How Can I Earn Enough Online To Quit My Job?

Hi guys,

I'm new to this forum but have heard great things about it.

I've read a lot about making money online but there's just so much information about there.

My situation is that I hate my job. I only make $1200 p/m and hate my boss so am really wanting to quit. This works out at around $40 a day and I was hoping for some tips on how to make this online?

Thanks,

Sara

Whatever you do, don't quit your job until you have either diversified your income into many different streams, or until you have no debt - whichever comes first.

      • Affiliate marketing
      • Creating and marketing your own product
      • Many many more.

Get a$40 affiliate program that converts well and drive as much traffic to it as you can. If only converted at 2% you could make $40 a day with 50 unique visitors a day.

That is the easiest way to make your 1200 a month.

Don't make the mistake of quitting your job -- when you don't have a stable income off your business online. Start your IM business on the side, generate more income than current job for at least 6-12 months -- then possibly quit your job.

There are many ways to make money online, but there is also a big learning curve. If you're really serious about wanting to make it, you'll need to put a lot of work into it. You need to find out what you want to do and I would suggest following someone who is a good leader who can coach you.

        Sara,

From the few posts that have been made, you can see that there many ways to generate income online. I recommend you choose one method (affiliate programs are a quick and easy way to get started) and stick with it until you really learn it.

If you jump from opportunity to opportunity, you are likely to find yourself at the same place a year from now.

I want to encourage you to take a look at Site Build It. I think it is a great program for beginners. You can read through the SBI Action Guide online.

I also want to reiterate what several have already said. Stick with your job until your online business is well established. This can take some time but, with determination and guidance from fellow Warriors, you are sure to reach your goals.

Excellent point. I wonder how many small time online earners really pay taxes on what they earn? My neighbor sells on ebay and does not pay taxes and she collects disability. The rest of us pay for her disability check and her ebay earnings that she is not taxed on.

There are many good ones - I personally have read pretty much everything from Ken Evoy, John Delavera and Allen Says.

I also read stuff from Mike F., John Reese, Jeff Walker and a couple others.

I would highly recommend John Delavera's Turbo Membership if you have not had a personal coach yet. His stuff is top notch. I wished I knew him earlier.

        My 2 cents,

        Thanks

Ok - I'm going to suggest a slightly different path, given that this is the way I started and it still holds today...

          1. Pick a market where you have both an interest, some experience or at least a desire to dig in and learn about it, and has some proven buying activity around information (ebooks, dvd's, seminars, workshops, etc...) There are thousands of possibilities from broader health & wellness, business, hobby, relationships, personal development....etc fields.

          2. Dig into the niche and learn what problems or desires people are trying to overcome/realize...now put together a "solution" to one of those challenges to give away - your objective is to begin building a list. This could be a report, a video, an ecourse, a mini-ebook, a telephone interview....it doesn't matter so much what it is rather that it answers a pressing question for your marketplace.

          3. Begin to drive traffic to a landing page (either using paid traffic or using content to generate traffic) and build a list of those who want your giveaway.

          4. As soon as they get your giveaway, you begin balancing giving them valueable information and marketing affiliate products (eventually your own products) for profit.

This front-end system can be put together in a matter of a couple weeks - traffic generation can be instant through paid traffic or grow well within weeks if you use aggressive content generation techniques (free).

The good part of this approach is that you are building a bond with your prospects and can try different offers and products to them - your conversion rates will be higher than just sending them to a page once (yours or someone else's) and many of them will become customers for life as you build your business.

Jeff, good suggestion. In fact, if any of you would like to follow this path. There are three good resources that you can use:

            1) AffiliateBlackBook.com by .X.
            2) Opportunity.com by John Reese
            3) Ultimate Affiliate System by Allen Says

I have both resources of 1 and 3 above, they re brilliant. For 2, John's stuff seems to be on the similar path -

If you are new, I recommend you join the War Room here on the forum and devour the idea 3) first. Allen laid down the steps and the logic behind it. If you want a more hand-holding approaching, .X. is the man.

            Hope you find it useful.

