scam site I had no idea about, made my garage look like a hackers den when i was getting into crypto currency mining ahhhhh lolllll

Finally from me, I think you forgot the most important one.

Enjoy yourself, have fun, have a cold beer, enjoy your family, after all that's the reason you got into this game.

I don't know John, but I've followed some of his posts and I also agree with most everything he's said, that I've seen, anyway.

I actually started making some money with Adwords back in 2005, but was running an offline business at the same time, so I didn't put as much effort into it as I should have. I also made the mistake of direct linking, AKA "Bum Marketing" and not building a list. Very dumb.

I'm 99% with you on this. I'm not a big fan of networking either. I went to two events back in 2006 and experienced much of the same. The first one was a pitchfest and although the second one was better (System Seminar), it was difficult getting much one on one time to ask specific questions. I did buy the session recordings, but there wasn't anyone to ask questions when I had them. That was drag.

I sell both offline. I'm in a niche where there are high ticket items and smaller repeat order stuff that keeps people coming back. I am building an ecommerce site now, which I should have done a long time ago, but this is definitely not what I want to keep doing. I want a business that runs itself, for the most part, and I want to be the CEO and have the freedom to be "hands off" whenever I want. My goal is to have genuine freedom. If I'm still working in my business full-time I don't have it - period.

Agreed. Some people do business with people that lived halfway around the world and they'd never met face to face. I've worked in the same niche offline with seven different companies (3 of my own) and have some people that I've done business with for 20 years. They know, like and trust me, but I've never met ANY of them in person. Actually, there are quite a few people that prefer doing business that way. They're intimidated by sales people and are more comfortable doing business online or over the phone.

I'd say that "it depends" whether you need a mentor or not. Some things can be learned without having one. Having a proven mentor gives a person confidence that what they're actually doing will work, though. That can be of huge importance to some people, especially when they'll initially be investing time and money in their business and may not see an immediate return on their investment. Others may be doing fairly well on their own, but need someone that knows more than they do in order to get to the next level of earnings.

I have a few that I like, but I'm not really obsessed with any. I could see two sides of this view. People who are "rabid fans" of a topic will often visit sites that continuously offer massive value.

This is one where I've been guilty. Actually, I was making decent money online when I first hired my assistant, but things tapered off. I've been reluctant to let her go because she's very good and very reasonable. I'm going to have her help me build my ecommerce site.

I've gotten to the point where I trust very few people online. Some people have absolutely no morals or conscience. Stealing from people is wrong in the firs place, but knowingly ripping people off that are in need of another source of income is the worst kind of thief. Scum!

Exactly. Thinking long term to me means never entering a market that isn't evergreen (it's been around for a long time and will continue to be around for many more years) and doesn't have a substantial amount of products that can be sold on the backend. Don't think "one sale and done". Think "multiple sales" for many years to loyal customers. THAT is building a business.

While I do agree that there must be time set aside each week for family, I also know that building a full-time business, online or offline, takes an enormous amount of work. Once the momentum is going and money starts to come in regularly you can start outsourcing certain elements and cut back a bit, but in the beginning it's not uncommon to put in 20-80 hours per week, depending on if you're doing it full-time or part time starting out.

Anyway, great post from John and nice overview from you. I agreed with much of what you said so it made sense to just use your post and throw in my "two bits". :-)

LMAO.....fantastic post, thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts & opinions based on 5 years experience.

Guilty, guilty & guilty........well of most of them!

For what it's worth my journey has involved several [far too many] of the issues which John raises & I admit has cost several thousand $$$$ mostly of which has been a complete waste 

The strategy which we are now applying [BTW started 2009] is to build our list by creating awesome products, develop the relationship so they 'know, like & trust' us then they will buy.

As for mentorship, wholeheartedly agree, this will move your business into overdrive & as with most things in life, this will mean parting with $$$$$ but in my opinion this is an investment in your future!

Difficulty is finding the right person, I refer back to the 'know, like & trust' analogy, keep it simple, ask questions, refer to testimonials & if you can speak to them direct, lets face it, we all have the tools to track them down.

