Paypal Subscription payment question

INTERNET MARKETING

If I have a subscription payment button on my website from paypal, must customers have a paypal account or can they just enter their credit card details to pay the monthly subscription?

I would have thought they would need to have a Paypal account with a credit card verified on it.

If you have a Paypal subscription button and click it then it takes you to the Paypal payment page doesn't it, so I'm sure they would need to have a Paypal account.

If they don't have an account they must join in order to proceed with payment.

  I have dealt with this issue in the past and really the only option is to either
  
  1. make them sign up for a paypal account and attach a bank account/credit card
  
  2. use a merchant account/paypal virtual terminal.
  
  Simply put, if you are wanting to automatically take money from people each month, and they dont have verified paypal accounts, you will need a merchant account of some sorts.
