Selecting a niche

Just watched a good video on the Clickbank website about selecting a niche. The people at Clickbank advise you not only to select a niche, but target a sub-niche within that topic in order to avoid overly competitive marketplaces and to give you the ability to be an expert within that sub-niche.

They use the following example:

Health & Fitness ---> Dieting ---> Weight Loss For Busy Moms

Just wanted to point this out for people that might be dabbling with ideas about choosing a niche. Drill down for profitability and the ability to brand yourself as an expert in a less competitive niche.

    And if I may add; consider branching out into other niches later. I started with one and stayed in it too long, limiting my profit potential. As soon as I started targeted several niches, we started soaring.

    I completely agree, it's very important to work on the sub niches, that's where you start to grow up quickly.

    That idea is pretty accurate. Primary niches have already been invaded by many people and others are still too busy trying to keep up. Branching out from the primary niches is a great idea, too. Never border your content within the corners of just one, two or even three niches or sub-niches. Aim for more but aim for balance, as well.

      Very sound advice and applies to all types of affiliate marketing and not just clickbank.

      For example, this is the kind of sub-niche I try and promote as an Amazon affiliate:

      Sports & Outdoors › Cycling › Bike Racks & Bags › Handlebar Bags

    To add to this, I would suggest that after you pick a sub-niche and a product, you spend as much time as needed to figure out how to reach your prospect, in order for him to buy the product you're promoting.

    Every group of people have their own doubts and fears, which you have to address if you want them to trust you and become buyers.

    Great advice. I also think it helps to choose a niche that you really like. You're going to spend a lot of time thinking about it, researching it, writing about it, etc. If you hate the niche, it will make life pretty miserable.

      I couldn't agree more. If you want to increase your productivity, you should definitely find a niche that is of your interest. You would not want to be stuck with a topic that you do not like and end up using up all the time that you have researching about it.

    I don't know how many manage to create content and work hour after hour on niches they have no interest in.

    For me, and I've tried it many times chasing what I thought would be profitable niches, it's not possible.

    I cannot find the motivation and drive to continue working on projects I have no interest or passion in.

    When it's something I genuinely like I can get stuck in much easier. Today I wrote 6,500 words on a topic I'm interested in before lunch time.

      Thanks For the information about choosing subniches and drilling down from there, would it also be an idea to use word search when looking for subniches?
      as I am fairly new to IM and am still learning I would be greatful for comments.