So whilst I acknowledge that some warriors will have their own opinions that's fine, we are all entitled to believe in whatever we wish.

    Thanks again John.

Unfortunately Kate it is a harsh lesson that most of us go through, keep with it though, if you persist enough then you will succeed!

I am under no illusion, this is a business which like any other business requires effort, strategy & bl***y hard graft.

So good luck on your journey, every step is a step in the direction of your goal.

Wondering that you haven't mentioned anything about conversions/split-testing/different offers etc. You can actually double if not triple your sites/business income when you try different landingpages, different prices, different products etc.

At first I didn't put much effort in it, but now I'm really getting to know the ins and outs of conversions and customer interest.

The rest is pure gold, tho.

It's actually good to start at the end point and build the process out to reach this end point. If you do not know where you're going, how can you build a map to get there?

It's the same way that you plan a vacation, you start with a destination, and date, and then work backwards to make it happen. Business needs to happen the same way to succeed.

To start at the "start" is like running a race without knowing the distance of the race or where the finish line is located. You can be the fastest runner and still lose the race.

Always start at the end, define the path to get there, and once there, find a new "end point" - copy, paste, repeat.

I enjoyed goindeep's and joe stewart's posts the most. The wise always stand out in the crowd. They're not so easily swayed by sensationalism or a slick snake oil salesman.

Bottom line: It's a big world out there and there are MANY ways to skin a cat. I've made a ton of money and never used a mentor. Not that I'm opposed to it but it's not the only pathway to success. Most of the information you need is free and I'm not exaggerating - especially in today's internet world. But most people don't want to work for it. They want that magic bullet or quick pill so they'll buy into the fact that you absolutely "need" that snake oil salesman's product to succeed. They've just convinced you of it. Most of the time it just doesn't work that way. It starts with your work ethic. I went to one of the best music schools in the country when I was a kid. They gave us the best education you could pay for (and it was expensive!). But only a small number of us succeeded. We were the ones that were there first thing in the morning with our sleeves rolled up and practice 8 hours a day for years. It is the same with business. You can pay for a $5000 mentorship product if you want but whether you realize it or not, you're sitting in the middle of a 10 million dollar mentorship program right here in this forum. It's all for free! Simply figure out who's for real and who is full of shit and the pot of gold is yours! :p

Yep. John mentioned goal setting in his post and that's HUGE. You have to set "realistic" goals and stick with them. I recall burning the midnight oil several times in the past because I hadn't reached my goal that day. Something would come up and I'd get sidetracked, but I'd still make sure the work was finished regardless. I felt like I'd really let myself down or like I was behind the eight ball all week if I didn't stick with the plan. I hated that feeling, so I did whatever it took to get my work done.

This is also a HUGE point. Of all the so called "experts" that I've run across since I started in IM the "guru's", the "pioneers", etc are the ones that were exactly right with what they were teaching. People like Jimmy D. Brown, Terry Dean, Marlon Sanders, Perry Marshall and more. These guys are like the "guru's to the new "guru's".

Examples: Terry Dean taught Jimmy D. Brown, who taught Ryan Deiss. Terry also taught Lee McCyntire, who has taught Kim Roach, among others. I don't know many marketers that haven't read Perry Marshall's "Definitive Guide to Google Adwords". It was a complete game changer for thousands of marketers. Marlon Sanders has been copied more times than most people could count. At one time several years ago, Marlon was running his own visitor analytics to his sites and at that time I recall him boasting that 1 in every existing 300 internet users had visited at least one of his sites! That's staggering!

I look back now in disgust because I didn't know back the who was real, who I could trust, etc and those same people are in business today doing mostly the same thing.

      1. Find a hungry market that's easily reachable.
      2. Set-up a squeeze page.
      3. Send extremely targeted traffic to it.
      4. Send high quality, personality driven follow-up messages to your list on a regular basis.
      5. Sell to them on a regular basis.

That's pretty much the gist of it!

    Enjoy

    This was awesome

However, I dont understand your fixation with the "get a mentor" principle. You repeat it a few times through your list, as if it was the most important element to succeed. I couldnt disagree more in that regard.
