How I went from $0 to $200 a day in under 2 months

A lot of you have probably been browsing around these forums for some time. While I have always been a lurker to most IM forums, I am by no means new to this business of making money online.

To give you a very short intro, I got my start in 2006 when I first discovered that you could make money from blogging. From that point I dug around the internet for truth and knowledge. Eventually I started making a little bit of money and by the end of 2011 I was making close to $25k a month when it all came to a huge crash when the first Penguin roll-out occurred. I was completely devastated. I took a break for over a year to learn a thing or two about life and accept what had happened.

Moving forward to 2013 I decided to start back up. I had let most all my sites go and had a few left that were bringing in scraps of change here and there. I sat down and put together a game plan. Here is what it came out to be.

1. Choose a general niche
2. Get 500-1000 articles written
3. Build a handful of quality links daily
4. Monetize with adsense
5. Bust tail til I reached $100 a day

From that point on I started working 12-14 hours per day building my site out the right way so it would not get slapped by the next update. In under 2 months I already started having $200 days in adsense earnings.

Chance you say? Not at all. Persistence and determination along with some skill!

Can this be replicated by someone else? Of course it can. Does it cost a little money to get it done? Yes it did.

Here is a breakdown of my costs.

$1300 in content
$200 in links
$10 for domain with private registration
$5 a month for hosting

Total Cost: $1515

Was it worth it? Heck yes it was. And now I have already made my investment back plus earning a healthy chunk of cash daily.

If you have been planning on getting started with building an authority site I suggest you start working on it today! If you put in the time and dedication you will make money if you build your site properly.

If you have questions feel free to ask? Just don't ask to see my site

Update: Additional things I did which are being asked in this thread is, I built a list of keyword phrases each week to target what I wanted to rank for.

The quality of the content was very mediocre. Not horrible, but not great. As it stands right now Google can't really differentiate between great content and mediocre content, so I decided to spend less money.

I have tested great quality content vs mediocre already and found the only real difference is that great quality can help you potentially get more social visibility which is great. It all comes down to cost, time, and investment vs profit.

On a few new sites I have started I do have very high quality content. But then again I have an idea of the kind of profits there are to be made.

I appreciate the suggestion The nature of this site however is not to build a list. I definitely would have added a widget if it was pertinent to this niche.

I only use a Google authorship markup and that is it. I do have a structure to my site which is beneficial for SEO though.

I started building links with quality link directories first. I did this to gain the authority needed before I built any other links. I did this and focused on my social profiles, especially Google Plus.

To start I just put up 5-10 articles per day. Then within a week I increased it to 20-30 a day, and kept it steady at that level for some time.

This site was not built to collect emails if that is the list you are referring too. If you are referring to a list of titles and keyword phrases to target then yes I did create a list every few days and continued to get content for those keyword phrases.

          Hi TerryX,
I'm curious as to where you have put your articles. The article sites seem a total waste now and I am debating whether or not to spend my time posting articles on generic blogs I create on Wordpress or pay to post them on sites that are related to my niche. Thanks for your help!

You can never really tell the quality of writing that freelancers and agencies do just by looking at their rates. Others just charge high prices, then, that is all. The only thing that makes them look credible is their expensive rates when, in fact, they cannot even give the quality of service that their prices are suggesting.

So you spent less than $2 per article, lol. I guarantee you were being VERY generous when you called them mediocre. Crap is the only thing you got at that price. If you want to keep earning $250-$300 a day, you better fix it. It's days are numbered if you don't. The algorithm may not catch you, but a manual inspector will once a competitor reports your site. Even sooner if you're using Adsense.

Of course, this assumes the site even exists at all. If I were a gambling man, I'd bet it doesn't.

Wow man. Why are you so negative. Might want to check your math and read a little closer. Cost was well over $2 per post. Have you ever bought content from iWriter and do you know the cost?

Then you go off about the algorithm. Hilarious you are! I already had a manual inspection buddy. Human hung around the site for some time from Mountainview with an IP from Big G going through pages, and the site is fine.

Quality depends on the niche you are in. Quality content is just one small tiny factor in the algorithm. Right now it is not a major one. I have proven this to people on several occasions. There are many variables to things. Relevance and quality are two different things entirely though

iWriter was where I started. It is very cheap, but you will have to filter out the junk and try to get a handful of writers there to keep doing work if they are good. Make sure you tip them and they will want to write more.

As far as linking, I did that myself. I do manual link building when starting out to play it safe. I start with high quality directories, and then move on from there.

You certainly could. I will say the single most important thing that will help you the most is getting the keyword research done correctly.

Find a niche that you want to target... A general one. Then start breaking that down into subcategories, and then from subs to posts. So for example... Lets say I am going to focus on Toys as my general topic. Then more specifically stuffed animal toys, squishy toys. Then digging a little deeper think about the various stuffed animal toys that are out there. So here would be a few example posts. "Big hello kitty stuffed doll" or "Stuffed animals that play music" and so on.

Hope this gives you a better idea of how to structure your site and dig to find a niche that you can target low competition keywords for.

ViViD, your story is similar to mine. At one time, I was making $30-$50k per month net profit, after expenses. Then Google banned me from their Adwords program and then I lost my organic search traffic. I thought that was the end for me.

But the human spirit never dies. No Google? No problems now. Facebook, Twitter, Youtube, MSN and other places have loads and loads of traffic.

I am not quite back to previous levels but rebounding for sure

I know it can be tough. I didn't have the cash for all that. I had to use other sources for some of that cash. But once the money started coming in I was able to get a decent buffer, and can now invest in other endeavors.

My suggestion to someone that does not have much money to start is this. First write content on your own. Target a small niche that is easy to rank for. Earn $5 a day, then sell the site for about $1500-2k either here or on Flippa or through another service. Then take that $2000 and reinvest into your business and go all out with that cash to build a larger authority site.

