I GIVE UP! No more free hosting / domains!

Personally, I use GoDaddy to buy domain names. I have hosting at both GoDaddy and Hostgator.

Couldn't tell the difference between GoDaddy and Hostgator web hosting though...

A Small Orange is my personal favourite for hosting, sure they are slightly more costly but they do provide better quality hosting in my opinion.

As for domain names, you can't do much better than Namecheap.

Most of the people insists that Godaddy's hosting service's customer service is not very good and you will see tons of bad reviews about Godaddy hosting.

I did not use Godaddy hosting personally, so those are not my comments. I was talking about reviews.

I use GoDaddy - however in saying this due to not using CPanel it can be rather a pain (due to not being a tech person) to update stuff etc. - even for my website designer. Another thing with GoDaddy is email accounts and add ons - be careful - do all your sums first - because one ends up paying extra with GoDaddy (because they claim x number of magabites (or whatever it's called) and expect you to split this over 10 email addresses - which can mean you can't receive all your emails if you reach the 1/10th limit for one of your email addresses. I had to purchase annually basically unlimited as such in order to be able to send and receive emails for my 2 main business email addresses). I will say GoDaddy support staff are pretty good in the main and as they now have an Aussie presence I can ring an Aussie number to access their tech support if required.

What I learnt the hard way was if I have more than one popular site, have a separate hosting package for each individual website that gets heaps of traffic (you can still have a number of websites under 1 hosting package - however if you start finding 2 or more of your websites really starts generating a large amounts of traffic split them off into their own webhosting package is my suggestion)

I've used Just Host .com.au in the past however beware if you have a number of websites on the one hosting account, and 1 of those sites gets a fair amount of traffic i.e. 500 visitors a day would do it - they'll immediately close your account (and not bother to inform you because the email accounts is combined with the hosting account and because they've shut down your account, you actually can't receive the email advising you of what they have done!!!) which means you can lose your websites until you find another provider..

I did use a dedicated server hosting package after the Just Host experience, however found not only was this becoming way too expensive, it kept wanting to shut down individual sites or such like if I recall; so I ended up with GoDaddy and having separate hosting packages for my main websites to beat being shut down as I experienced with Just Host.

I've checked Hostagator and they tend to look okay, however I decided for myself not to use.

Another webhosting provider is hostzilla .com and from what I understand from other IM marketers over the years is able to handle heaps of traffic to your website. Have been thinking of shifting all my websites to Hostzilla - but as yet to do this. My research a wee while ago now seemed to ascertain that the hosting fees was quite affordable however had to pay at least 6 months in advance rather than have a monthly fee option. Hence I haven't transferred or my websites just quite yet.

There are many other webhosting providers. It's a matter of doing your research; determining your budget based on your needs both current and potentially in the future and then selecting the webhosting provider based on services provided and fee structure and the support they provide etc. and other aspects that you feel is required and have researched then making an informed decision.

Everyone's advice on this question is subjective and formed on the basis of their own experiences and what they've read in the Warrior Forum, and/or elsewhere. It's nearly all opinion.

Here's my opinion ...

2. Never use GoDaddy or 1and1 (your own research, if you do enough of it here and/or in other forums, will demonstrate why, but here's a thread to start on): http://www.warriorforum.com/main-int...e-godaddy.html . In my opinion, without writing a book about it, GoDaddy is a company with a pretty nasty reputation here (and elsewhere), and has caused many Warriors a wide range of often unpredictable problems (some of them very serious).

3. Hostgator is well and widely and happily used by huge numbers of Warriors (including myself). Don't be put off hosting there just by posts from members who are advertising "Hostgator alternatives" and/or "Hostgator problems" in their signature-files in order to promote their own hosting services - it seems to me that that does happen, in every "hosting" thread here which lasts long enough.

4. I recommend Namecheap as a registrar. I've used many (including GoDaddy!). I've now moved all my domain-registrations to Namecheap and I don't buy elsewhere.

5. If I wanted a professional, reliable, cheap host for one site, I would try Hostica: they charge $1 per month for one site and have a good reputation overall. If I wanted a professional, reliable, well-established free one, I would probably use Byethost.