            Cheers

I used Site Build It to get started but found it rather expensive once I knew many of the pieces of the puzzle. If you can invest in its fees, that's a good option.

It's taken me longer than I expected to get to a modest livable income with IM, and one reason is that I flitted around, trying a little of this and a little of that. Now I focus more... but you may need to flit around some to find out what to focus on that suits you! <g>

There seems to be 3 main answers here but I guess some would take more skill than others. If you're a talented writer, it sounds as if short-term income can be made as well as being a sound base for a business. Affiliate marketing seems quite hit and miss though from what I've read on the Warrior forum.

Here is some advice I would give you Sara:

    1. Write out, in pen, your goals in a structured format. I wouldn't start with aiming for $1k+ just yet but aim to cover an aspect of your expenses... perhaps next month's phone bill for example. This will give you realistic aims to chase and it will have a profound influence on your mentality. Build your confidence with small, attainable aims.

    2. You have to outline your skills and value to other people. If you are good at something, then never be afraid to charge for it. Freelance work can be good money. I funded my whole first few projects by offering my graphic design services to other marketers and had the advantage of studying it at University, so gaining online and offline work was too easy. If you are good at writing, how about writing articles for people so that you can gain a better understanding of how headlines, keywords etc work etc in addition to developing your own writing style and earning some capital to start with.

    3. My biggest advice is not to do EVERYTHING yourself. I, and many others, start out with this mindset but it really isn't worth it in my experience. Sure I learned a lot, but you want to get your website/product/service out there as soon as possible. This doesn't mean go crazy with your money, but place a value on your time. It's not free if its taken you two weeks to create a basic website. Time is money. You can find people to outsource work to here at the Warrior forum, Elance, Rentacoder or oDesk to name a few.

    4. Start with a hobby or interest. You will feel much more comfortable researching and writing about something you are familiar with. Learn your trade through being you, and then you can begin to branch out in to other markets. Research related keywords (words that acquire regular searches) by using free tools such as Wordtracker and Google's Adwords Keyword Tool. Make a list of these keywords, erasing the irrelevant and delving deeper into the good (do this by repeating this process but with the new keywords you found). These will form the foundations of your site content.

    5. Stay away from PPC (Pay-Per-Click). This is for advanced users only and you can easily find your credit card buckling under the pressure if you're careless with it. PPC service providers include Google Adwords, MSN AdCenter, Yahoo Search Marketing and various others (these are the main ones).

    6. Think outside-the-box, jump straight in and have fun.

    Regards,
    Alex

I would say find a great mentor first and learn everything you can from them. Then start with affiliate marketing to get a taste of how things work online. You will gain some marketing skills from this. Later you can maybe create your own ebook and sell it or your own website selling your own product.

Actually, it would need to be around $50-60 a day before tax, at least in the US. If you're getting benefits like health insurance this would increase even more. In other countries it would obviously be different. As for quitting your job it will also depend on your financial security and risk tolerance. I believe in having a lot of financial security myself but others are willing to go 'all in' on the off chance of nailing an inside straight.

How to earn it will depend on where your talents and resources lie and how fit what you know and have with what you can do online to earn money. There isn't a "one size fits all" approach to making money online. What works for one person may not work for you.

    Hi,

As others said, do not quit your job before you have a diversified income source that can replace your job.

    You've a target - $1,200 a month or $40 a day. Let's say $50 a day.

On the Internet, there are numerous things you can do. From providing services to marketing real & digital products. What you can do depends on your skill-set and interest.

    - If you've good command over the English language, you may start writing and selling articles. That will make some money for you, and at the lowest rates, you'd be able to achieve $40 a day with just 10 articles.

    - If you've had websites in the past, have worked with wordpress and other CMS'es, and are technically proficient - you may consider flipping startup & established sites. Even if you flip websites at just $99 per piece, and they cost you around $30 to create - you'll achieve your goal.

Once you've created some sources of income, and are earning consistently, gradually make a shift to Affiliate Marketing & Creating your own products. You'll see some substantial money there.

