Blog averages 4 million views/month, how much money should I be making?

use adsense. add an opt in with a sales funnel. maybe begin writing about making money blogging? Post proof that you're making legit cash. Create a product or sell someone elses that shows how to replicate. I'd kill for that much traffic.

Maybe, you should start focusing on just one niche, sub-niche or micro-niche. Having 4 million views in one month is already good. Come up with high quality articles for your blog. However, if you do not have time to study all of the things that you need to do, just ask for the help of a SEO expert, so you can start monetizing your website.

With 4 million views per month, you can really try a lot of strategies and still manage to survive though you fail for a couple of times. Still, you have to come up with the most viable strategies and be smart about using the figures that you have earned to make even more money than what you are already earning.

Why don't you take a fraction of 1 months earnings, and hire someone that knows what they are doing regarding monetizing high traffic websites?

Edit: That sounds real sarcastic, but I am being dead serious, think of it like investing.

You need to build an email list and market to that list in order to increase your earnings. That's all you need to know, the rest is just noise!

Well, I don't think there is a concrete number that could tell you how much you should be making. You can try to experiment and monetize your site in different ways. That's a very nice stat that you have by the way.

You should be selling advertising yourself. You don't need an ad network. They are just taking your money at this point.

There's lots of guides online about selling your own advertising space. With your stats you won't have trouble finding clients.

AdSense makes peanuts, however you should test and tweak different layouts and ad formats

You should also add relevant Amazon products

Do you know what kind of people visiting ? randomly, blogers or others?

If you've got a broad niche, it's hard to say EXACTLY what to promote to increase revenue.

However, why not start some sort of newsletter?

With the traffic your getting you'd be able to build it FAST.

Then you can start running email promos for max $$$$.

Also, any specific reason your not using AdSense? Some of your political keywords could have a high CPC.

I'd also suggest you run a few ads on your site yourself i.e. affiliate banners etc.

I would recommend selling ad space or paid guest post. Make as much money as you can. Congrats on the traffic, that is very impressive.

Wow, maybe you should be teaching us how to get traffic.....as a few people have said, build a list and find out what they would like. Create products to suit this need or affiliate to other products. If you want less hassle then placing your ads better will make much more money. If your ads were only at the bottom of the page then having them at the top too should see a huge jump imo.

1 million impression per month?

If you insert your Adsense pub into your blog...
1 million impression x CTR 3% x EPC $0.2 = $6,000 per month.

So $5,000 per 1 million hits is enough good.

With that much traffic and sales I wouldn’t change anything. I would however get an opt-in form on your site and give away a free report or a 7 day free ecourse on your particular niche. Start pulling in leads and then you can add an affiliate marketing campaign through your autoresponder, basically offering comparable affiliate products to your list. With that much traffic and depending on your optin conversion rate of course… you could double your money each month.


The next thing I would suggest is get another website up and running right away. Do exactly what you are doing with the next site. (with lead capture of course, so you can monetize your traffic)

You're kind of big now. You need to get most of those subscribers onto a newsletter and put out content that makes them happy, and makes you money.

Great blog if that many are visiting but you have been throwing money away by not having an opt in box and something free to gve away to get sign ups. Forget starting another site until you correct that drastic mistake you have been making.

Once again we have to tell people here to BUILD A LIST! The money is in the list never in just the website or blog. I bet you could have been making up to 10 times as much had you done this right from the start?:rolleyes:

Forget more ads on your blogs which send your visitors to someone else. Also giving too many choices will confuse and result in less not more earnings? Yes you do get paid but if they were on your list you would get paid again and again with the same people buying from you?

adsense for sure, then spend $100 to get someone to write a free report, give it away and get user optin to your list.

I'd start selling advertising myself, if you make another page with your statistics and how much you want for each ad, and the size of each add you should get a whole sidebars worth easily.

Or like others have said go down the building a list/selling affiliate products route.

Not sure exactly without knowing what your blog is ... but you look to be making way too little money for the kind of traffic you have.

About one penny per view. With 4 million your should make at least $40,000 per month - actually closer to $50,000 per month and that would be $600,000 per year. All the best to you.

Holy cow, 4m views? I'd kill to have that much traffic. Could you maybe give us a little peek at your blog? It's true though that your strategy would depend on what blog is really about and what you're willing to focus on. Every niche/product would have its own conversion rates and profit margins.

Most blogs with that kind of traffic, have rotating ads placed all over their website served from multiple ad networks that pay on a CPM structure.

You're selling yourself short with going for only one ad network. Find networks that will offer you high CPM.

And definitely start selling ad space on BuySellAds

If you have so many visitors while you are writing about different topics, this means that you are a good writer and your words are helpful. Congratulations!

You should be careful, though. Don't add too many ads and products because if your blog is so simple and it attracts so many visitors this is because they believe that you are sincere and you are not simply trying to make money.

Don't give them the impression that now that you became famous, you became greedy…

Are we talking about HITS, VISITS or UNIQUE VISITORS?

One of my popular blogs has 3,750,000 hits per month. It is heavily promoted on major national radio stations. But, that equals approximately 110,000 visits and just over 44,000 unique visitors. Its regularly in the top 100,000 sites worldwide. Just 3.2% of my visitors stay more than 1 hour on the blog.

