Best platform for online course?

I'm getting ready to develop an online course for my niche. I want to have some text with a mixture of videos. Any advice on the best way to do this? I know there are some sites like Udemy out there, but I prefer to have more control over my own content than that.

Thanks in advance for your opinions and advice!

I think there's a couple other smaller ones then udemy but not sure where exactly.

Udemy just changed their payout structure too so be weary of that.

Yes - I am leery of letting another entity control how much I can make on a product that I developed. Thank you!

I haven't used these, but here are a few wp courseware themes:
    WP Courseware

    WordPress LMS Plugin by LearnDash®

Why not build a membership site. You can follow the foot steps of many marketers like Jimmy D. Brown whom started a vault site, an FTM membership site using autoresponders.

There are several self hosted ways to deliver content and video's that maybe cheaper than 3rd party sites.

    Hope this helps

    Hi Jennifer,

I agree completely - having complete control on your content as well as your overall business is vital in the long run. Is your website based on wordpress or are you still considering options?

Of course I am biased towards Moodle (some say it is world's most trusted LMS out there).

If you share your specific requirements and exactly what it is that you are looking for to manage your users/students - I may be able to help.

    Cheers and all the best!

I would also choose a membership site to deliver your content. It's the best way. Just go with a theme like optimize press which makes it easy to set up.

Membership site would be my choice - build it with something like WordPress and S2Member or Joomla with the AEC plugin.

I've also heard good things about an open-source software package called Moodle - Moodle - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (not an affiliate link). I haven't used it myself (yet) but it looks an interesting way to combine video and text into learning modules.

Oh yes! Moodle is most definitely worth a try!

ScholarLMS = Moodle on steriods :-)

        Jenifer,

Your basic requirements seem to be that you want to deliver text and video to a controlled (private) audience.

For that, a subscription web site is a great platform. You could use either a hosted solution or a platform on your own hosting depending upon your budget, your technical expertise, security wanted, etc.

Your best paid solution will end up being the one that have the features you desire, great stability, and is user friendly.

There are lots of threads here at the WF detailing opinions about which subscription site platform is best.

I have a license to Membergate which is my choice because it has everything built-in - no additional plugins are needed for anything. It has multiple levels of membership, a shopping cart, digital delivery, blog, forum, affiliate program, on-site ads, photo gallery, and lots more. There are cheaper alternatives that will work, but if you want something that does everything - all in one - this is it.

        Good luck to you,

        Steve
