Business Coaching - Have you done it?

Looking for people who have hired a business/career coach to grow their businesses. I am NOT talking about somebody who is going to teach you specific methods of making money (how to blog, how to use Adsense, etc) but somebody who works more on strategy to help you expand on what you're already doing.

Think "life coaching" but for business owners.

Anybody? If so, I'd love to hear your experiences...

I can't speak directly to this as I am just a college student, but what I can tell you is that at a number of the career fairs I attend at my college, lots of small businesses are trying to hire entrepreneurship majors.

Not because they need an idea or something, but they like the broad amount of expertise someone with this degree brings to the table.

    Cheers,
    Ben

    Yes. Robert Kiyasaki's.

Sometimes we're too close to the painting to see the whole picture. It's not a cheap exercise.. but I am happy I did it. It provided direction and helped me to reach some goals. Would I do it again? Probably.

I would also consider Brad Sugars (franchised) - although I haven't had any personal experience.

    David,
I've been on both sides of the coin. In the past, I did have a celebrity business coach that charges $10,000+ per month (totally worth it too!) and once I reached a certain success level, I started coaching and helping others myself.

For anyone considering a coach, there are a few key things to consider:

Be careful who you choose (obviously). There are so many "fake" successful people online trying to sell all kinds of services and they have never made a dime themselves so you've got to be careful.

Best thing to do is to purchase some of their products first and see if they walk their talk. Also, talk to them on the phone to see if you connect and if it just feels right. Ask them some good questions and see if they can answer you right then, without looking something up on Google.

Be VERY careful with anyone who doesn't charge very much for their services. Any good coach is going to charge a premium for their time and if someone is selling cheap coaching, it's a sure sign they are one of the "fakers" that you want to stay away from.

There are always conferences and seminars that offer such kind of coaching. I think, attending such can be a good investment if you are really serious about all of these. But one simple advice I have for you is to be an expert in decision-making and in trusting the right kind of people.
