New site launch - Marketing Advice

Good morning Warriors,

My wife runs an online baby gift company, unfortunately, due to some of the previous link building tactics used on her website (BHF and WF), it's dropped massively from Google.

We are rebranding (as we'd planned to anyway) and have had a domain parked for 2 years, we'd like to go as white hat as possible, we have a good following on Facebook (nearly 5k) that interact very well with new posts etc.

Can anyone out there please give us any advice on what to do, and what to avoid.

Thanks in advance

Z

what to do, and what to avoid.
What you can do, is do EVERYTHING white hat, and avoid EVERYTHING blackhat. It always comes back to bite you in the ass. People that use blackhat, usally do it to make a fast buck, never a long term solution.

Yes, I've noticed that, which is why we'd like to do everything by the book!

    Thanks

Can anyone suggest the best forms of white hat link building?

I'm thinking social media is key, maybe blog owners in the niche, along with the usual dmoz (attempt) yahoo, etc?

Spend as much time as possible on the social sites and build up a bigger following on those sites.

You should create backlinks yourself and make them look as natural as possible. You may be able to recover your Google positions over time but only if you avoid everything dodgy.

There are no shortcuts if you want to succeed.

I agree. Since you are starting from scratch again (I suppose), do not rush. Take things step by step, just like how you did it before. Focus on promoting on Facebook because that is where you will get the amount of people that you need. Make regular updates and never do anything boring.

Thanks, I'm going to use a different domain, start a fresh as I want to ensure nothing black hat is used.

We have a good following on most social networks and post 2 or 3 times a day, so will concentrate on those and see how we fair.

    Thanks again

For the online store, make sure the gifts are described well and have various keywords in them. Don't simply put up the manufacturer's description. Instead, make the description persuasive to the potential buyer. You are trying to close a sale here.

You should then build white hat backlinks targeted at various keywords to the product descriptions.

Also, make sure you do not have duplicate content on your on-page elements. Ecommerce sites tend to have the same Title, alt and descriptions. Make yours unique.
