obviously whether it gets to the inbox has alot of other determining factors but does anyone have any experience using hostgator VPS to send emails to their list.

I currently use mandrill and other smtp servers, but I specifically want to know about sending emails directly from a provider like hostgator or any other hosting company.

thanks

Keep in mind that most hosting companies don't allow email marketing on their servers/VPS. Some go on to enforce that policy by blocking smtp ports and only enabling them on a case by case basis, usually with an upfront refundable fee.

The risk of said server/vps being used for (un)intentional spam is far too great and networks are usually not very enthusiastic about getting their IPs listed in the various SBLs. I'm not sure about hostgator but their terms might explicitly state they don't allow email marketing, so you could probably go through those before you decide on them. Basically, any company you go for should have it forbidden in their terms if they prohibit it on their network so that's one way you can find out without having to go back and forth with them on email.
