Is it possible to make bread only using twitter?

I'm new to twitter, not new to online marketing.

Is it possible to make money exclusively with affiliate marketing on twitter?

Is it worth the time investment? I don't want to lose days, much less weeks, on twitter and make minimum wage here (or less).

Are there any decent FREE tools that automate targeted friend-adding on twitter?
That's all i need, a one trick pony piece of software. Nothing uber.

If you have a free tool i'll opt in to your list. If you don't, go make one. Thanks!

I do make some sales via my Twitter tweets, but I wouldn't want to rely on just Twitter (I hate eating nothing but beans on toast).

Yesterday, I was checking my stats for the Success Manifesto 2011 blog. My number 6 traffic source was Twitter, but only 2.85% of all traffic.

But Kevin, that doesn't account for the tweets the hamsters are doing.

I know a guy who is doing about $30,000 a month on Twitter.

So yeah it can be done.

I had been averaging about 10K a month, but it slowed down a bit last month because I didn't really do much.

I think you really gotta be a hustler though.

I don't use twitter a lot myslef, but some of my friends do and get good results, you can get 2% of your followers to visit any link you post to them if your followers are tragetted i.e. you selected the people who are interested in certain niche. This traffic converts just like SE traffic.

and how do you know that these people are in your niche? is there like a category/or main list of people on twitter so that you could pick which ones that are on your niche, and add them? what i do is that i go to my friends list and add his list, and so on and so forth.. but i just do it randomly. :-(

You can do a keyword search within twitter. There's also twitter tools that search for conversations and add a bit more.

Twellow :: Twitter Directory, Twitter Search, & Twitter Yellow Pages will find you people in specific niches.

I make my living off of Twitter, but I sell services. I honestly think that it would be hard to make a living from affiliate sales on Twitter; it's easy to promote yourself and your own products on Twitter, it is hard to promote other people's products on Twitter.

          Hi Dana,

I use Twellow not only to find people in specific niches, but in specific geo-targeted areas as well.
For my offline business I use Twellow to locate twitters who are in my home town of Tucson, AZ. From that I follow most (especially ones more business related) & Tweet offline business offerings to them.

I picked up 6 local businsses so far off Twitter just using simple tweets like:
"I help local business owners integrate internet marketing techniques into their local marketing plans...interested?"

Or...be more targeted to specific businsses such as real estate or doctors:
"Grow your marketable customer database with a cost efficient email marketing campaign...find out how"

Twitter is working locally for me! It is not my only source of business...only a small portion but with a little tweeking I can do even better.

          Good Luck,
          Ken

I have made a few dollars using twitter, the trick is to follow and be followed by people in your niche or similar interest like eseller said.

One way to do this is to use search.twitter .com and then search for any tweets pertaining to your keywords, you can then follow those people who will inevitably follow you. There was a free auto program that did this, however I do not remember the name.

If you want to find out a few other ways to monetize your twitter followers, click the free advertising report in my sig box, I cover a whole section on twitter.

It depends on how you use Twitter, and what kind of products or services you're trying to sell.

There are people here who'll tell you Twitter is totally worthless, and there are people who'll tell you they practically earn their living on Twitter.. lol

For affiliate marketing I wouldn't even think of relying on just Twitter, but it can be a decent source of traffic.

I don't think the most effective use of Twitter is to use it by itself, but I think in conjunction with a blog it's very powerful.

I think the key to marketing with Twitter is to give it some quality time, get quality followers, and to treat it as a bridge to quality content. A squillion random followers won't do as much for you as a few hundred people that you interface with properly, and who follow you because they are interested in what you have to say.

You have to treat your followers as people, and not just a number in your follower count. Don't just throw up random shortened URL. Get a presence of in their mind as a provider of quality information. Once people trust that the information you provide is solid, you can work select affiliate marketing and product marketing into that information.

Twitter is really a lot like PPC advertising, only it's free and targeted. So, you should treat it as a bridge, not a destination.

There's many people on twitter already tweeting affiliate links (e.g. amazon deals) and from what I understand its mostly frowned upon, unless it is solicited. I just posted earlier that I think twitter may be a waste of time but I guess it just has to do with what stage you are at and how much time you can invest in it. You can also use wefollow to search for targeted followers.

Being frowned upon, well we just have to accept it. We are in marketing afterall..

