Would You Be Upset By This?

Hi Warriors,

I created a 40 page ebook about a year ago when I was just starting out in IM and I came across a product recently that looked good. I decided to bite and would you believe, it was my ebook, albeit with a slightly different title and author.

I don't know whether to be angry or flattered by this.

What do you guys think?

Well I suppose that you can be both angry and flattered.

You don't post much if any background detail however, such as, how and in what form did you distribute the origional book. What rights did you give or sell?

All of that will have a bearing.

    Regards,
    Jeff.

In religious language this is referred to as "redemption", buying what
    really belongs to you.

    Quite an interesting story.

I think I would be both angry and flattered - but more angry. Then, I'd realize, despite all the laws being on my side, the reality is that there is probably little I could do about it.

If you have some time to waste, it may be fun to try to get to the seller and hear what kind of lame explaination you get. I doubt it would be very productive, but could be fun.

      I'd definitely request a refund.

That's a hard one, as you can see both sides of the anger/flattered. I would probably contact the seller and see what they say. Maybe you can work a deal.

Reading similar posts in this and other internet marketing related forums it appears that this sort of scum bag operation is to be expected and it is simply too much trouble to try to do anything about it.

If the ebook is your property, it has been stolen - but this is the internet so that's all right.

You might not like what I say - but I believe it.
Build it, make money, then build some more
Some old school smarts would help - and here's to Rob Toth for his help. Bloody good stuff, even the freebies!

Not so much that it is all right, just that it is - more times than not- impracticable or downright impossible to do anything about. You can stress about, loose sleep, spend time away from what's making you money, etc. But in the end, there is not much you can do. Unforntunate, but simple reality.

Send a DMCA notice to the new "author" at once.

    Hi

I guess this happens a lot. If you used paypal or some other similar payment processor, would it help to report it to them? They'd probably just yawn!

I don't see how anyone would be flattered by this at all. The new "author" is simply too lazy to create their own product so they resorted to stealing. I know it's hard to do anything about it, but if you have a copyright notice on your product, then it's actually illegal.

Well, I certainly wouldn't be "flattered" if you've had your property stolen. I'd be angry.

Options have been discussed plenty of times. Also, the difficulties of applying those options. Fighting can be expensive and time consuming.

I'd certainly request a refund and tell the guy you don't feel you should have to pay for your own property!

If it is your ebook I would be angry .. of course ... maybe you want to contact the paymentprocessor or marketplace or whatever and tell them that they sell or process payments for a illegal copy of one of your products and that you will hold them accountable for any damage on their involvement in this.

And of course you should consider to press charges against this person

    kind regards from Vienna

    Andreas.

Must have been a good book!

Why not offer it as a WSO?
