How to make money through eBooks? Strategies and tactics needed!

Hi,

I would like to start creating my own ebooks and promote to my list but before I do that, I would like to hear some marketing tactics and strategies from you guys before creating it.

Some marketing tactics I have read is about giving a free ebook which contains a link in that links it to your paid ebook site. The other one I have heard recently is about giving a free report on the selected topic to the niche forum master and let him receive 100% commission when he makes an affiliate sale and then I will be collecting email addresses and will be promoting a better ebook about that niche to that list and this time, I keep all the commissions.

First, do you know if your list will be interested in your topic? Even though it is free, it still has to have GREAT value. If you don't know what your list wants, your free offer will flop.

I think the easiest way to drive traffic, if you don't have a marketing budget, is to start building relationships with JV and affiliate partners. Make them a great offer and always be on the lookout for what you can do for them.

They owe you nothing so as long as they know you are truly there to help them and give them a great offer, you will find some people. I would be willing to give up 75% to 100% just to build a list to market to later.

You mention a list and then you seem to mention marketing through someone else's forum?

Best approach is to come up with the biggest issue your market is having, create some up-front content (report, video, email series) that helps them begin down the path toward realizing their desired outcome with an offer to get a more complete, more assisted, or enhanced method in your paid product.

Write an article about the Ebook, try and get backlinks to it also try and SEO optimize it so that way it will start getting traffic. Maybe some Banner ads to get it started but always put a "Like and Share" out there so you can use that as testimonials.

    Here's one piece of advice.

I had alot of success doing this.

Find a pre-fabricated group of hungry buyers BEFORE launching it.

Many create eBooks, then go nowhere with them.

Also....don't be afraid to get specific. Yes, you inherently limit your market buy doing this. When you try to be everything to everyone, you end up being nothing.

I was able to do several thousand dollars in 2 days just by doing these things.

If you are starting your career as an ebook writer, you better choose the right niche to tackle. You might also consider partnering with affiliate marketers. You can surely make a great deal with them. They would be getting something from you while you are also getting benefits from them.

If you have a list, what is the list interested in… what niche? Meaning, if the list is interested in “Making Money” then obviously you must need to create an ebook on “Making Money”. If you have a list already there is no need for affiliates or even an SEO strategy at this point.

One way to see what your list is interested in is to setup a survey through surveymonkey.com (its free!) Send out an autoresponder message saying that you are very interested in helping/solving frustrations that the list may currently be going through. You may list several frustrations you know of that the niche/industry already has and write them in the message which will provoke interest immediately. You basically say you have a few techniques that can solve those issues/frustrations that you mentioned.

Anyway, Once you write the autoresponder message, give them the link to your survey.
In the survey you create, ask them to select which frustrations they can’t overcome and also leave them an area to write their own frustrations. Even a spot to have them vent, a note area..

And BAM! You now know what your list wants… Time for research and writing!! After you sell your book to them, you could always monetize the list that didn’t buy your book (B list) by sending them affiliate offers that fit with the needs of your list. Hope that helps you, much luck and success! - Pete

    Ethan,

The BEST marketing tactics and advice I would give you on this are:

    1. Do the opposite of what 99% of other authors do. Why? Because most authors make very little money selling their books because they aren't doing it right.

    2. Create what I like to call an "author brand". Emulate someone like Amanda Hocking, who has built an amazing following, made millions of dollars, and created a true author brand for herself and that was with Fiction...it's much easier when it's Non Fiction.

It’s hard to make money with an ebook because you have to be trusted if you want to sell your work. I advise you to write a few ebooks for Kindle because Amazon helps you with the promotion. This was what I recently decided to do. I just published my first Kindle ebook especially with the intention to drive traffic from Amazon to my websites.

I’m selling PDF ebooks at my website too, but it’s hard to get traffic. With Kindle ebooks you make money by selling your ebooks to Amazon’s readers, and you send these readers to your websites. I always try to find solutions that help me make money and drive traffic to my websites.

I’m basically selling my ebooks thanks to word of mouth because I also offer a service related to the ebooks’ content. Whoever pays me for my service usually buys my ebooks, or whoever buys my ebooks usually trusts my service. You have to do many things to get traffic, be trusted, and convert your visitors into customers. There is fierce competition in all fields.

This is why I told you to begin with Kindle ebooks because you are helped with the promotion and your ebooks are in a marketplace with many buyers. However, you have to write many Kindle ebooks if you want to be a successful writer, and there are many excellent authors there.

And the ebooks’ prices are low. You have to sell high quality without being well-paid, but the volume is what matters in this case. You have the chance to make many sales.

That's one of the marketing tactic used by one of the affiliate pros that I have heard during a LIVE seminar in Singapore.

I recommend announcing your ebook at kindleboards.com in the Book Bazaar section.
Anymore announcing sites that you can recommend?

Write an article about the Ebook, try and get backlinks to it also try and SEO optimize it so that way it will start getting traffic. Maybe some Banner ads to get it started but always put a "Like and Share" out there so you can use that as testimonials.
If I am not wrong, eBooks have a short lifespan and needs to be sold and get back my expenses like paid traffic, etc., when you launch the product.

Could you elaborate on these exact methods?

I am currently constructing a plan so that when my eBook is created and published, I will instantly get back my expenses and maybe some income too.

I marketed my eBook on one forum (outside the IM niche), and have seen great success with it.

It is a great place to start, get your name known, and create authority.
