Autofill opt-in. using facebook details...Good or Bad ??

Hey Guys,

I just discovered how to put up an opt in form which 'Auto-fills' with viewers facebook name and email address.

Now, I guess the idea behind it is to :
A: save time and make it easier for people to sign up,
B: collect the BEST email address.... (people are more likely to read emails sent to their facebook address??)

What I'm not sure about is how they actually perform?
I'm wondering if it would scare people AWAY seeing a form automatically populated with their details !!??

Anyone have any experience with this??

Cheers.
Steve

I've have tested this, and in each test I have done the conversion rate is really low.

I forget the actual numbers as it has been a long time. But it was drastically lower than a simple email address form.

My guess as to 'why' is that people still want the seperation between their facebook profile and an offer like that.

Keep with using only an 'email' field.

      Cheers Dain.

I've taken it down in favour of plain email box type!#

      see how that does.

      Many thanks.

No problem man. Glad to help. Of course do your own testing.

But i tried it twice (just to make sure) and found opt-ins were very low.

The benefit (perhaps) would be that you get their actual email address as opposed to maybe a spam email that you put in.

So really what you should be testing is your conversions on your offer.

Maybe you get less opt-ins via Facebook, but more sales.

        Test test test.

But you'll get more opt-ins the other way. Plus, I think most in the opportunty market are addicted to checking their email anyway.

          Thanks again Dain,

Blog is pretty new so just in the stages of getting the word out really,
Not actually selling anything, just providing information on my experience and what I've learned so far, ...
the only reason the form is there is so people can opt in to get notified of updates and whatnot........ If they use defunct email it's their loss:rolleyes:

          Anyhoo,
          Thanks again.

          Take it easy.
          speak soon.
