Who is the best worker you've ever hired?

Have you ever hired a person (or company) who did an outstanding job? If so, who were they and what did they do for you?

    There have been several. My ideal employee first and foremost has a high rate of productivity. Second, they are professional and reliable. Usually, with that mix you can't go wrong. There will always be little things along the way to work out just like any relationship but when you have an employee with a professional attitude, is consistently reliable and puts out a lot of work, you've got a winner! At that point, make sure you treat them well. Pay them a decent salary and give them all the perks you can afford to give.

  • For me, an ideal employee is the one that doesn't clutter my workload with constant (and often unnecessary) questions. I value VERY MUCH when I can dump an entire task/responsibility onto a member of my team, knowing that he/she will find his way around to get it done without bugging me with daily questions.

      I prefer the opposite. I find that it's fairly rare for a new hire to have no questions. I think it would be unfair of me to judge them for that. If someone is asking me questions related to the task it might cause me to think of something I may have overlooked, and it shows initiative on their part.

        I believe so, too. I like it better when they ask me questions about my instructions and I feel a bit bothered when I think that they are already making the content without even asking a single question from me. It gives me the assurance that they are really getting a clear understanding of my instructions.

      Honestly that sounds like a recipe for disaster.

      I'd much prefer that someone communicates with me so that when the finished product arrives I don't have to do a massive reboot.

      People aren't psychics, and a misinterpretation can easily lead to a big misunderstanding even with the smartest workers.

        I agree. I would MUCH rather have someone ask me questions about what I need done so that they can do it right the first time.

        If they are asking extremely dumb questions, well then, that is another matter, but that still serves to show me that person needs to be replaced with someone who at least can ask smarter questions.

          Exactly. If they do not communicate with you or ask you further about the directions that you have given, you will automatically assume that they already know what to do. However, I have encountered ones who ended up being the opposite. I wasted a lot time requesting for revisions from the company.

    I hire myself to do a lot of writing and proofreading and I never fail. Enough said.
    And yes, as a self-employed person, I can "hire" myself.

    I used to do most of the writing for my website content, too. However, I came across an excellent company recently and I found having transactions with them to be very hassle-free. I ordered articles from them and their rates were competitive. They were able to follow all my instructions and their output matched my expectations – certainly helped me save time and effort.

    I had a big ebook writing project with a short deadline. It was in a niche I knew nothing about, so half my time would be spent doing research.

    A conversation with family led me to a family friend who happened to blog about this niche.

    I brought her on to help outline the ebooks for me.

    I saw the first outline and thought - hell, she'll do better at this than me.

    She ended up writing about half of the ebooks.

    She was a great writer, and helped me meet a tight deadline.

    I once had a deadline to complete a really sophisticated programing task but ended up stuck for days. There was a really subtle bug that just wouldn't get fixed.

    I hired a great programer that came in and in under an hour found the cause of the problem and fixed it!

    How amazing was that!
    I was over the moon!

    And I met the deadline.

    You really should know how to select the best agencies to do the job for you. Not all of them can be flexible, while others have fields of specialization. Also, you always need to consider the size of the project or the work load that you will be putting on their shoulders.