I highly doubt that a random non specific blog can generate 4 million visits every month unless the visits are mainly spam crawlers or the site of an extremely popular reality TV star or other celebrity. Personal experience, I have had google and bing crash my webserver on occasion, now scaled back to very limited crawling action. I even had to tell google to seriously slow down its crawler and even ban the Chinese search engine baidu.

Before claiming 4 million visits please look at your statistics as there are probably crawlers that spend less than 30 seconds on the site and basically create a false positive. If your 4 million visits spend more than 5 minutes on your site then my hat is off to you and of course if you are being truthful $4,500 from this site is very good indeed. However, if its 4 million hits, then that is a hit on a webpage or an image or other file on your site.

The amount of money you make is not directly related to the amount of visitors you have but how intelligent is your marketing or monetization strategy. As such you could do a combination of the following; Promote or sell a product, combine ad networks(adsense etc) and finally you could create a sales tunnel to building a list. With these changes you could see more than double your current earnings.

First,start selling products yourself as an affiliate.
add something like a Pop-up that asks for people's name and email address in exchange for a free video that shows how to do something then when people opt-in,let them be re-directed to a sales page of the video you are promoting.There are awesome plugins that will design really amazing pop-ups for your blog
Second,make sure you are building a list - at the end of every post,give a call to action for your readers to opt-in to your list
Third, add an "Advertising" Page for the general public where people can advertise and with the type of traffic you get,most folks would easily pay $100 for a few thousand impressions - you should also start doing sponsored reviews.There are tons of product owners that will pay you really well to write a review of their product

First of all, congratulations on having a successful website. I don't know many people who can have millions of views per month. That is a major success. The amount of income sounds good that you're making. With this successful website, I believe that you can make anywhere from $30,000 to $100,000 per month. What's needed is just a great offer or product on your website that converts. You will be making money in your sleep.

Alright, thank you, everyone. I really appreciate the input. I have chosen to remain anonymous, and maybe that isn't necessary. But my blog is now fairly well known and I just don't want the economics and financial aspect of my operation getting out there. I don't know why, exactly. I'm sure my readers wouldn't begrudge me my profits.

So, sure, I could be making all this crap up. I can't fathom why any human being would create a profile on a marketing forum only to anonymously brag about a fictitious blog. Then again, this is the internet, and it's sort of known for that kind of thing. I don't blame you for calling shenanigans -- but there aren't any shenanigans here.

As far as my unique visitors: I'm not sure. I'd estimate, for this past month, I've probably had about 3 to 4 million visitors total. In one day I had a million and a half, so that gave me a pretty good boost.

To the people who said it's not possible that I've had this sort of traffic with a non-specific blog: that attitude might be what's holding you back in your own pursuits. There are no rules to blogging successfully, save one: be good at it. All of the other "tips" and "guidelines" are useless, in my experience. Put compelling content out there, and people will come. Personally, I built a social media following for a year before I launched my blog. Then, when I started it, it only took a few months before I had my first viral post. Once one thing goes viral -- you're in. The only task is to seize the momentum and maintain it. Now, I generally have one or two viral posts a month, with several others getting several hundred thousand views each, and my least productive posts garnering 30 or 40 thousand hits.

I don't have a recipe for viral posts. Topical, controversial, relatable, provocative, relevant, insightful, funny -- these are good qualities if you wish for your internet content to "go viral", but you can't be topical for topical's sake, and you certainly can't be controversial for controversy's sake. I only write from my heart -- as corny as that sounds -- and I try to communicate it in a compelling way.

Again, thanks for the feedback. I just hope that the people who doubt my story simply because it doesn't fit the blogging "rules" will seriously rethink their philosophy. This is a creative field, and there aren't any guidelines to creativity (except for the one I already mentioned).

As some suggested, I might eventually start a second site with a more specific niche, but I just don't have the time for it right now. At the moment, I think I'll concentrate on building my traffic.

Even still with that much traffic you have to be ranking front page so why bother with ads at all?

I am guessing you are making around $5-$6K every month and you don't know much about marketing etc. Why don't you invest some money and hire someone professional (prefer local) for 2-3 months and try it. I am sure you will start making least 3x more money every month.

You truly have an insane amount of traffic man.

Do you have a an opt-in form in it? A pop-up to collect emails?

If you don't you are missing you BIG TIME.

Focus on building your list and then create an email follow up to promote products related to your niche.

The money you are making right now is peanuts compared to what you could really be making by having a good sales funnel in place.

If you are not collecting leads then you are not taking advantage of thousands of customers because most people that visit your site won't come back.

By collecting people's emails you are going to create a database of customers from which you will be able to promote products over and over again.

You are one lucky and hardworking fella! You can use that kind of traffic by marketing whatever you would offer - services, ebook, etc. Start an email campaign or newsletter. It would help even more.

Your profits are great, and I think you can be making way more based on the number of views.

I don't know what your niche is, but you should build a following using email marketing. Add a simple optin form to your web site, perhaps a resources page with affiliate offers.

This thread is over a year old. I'm guessing he figured it out by now.
