How To Get Rid of Spam on Directory Submissions?

Spam is one of the biggest problems on the Internet. Low quality links to your site can damage it and negatively affect your rankings.

I own a Link Directory and get more than 200 spam submission per day.
It is very difficult to look and approve/reject each link manually but i want to keep my directory clean.

Please advise me what do I need to stop SPAM on directory submissions.

Thanks

    Some sort of automation?

Log submission country then block countries that send you junk?

There are plenty of ways of dealing with this.

There is a long list to avoid, you can block all of them to keep your site safe.
Beware! google penalizes low quality spammy links.

Forgot to mention the best solution - charge for submission. There, your spam problem is solved.

already did it, but still getting submissions without any payment. not in huge amount but it is not a fulproof plan.
mostly spam links from India but can't block the specific region because this is a big market.
any other advise would be apprecible.

  • Is it the link in your signature...or are you running phpld? Even if you require paid listings....the way submit works is the submissions sends first then it kicks to PayPal so you still get the spam. What I do let them buildup and then run an SQL query to remove the pending links on a regular basis. I always backup before I do this of course but it has always worked well. Shoot me a pm and I'll give you SQL query to use in phpmyadmin if you do indeed use phpld.

If you are running phpLD, check in at the forums. There are a number of different solutions. One method for example is running a scheduled task that removes all non-paid submissions once/day or once/hour. There are many other methods too.

It is okay to contact me! I have been developing software since 1999, creating many popular products like phpLD.
