I am not sure if this would help answer your question. I can’t give you an absolute number, but I think, the number of members is not the main thing that will matter (but yes, it still will). It is how active and responsive they will be and how you will be able to sell your products and services to them.

Why are you only focused on trying to get sales and make money?

Why aren't you more concerned with trying to offer VALUE and help improve other people's lives?

Stop worrying about trying to make money and start worrying about how you plan to deliver VALUE that people will pay you for.

There are many variables to determining how many members you need to get a sale.

        Source of Traffic
        Targeted Leads
        Timing
        Your Messaging
        Your Offer, etc

That being stated, here are some "working" numbers for you for cold traffic.

A decent sales letter will pull in any where from 0.5% to 3%...somewhere in the middle is normal.

Keep in mind, I'm referring to GI (general interest) traffic so you would have to be selling something in the broad make money, weight loss and other GI categories.

        But here's the kicker...

Before you can even ask the question about getting the sell, you have to set up your sales funnel so it converts on the front end and and serve the dual purpose of preselling your back-end offerings...where your profits will be made. This is the foundation that has to be set before you start driving massive traffic to your sales funnel to get paid members.

Nice point. Well, if you want a lot of members to make sales, you will really get that by offering an excellent product or service to them. It is kind of the opposite of what you are trying to achieve. You need to show them what they can get from you before you can have them and make sales.

I see no one commented on the actual price you're charging. If you're charging $10 it's one thing, but if you're charging $97 for example, then obviously the conversions will be lower.

So you'll need to do some tests, kind of like testing the conversions for 2 different squeeze pages..

Actually it all comes down to testing, you are never really done with the testing portion of your business. You can test different sales letters, different graphics only, different titles only, different price points, different funnel options and so on.

The answer depends on how you recruit your member base and where you get your traffic from.

    Hi there!

That would really depend upon the quality of your leads. If you have a quality leads, then it wouldn't take you so long to make your first sale. On the other hand, if you have a poor quality list of leads, then it would be difficult on your part to push through your first sale.

That is the very reason why knowing where your leads are coming from is also very important as it concludes the quality of your lead list.

I agree with what was posted above. if your concern is always about you and the money you make, you won't make much money. Your question at the moment should be how can I deliver the most possible value to my members. The sales will come naturally after that. The more people you help and the better you help them, the more you will get back in return.

It really depends on the products or services that you plan to offer them. You need to consider three aspects: the value of what you offer, your target market and how you promote what you offer. However, if you were to ask me, the value will still be the one to primarily control the entire thing.