Why should we care if some people disagree with what we post. We market in the whole world..some people will like what we do, some people won't..As long as we place a certain cap and maintain decency..

Before I had a mentally of being afraid to post ads, I was thinking that people will think I'm spamming, but I did try, and you know what, some people liked it..Some people actually followed the urls and clicked on them..

If you are providing value, don't be afraid to market, not only in twitter but in whatever social networks you are in..Just make sure you are providing value..

As with all sources of traffic, yups it's possible to make money in twitter..

If you are wanting to just use twitter for affiliate marketing, I would suggest you create another twitter account and not associate it with your brand. People don't like the affiliate marketing aspect of twitter.

However, if you build an account and provide alot of good posts, and sprinkle in some affiliate links, then that may be ok. I also agree with the previous poster that it is best when combined with your own blog. You can build up a great list and readership using twitter.

Some people have mentioned Twellow, but there is also Twollo, where you find and follow Twitterers with similar interests. You put in your keywords or niches and it autofollows people who mention those keywords.

twitter is golden right now because it is sucking in the most precious and elusive element today: people's attention

Right now dms on twitter get looked at and it's one of the fastest growing social media destinations. That means its a hot location for you to grab eyeballs.

How do you do that- by adding value: share your knowledge, experience, personality, opinios and gasp: being social.

But by the high number of these rubbish, canned dms that I get daily:

"Hi, my name is Net Marketer, thanks for following me>
Here's how I get 10000001 followers on twitter in 7 secs"

the greed glands seem to be clogging the social in the marketing.

      Stay Sunny,

Btw, ebay doesn't allow direct affiliate links in twitter (straight from the EPN forum). I suspect it's the same with amazon. One may be able to get some special permission though because I know I've seen ebay or amazon deals twitter accounts.

Hey pal since you are new to twitter let me tell you a secret to it and to your question yes it is posible to use only twitter to build your marketing business. Here is why twitter is great.

Go to the search on twitter type in a key word. you will find multiple people posting all about that keyword and that keyword alone. So there is no need to target your audience it is automated if done correctly. I personally use tweet my blog as one of my plugins this builds my twitter pals every time I make a post. I also post every article I wrote on twitter at every place it was placed. This again builds me friends every single post. These are all highly targeted individuals. Not only that using twitter also builds back links to your sites which is good to get better placement to the search engines.

Hope that helps pal come follow me on twitter and you will see what I mean follow me @http://twitter.com/petevamped

      Good question

I've been on twitter for about a week now.
And I recently came accross this free report talking
About the same thing your asking,
      making money directly from twitter.

It was called Twitter Banking and I beleive the
      URL is: twitterbanking.com

Hope that helps. I found it very interesting.

I do it by tweeting links to my latest blog posts.

I have almost 4000 followers at the mo and I get around 30 clicks per post. I always post my latest blog links 3 times a day. I should point out that I tweet about 20 times per day so those 3 links never appear spammy. Then it's just a case of funnelling the traffic via adsense, aff links or sign ups.

    Kind Regards
    Gary

when i still had only 2500 followers, i continually tweeted a comedy squidoo, i was doing it as a test, and only getting 5 visitors a day.
then i tweeted about 40 times about an article posting and spinning directory, and got 1000 hits in 4 days. so i became a sort of addict. Putting in about 1 hour a day sometimes a bit more.
recently i tweeted to get people to join a directory for free, actually i simply said that i would promote their product for free, and only got 8 hits. But wait, the joke is i now have 12000 followers.
all this is making me a bit nervous as in about 10 days i am going to try a twitter launch, with a product that i think is ideally suited to twitter. so i am trying to grow my followers to about 20 000, and am hoping my new product will be a hit. hell i suppose if it doesnt work there i will still have a great product.
any of you who read this are welcome to keep in touch with me to hear the results of my attempt.
naturally if it is a roaring success then i would have gained another product out of the experiment. how cool is this internet marketing thing?
so the correct answer to your question is - it depends upon your product. and i suspect how you word your tweet.
by the way if you use "twitter karma" to clear out your non followers often, your followers could grow at a 1000 a day rate fairly easily. although i am now running 4 different profiles.
use twitter karma only on firefox.
and yes the comment above (in another post) about following people in your niche or subject is good advice, but i am presuming that over time in my case i am going to offer my followers a vast variety of stuff, and do not want to restrict myself. i might have porn-affiliate advice this week, and spinning of articles next week.

    cheers