6. For myself, I would always use a very long-established, mainstream, orthodox, hosting company owned by a big well-known company, never a smaller, newer one.

7. I advise you not to make a quick decision to host anywhere on the basis of a discount, or coupon, but to think it through carefully and make a well-informed decision.

I have Fatcow and like it. It has cPanel. I like Fatcow. try them.

Arvixe provides hosting and free domain for life for as low as $4 per month. I like them.

If you had used Cpanel before GD "nightmare hosting" you'd know.

If you don't have a Paypal, how about credit card?

A web hosting with $10 per month + domain name $10 per year are cheap for starting an online business... This is highly recommended!

Hostgator for Hosting and Namecheap for domain

You are definitely making a good move. To register your domain I recommend you NameCheap. For $10.69 per year for a .com domain you also get a free whois cover, which is not free with GoDaddy.

You don't have the money in Paypal, I suggest buying a domain name with Payza account, it's like Paypal. So go to Namesilo and find your domain name.
For hosting, you need credit card, I suggest Hostgator for their great service.

You did the right decision, use godaddy and hostgator and you will be on ther igth track

All my domains are registered through GoDaddy, and hosting is a combination of GoDaddy, Hostgator and Bluehost.

You probably need to be asking yourself what you're trying to achieve, as just having one domain name and hosting with a few affiliate ads and some content isn't really going to earn you a lot of money.

You really want to be looking at A) either providing a service, or B) creating your own product in a niche you are an expert in or at least familiar with. You can do the research, interview people, collate information and create an ebook or video series and sell it for a small profit to start getting customers, creating relationships, getting cash flowing and start to build your list.

I have used Namecheap for some time and their customer service has been brilliant -
I even acquired a dedicated server from them and never had any issues.

Everyone will have their own preference, its just a case of you doing your research and making a decision.

I haven't tried any others but I'm very pleased with 1and1 I have been with them for over 6 years

My favorites are: NameCheap for Domain and bigrock for hosting. I hate HostGator and GoDaddy for various issues. I am really satisfied with the prompt responses and after-sales-services from NameCheap and bigrock.

I'm glad you've seen the light! Free hosting and domains just aren't worth it. I use GoDaddy for my domain and hosting and I've never had any problems.

GoDaddy is great for domain name registration. As for hosting, well Wordpress on their Windows hosting plans was a nightmare. But hats off to them for some very fast ASP.NET hosting (great if you're into custom building sites).

If you have tight budget I recommend you use hawkhost. They have small package to choose. The price may be about $3-$4 per month.

There is nothing better than paying for your hosting as this will give you more options but, do not forget that some free blogs such as blogger are a great way of being found quickly by the search engines. Esepecially Google. You can use these to point to your site. Add a few posts in such a way that each post warms your visitor into your way of thinking and then after a few posts offer your carefully crafted link. A few more posts and again add a link. Rinse and repeat quickly and regularly with clear concise and actionable quality content.

I still use GoDaddy for domains and SSL, but that's it - wasn't impressed with their hosting service at all.

I actually use Microsoft Azure for just about everything now. Even basic Wordpress sites. They're higher priced than most of the other solutions out there, but I find the scalability to be worth it. The available resources are limitless, and you can also set up geo-redundancy and scale as you need to.

Obama should have hosted healthcare.gov there.

So that's just my 2 cents... that, and maybe Amazon EC2, are the only hosts I can safely say I will never outgrow.

GoDaddy does not have cPanel or even Plesk. They have some in house system that I find clunky. HostGator was having some rough times after they where sold, but they are getting better and I find that they are once again becoming a viable brand.

I got the I page promo. Well, it is only $1 per month now. Look for similar specials in your area. Host gator is expensive. Currently, I am paying $300 per year. This is for their aluminum plan, and I need to upgrade to bronze soon. Sadly, HG got bought up. They are having some server issues. I do not rec.

I am using Namecheap for both hosting and domain and very happy with that. Excellent support , very reasonable and 100% reliable. Go for it .

