I prefer a simple HTML-based approach. Suggest it's a matter of personal taste/preference and what then works best for you re conversions etc. You might think of trying different approaches (HTML, wordpress etc), test/refine and then zero in on the best approach to fit your circumstances and what you are seeking to achieve from the squeeze page.

You have many different options. Personally I don't know how to use html or anything like that not a programmer so I use wordpress with the optimizepress theme and I also use the leadpages plugin which has a bunch of squeeze page templates made for marketers.

If you're looking for something free you could use 90 second squeeze pages or download an html template from the leadpages blog and use that if you know how to edit code.

As for creating the copy on the squeeze page for your headline a great resource is this free headline generator.

Most of the time I roll with a simple html squeeze page. Check out Robert Plank's paper template. It's only like $7, maybe $9. I use it for a lot of my squeeze pages and sales pages.
