E-Mail marketing lists for sale?

Guys I have been looking for some low cost ways to generate traffic in order to give away free reports. Giving them away is tough because you never seem to be able to get your report in front of enough eyes. So I begin to look for some low cost advertising methods. I figured that email marketing was the way to go. I typed in "email marketing lists" and came up with several results.

These are lists of people who have supposedly shown interest in a particular subject or niche. You purchase the list and you are off I guess. I am very worried about trying this because I am worried about being punished for spam. Plus I wonder just how legit this avenue is. Some lists I found were cheap, a little too cheap. Others I found were pricey. Here is an example of what I am talking about below. This is not an affiliate link, just the link to the main website.

They are not cheap, but claim to have targeted email lists you can pay to have access to in order to market. I was figuring if this is legit it can be a good way to generate traffic or give away some free reports. Has anyone ever tried this? What were the results? Does the price you pay play a role in how well you do? Should you avoid this tactic altogether?

I just started buy solo email blasts on fiverr to promote a free webinar to build my list.

I have only bought one email blast so far with zero results.

I just purchased another solo email blast today.

I think you just have to try several different lists and see which ones are most responsive to your ad. I don't think there are any shortcuts besides writing great copy.

The majority of solo ads on fiverr are blasts from cheap traffic.

Avoid them at all costs and get solos from reputable places like here.

"Email lists for sale" and "solo ads" are two very different things, guys. The key difference relates to the all-important concept discussed in post #3 above, of whether or not the person from whom the subscribers receive email is the person whose list they opted in to join.

I should, yes. Clearly and definitely. Others can decide for themselves.

It isn't the list that "works", Robin. It's the relationship between the subscribers and the list-owner. That's why a bought list isn't typically worth much at all.

Almost nobody here who has had any success at all, with email marketing, will ever recommend buying a list.

People open, read and sometimes act on emails they receive from people to whose lists they've subscribed because that was the person from whom they wanted to hear by email. It's about the person.

The single biggest factor that affects whether or not someone opens an email is who it's from.

These might be legally "permission-based" emails. (The key word is "might"). But that doesn't give you a relationship with the subscribers, and they don't know who you are. That's why autoresponder companies don't allow people to import a bought list, because if/when people "report spam", ISP's stop permitting emails from those IP numbers to be delivered. Which means that the service's other customers would all suffer. And the reason that no commercial autoresponder company will allow you to do this is the same reason that you shouldn't do it on your own, with a self-hosted autresponder, too - because if you do that, it's your internet connection, domain registration, hosting and reputation that you're putting in jeopardy, rather than those of the autoresponder service provider.

Here are a few posts/threads that may help you ...

Spot on. Solid advise right here, in a few sentences. You can sleep with somebody's wife but you can't pay your bills with their credit cards

Tried solo ads on Fiverr a few times with zero results. Fiverr is a great place to get certain things, solo ads are not one of them.

I would highly recommend against buying an email list.
You don't know how that list got acquired, nor do you know what the people of that list registered to.

Did you by any chance get an unsolicited call from a company offering you a service that you have no need for? How did you feel about that?

Find ways to build a list the right way and have them go into your auto responder email provider. Build a good relationship with that list.

You can get advertising in any form: (from a list owner, from a popular website targeted to your niche, banner advertising, pay per click advertising, content syndication and so on)

Save yourself from future headaches and don't buy any email lists.

Terrible Idea! You never want to buy a list...its a waste of time and money, instead run Solo Ads until you have about 400-500 Subscribers then go and do Ad-Swaps to grow it further or run PPC/PPV

Well said Alexa as usual. The relationship is the key. Don't buy a list. I personally stay away from ad swaps as well. I want to earn my subs trust and sending them to many offers will ruin your relationship.

Email lists you can't import them into any reputable auto-responder system. And your host is not going to let you run a standalone system Pommo with the kind of volume you would need to get any results.

You would have spent your money in vain.

Use ezines (which include solo ads). Find a seller and subscribe to his ezine. Check to see the quality of his content and how many times he mails out, that will help you determine whether or not to use his list and dont be affraid to ask for testimonials, and track everything. Dont buy solos from Fiverr or buy any list from anyone. Advertising is an art, just like internet marketing is a profession, dont throw your money away and stick to predefined guidlines or you can forget about doing this for a living.

I would not recommend you going with a paid email list... most of them are not opt-in and you will end up really fast being marked as a spammer... you will throw your money to something that won't work, whether you could spend that money for something else (lets say, solo ads)