Three things that I look for when testing out a host are C-Panel; Windows hosting and script installer. That way I can install Wordpress blogs with the click of a button rather than uploading the files for installation.

The time that can be lost trying to navigate or adapt free hosting services to meet your needs, is hardly worth saving the cost of paying a host provider... provided you have a few dollars a month to invest in a reliable host.

Is Cost Really a Consideration?
Many of the hosting options listed by others in this thread are $10 a month or less (no need to pay any more than that). I'm not trying to disparage anyone who has to budget, to within $5 per month, but given that the cost of entry is so low, would you really want to gamble the future of your blogs or websites to a decision you made to save $4 or $5 a month?

What I'm saying is; I chuckle when I read of people chasing down coupons and offers from new host sites, or making the decision to sign up with a host that has known issues, simply because they will "overall" save $3 or $4 or $5 per month.

My advice: Ignoring the price, or any discount codes you may have been enticed with, simply do your homework and choose a Host and a Registrar that comes with good references and reviews. Use known and reputable companies and pay the extra $3 or $4 per month, you won't be sorry. If you chase a coupon code to an unknown, or unreliable host, you just might be.

My Hosting History
I use Hostgator and NameCheap... My hostgator plan is just under $10 per month. My domains which are registered through Namecheap, are paid annually(as are all). I believe each .com is currently around $12 a year to register.

My first Host and Registrar was godaddy. I didn't realize how much they were abusing me until after I moved everything to the Hostgator/Namecheap combination; A decision that was made three years ago because of information I learned here at the Warrior Forum.

Registering a domain and finding a reliable host is such an inexpensive endeavor relative to many other online expenses. As an example: A subscription to A-Weber (the e-mail marketing software company) is 19.95 every month. That's $240 a year, FYI ... you can register and host 10 domains using the Hostgator/NameCheap for an entire year with that small budget.

I use Hostgator, Fatcow for hosting and use GoDaddy and NameCheap as my registrars. You can survive all four. Look for coupons and deep discounts!

Hostgator is the only way to go. I host loads of sites for myself and clients with them. Their up time is almost 100% and I know what you mean, I've tried others (even paid hosts) and have run into nothing but frustration. Nothing like being in the middle of a huge post and when you hit the update button you get the service not available at this time caption! No more, I say! No more!

I tried dozen of hosting company, i mean dedicated server and vps, i am sorry to tell that many paid hosting provider are still crap.

lovingdomains.com and lovinghosting.com have been friendly to me in the last 5 years.

I can only recomend gogohomepage as a hosting provider, they use a control panel called hepsia which i find to be the best and most easy to use, they also have live chat support so in case i need help it will only take min to solve the problem.

I use hosting 24. so far it's been pretty good. they answer questions quickly and have a lot of resources. plus it's a little bit cheaper then other hosting sites.

i personally use webs.com, its free and quite easy to learn to use, hope this helps

When you're first starting out a ton of hosting companies seem fine, over about the last 7 years of going through hosts I've found you learn by trial and error what you need to watch out for, here are the factors that I found by not having them on various hosting providers:

1. 24/7 telephone support - anyone who doesn't have this immediately fails for me, I don't care if they have some live messaging help agent or 24/7 email support, when I'm working late at night or traveling and have a problem I want to be able to pick up a phone and get an answer or get something solved and do it now, not have to try to go back and forth in emails explaining what I want and getting a solution that's way too frustrating to me (Hostgator was a pain in the ass in this respect to me not being able to do everything over the phone)

2. Supports multiple domains - places like Yahoo support 1 domain per hosting account, later you won't want this

3. Speed - you want a fast host

4. Reliability - you want a reliable host

5. Cronjobs - not something you'll consider early on but a lot of hosts don't support Cronjobs on their shared hosting but for certain functionality you need it, just make sure they have it in advance in case you do need it


Frankly, if they've got those things the rest pretty much take care of themselves, pricing is fairly comparable for all of them, don't worry about saving $2/mo. that's not your biggest concern, just a few hours of website downtime blew your whole 10 years of savings.