Yes I can. If you see my response I mentioned I was bringing in $250-300 a day with the site now. When I hit $200 a day I was at 450+ posts. Beyond the 2 months of time that I was able to work up to $200 a day, I have added more content and make more money with the site now.

Most of what I was doing was editing of content. I wrote a few articles, but I din't put effort into that as paid was the route to go to grow things quickly.

      Hope that makes sense.

    Congrats, Vivid.
    Some questions for ya.
    How many uniques a day?
Is adsense your only source of revenue?
    Strictly organic traffic?
Using articles only? Pics or video?
    Social Linking? (Face book,twitter,etc.)
    Wordpress or HTML?
700 articles cost you how much?
And lastly, why aren't you capturing leads?

Site gets over 3000 uniques a day now. Adsense was merely a starting pint to get back into IM with this site. I have experience in other areas though and am working on a list based site now, and an affiliate base site.

Yes I set up social accounts for this site and actively worked them in the beginning. Now I work them mildly. I am not capturing leads because it is not built for that. This site is purely a revenue generator right now to give me cash flow to spend money on what I need to grow my business.

I have no fear whatsoever in regards to SEO or adsense. I have learned from my previous mistakes. Think about this... Social accounts or Youtube accounts can be shutdown just as quick. Nothing is secure! Sure some methods are more secure than others, but I have no problems or worries about what happens tomorrow. I am moving in a direction and cannot be stopped right now.

Hey Big Rob, yes most of my traffic is from search. There is some from social, but mainly search. CTR is pretty high, and CPC is pretty decent as well. Not really many return visitors. On average its $250-300 per day. Not always over $300, but combined with my other stuff I do over $300 consistently per day now.

$0 to over $200 in under 2 months with AdSense with a brand new site? Sounds too good to be true! But kudos to you if you are raking in that kind of moolah!

Quick questions: Are you building links to individual articles or to the main domain? Also, are you using an AdSense friendly theme such as the HeatMap theme for WordPress?

Thanks Mustafa! To start I build links to the index page only. I also make sure these links are all branded anchor text. For example if my site was domain.com then my anchor would either be "domain" or "domain.com". I start by getting links only from link directories that have a lot of authority. I do this slowly. I also build some feeder pages off of the homepage which has multiple links on them to specific posts. I link to these pages as well as my category pages. I do very little linking to my posts. 95% of my link profile is based on my sites brand.

              Hope this helps!

Could you be more clear on that? How strong is your website's internal linking structure? Also, you didn't answer my question about the theme you're using.

Its ok, do you think highly spun content will still rank and safe?

i mean add a video, add images, article spin with spin rewriter and manually edit it before posting.

If the content is manually rewritten it should be fine. But anything that is spun and not readable and doesn't make sense can cause problems.

I know it can be done, I have a handful of adsense sites. I have always been very careful with them and have been rewarded.

This is a very motivational post!

Quick question -- what type of theme did you use for your site? Also where did you place your Ads to get the highest click through rate?

Congrats on achieving a steady income in such a short time. I think it's awesome and very inspirational. I've been devoting most of my time to my work online. It feels comforting to see others, like yourself ViVid, putting in lots of hours into their work and see it manifest into a successful venture. Keep up the great work!

Internal structure mainly consists of related posts. I do some internal linking within content but not much. The theme is quality but simple. It has a very nice homepage which is static.

Main tools I use for Keyword research are keyword planner, and google instant results in search bar.

Theme I use is a premium theme slightly modified. I place ads within content of the first paragraph floating left.

      Great thread btw.
I researched the IP and also watched the movements and visitation of the pages. This was a human from Google using a browser which did not act as a bot.

I'm going to get a little more detailed about my on page SEO for Mustafa and any others wondering to give you guys a better idea of what I am doing.

As far as plugins are concerned I use All In One SEO plugin which I have used for years with no issues. Some people seem to have problems with it for some reason, and it can be weird with some themes. I set my archives and tags to noindex. I set my categories to index. Categories page is always set to show only excerpts. Sometimes this requires modifying in the archive.php file in wordpress.

My homepage is a static page. This means I wrote content as a page, then set it to be my homepage under the reading section of Wordpress. I link to several pages from my homepage I created which I use to feed my posts. On these pages are links within the content going to about 10-15 posts I feel are worthy to get the link. These are usually promising posts which could get good traffic based on keyword planner tool. Other than that the only other links coming off my homepage are links to categories. These categories are then feeding my posts. I set my categories to show upwards of 50 posts per page because I hate creating additional deeper pages for the site. No reason to spread link juice around so thin. From there I use related posts plugin on individual posts to spread link juice around throughout the posts.

That is pretty much how I structure my other sites as well. Hope that helps some of you!

This is an awesome thread, after weeks of lurking this got me to register. Are your other projects set up in the same vein as the one you've been talking about? Seems like a cash cow you could replicate.

Thanks for following Matt, my other sites are around other topics. They are set up in a similar fashion as the one I am referencing in this thread though. One of them I built off an aged domain which is doing well. I may give a tutorial if there already isn't one on how to Find an aged domain and build a site with it. How to look for proper indicators of a good domain etc... If there is enough interest within the week I may start on that in the next few days.

Additionally there are other tutorials I may write up on such as various strategies of link building etc...

In the meantime If you have any specific questions you want answered please don't hesitate to ask?

So your upfront investment would be 1000 articles X $5.00 each. That's $5K to make $200 per day given 60 days later and everything works out, with nothing set in stone. Hmmm....

$1300 had been used for content.... Content is king! Google loves original content.

The SEO on page (content) is more important than the SEO off page (link building). However, SEO off page factor is still needed for supporting the SEO game.