Based on all the above I always recommend InMotion Hosting to people, having tried and compared most of the major ones: Godaddy, Hostgator, Webhostingpad, Green Geeks, 1to1, Bluehost, Dreamhost, Domain.com, Yahoo, Host Papa, and a handful of others. Don't buy domains through Inmotion, it's a rip off, but for people getting started hosting you can't go wrong.

yes I trust godaddy for domains and HostGator though hostgator costs around 10 buck a month for baby plan but its good if you have many sites, but there is another good hosting cirtex that I believe have good support and good responsive uptime.

Well, you do not have to blame free domains at all. I, for example, register a free subdomain at freedns.afraid.org
There you can choose between thousands of subdomains. There is basically a domain for every niche you have. If the project goes all well, you can still change to a Topleveldomain.

For hosting I would suggest any shared hosting program allowing to add unlimited or a high amount of Add-on domains (arvixe, hostwinds, hostgator).

I'm a huge advocate of hostmonster. I host all my websites there. Support is 24-7, US Based (super cool, and not the norm) they offer chat support as well, so my VA can contact them on behalf of me.

One of my clients who hosts with them and a short while after they transferred someone hacked their website (unrelated issue). Support literally sat on the phone with me and repaired the website files for me. They go above and beyond.

Although there are literally zillions of hosting companies, it will always come down to maybe two or three which are tried and proven by many, like for shared hosting where many recommend Hostgator or Hostmonster etc. The same is true when at some point people may want to switch to a VPS or dedi, there is also only a handful of good, reliable companies (Wiredtree, Futurehost, Knownhost etc.) within a sea of hosting companies.

BUT...there are other criteria because what worjs for some person may not be optimal for you. I am stunned that no-one really mentioned this.

For me, the hosting location is very important. If I were to make a site for the market in the UK I'd rather choose a UK based hosting company. If I do a lot of maintenance work on websites (installing Wordpress etc.) I would not necessarily choose a hosting company on the West coast but on the East coast since I am located in Europe so it's a little faster with uploads and maintenance.

I would recommend purely hosting. They are a great company with great benefits to offer as a affiliate. They offer up to $110 per commission, there customer service Is great also I really enjoy dealing with them.

My experience with 1&1has been so abysmalthat I wouldn't consider doing business with them ever again - it has just been with domains but it has been so bad that I certainly wouldn't trust them with hosting either

How about them holding the domains hostage, even though I gave up and let them expire? (and some of these I guarantee you are of no commercial value and so no reason to keep them hostage - 1&1 keeps renewing them themselves). If I login they want a $200 fee permission line with paypal before doing anything else - I could go on -what a nightmare they are.

Hostgator has improved after some rough patches

Namecheap is good for buying domains, they give you 1 year free whoisguard. Hostgator is decent, there was 1 time when all of my blogs were down for a few hours which caused me to lose out on some sales.

It's been a sad reality for a long time that free hosting sites are no longer a viable option. You have to be careful how much you pay though since many paid services are expensive and provide features you don't really need for a simple website - like readymade social site scripts when you just want to put up a few informational pages about your service. So i think the answer depends on the type of website you want to set up. Personally, I had a good experience with both reseller and VPS plans in the past, but I'm currently looking for cheaper options.

As far as I know, free hosting is not reliable. Paid hosting instead seems more serious. If you can take the risk of losing you sites, you can go on with free hosting, but I think it is not worthy.

For those interested, I used Namecheap to buy the domain name, HostGator to host it, WordPress to build it, and Genesis as the paint job. If you would like a detailed list about the plugins, etc, that I use, just PM me and I'm happy to tell you.

Hi, bluehost and hostgator are both good but if you compared them deeper, you will find a cheaper hosting with the same services- justhost. it is the same as bluehost , even the staff are the same.

If you buy expired domains (what? you don't! really?) you're almost locked into Godaddy. The same has to be said for selling domains. Most buyers (except at the super premium end) expect Godaddy transfer. Learn to live with their upsells. It's the price you have to pay.

Google/Blogger free hosting is good for certain websites. If your website falls into that class, don't hesitate. Don't give me that stuff that Blogger eats your sites without a trace. If you have a legit site that doesn't try to stretch the rules, you're safe.