    ----

The best advice I can lend you is to:

    1) take action; and
    2) stick to a plan

The biggest mistake most newbies do is be impatient, give anything a half hearted try and then quickly jump onto something - supposedly - better. Do not do that. Stick to one thing, and give it enough time to see any results.

The system is very simple, though may not be easy!

    Best of luck.

If the current job is just too boring, it doesn't hurt to try to find another job with almost the same pay but NOT so demanding so after you walk home you still have enough energy to do IM in your spare time. I guess it took at least a couple of years before you can quit your job so the key is now to find one job not so boring but more relaxing ...

Good luck. I guess most of IMers here are part-time and are in the same boat. Let us know youprogress and we sincerely hope you succeed.

Don't forget to tell us one day, when that day comes, that "I quitted my boring job and make a living now exclusively from IM!"

Don't quit your job yet but in time you will be able to, affiliate marketing is where you definately want to start and don't fall for any of those scams about this $97 ebook course will have you banking in no time.

It takes a little time but you will be able to succeed my mentor raked in 4 figures in his second month of internet marketing and all from free methods. So don't listen to thoses people who tell you it takes money to make money, It may but the free methods out weigh the paid.

The paid ways will make you go broke faster than you got in to this if you don't know what you are doing. So take your time and learn first before you jump right in, the internet will be here and is growing bigger day by day.

I agree with most comments here. Do no quit your job until such time you're earning a stable income from your IM gig.

If you're good at writing or web design, you may start offering services to warriors here. Or another option would be to sign up as a freelancer in freelancing sites such as elance, GAF, oDesk, etc.

I did things a little differently I quit my job before I knew I'd be making enough money online -- and I'm not normally a daring person! Thankfully I was so motivated to stay home with my son that it worked out very fast.

I don't have any more words of wisdom other than what you see above. I just wanted to let you know that it is possible. Set your mind to it, map out your goals, stick with a system to start earning that money, (if you want to be sensible, save up enough to cover 3 months ), and quit! Your life is your own -- you can do it!

I completely agree that in this economy you should not quit your job until you've found that one thing that can pay your bills.

I recommend that you figure out what you are most passionate about. Before you dismiss it at a cliche, lets say that you are most passionate about cooking. You start there and think of ways you can monetize your love of cooking - (cookbooks are kind of played out, so scrap that - you have to learn how to diversify yourself from everyone else) video cookbook of 25 recipes that are each under 10grams of fat or weekly video recipe guide about vegetarian meals, etc. Trust me - there will be a way to monetize whatever you are interested in. If you concentrate on what you love the most, you will feel fulfilled and you'll also be able to make a better "whatever it is you will make" to your potential customers (then they'll come back for more!). If you have any more questions, feel free to message me.

So many fantastic replies. They certainly back up all the good things I've been hearing about this forum.
I will say what I've tried is website flipping. Other than some initial success, I've found it hard to make money with this method. I tried the siteflipacademy method of creating niche sites with joomla and selling them on sitepoint but it didn't work out. It seems harder to make money on start-up sites than it used to be. It's a method I'd like to make money with but every man and his dog have tried/are trying it and it appears to have become somewhat saturated.
Article writing seems to be a popular choice and possibly more realistic than affiliate marketing. Other than this forum, where else can I offer those services? Is it feasible to sell say 40 articles a week? And even more once I can start charging more and outsource?

A word of advise/encouragement. DON'T think that going online will make you rich or more successful. I've seen and read of too many IM guys that can barely make it work. From my observations the ones that DO make money would have been also very successful offline.
Also use this forum as a starting point. I didn't and wished I had.

I would say focus on article marketing. Focus on finding high search very low competition keywords. Then write your articles around the terms you found. Preferably a product name. Next link the article to the product page on E-bay (very good aff. program), then drive links to your articles. Try to achieve top 3 positions in google. Once you start earning a little you may begin outsourcing. It's very simple...

The reason I like E-bay so much is because if someone signs up for an account you get paid. They don't necessarily have to buy..

        Hope this helps

Yes, and there are basically 2 ways you can earn money online:
    1) Sell your own products
    2) Sell someone's else products (that includes Cost Per Acquisition model)

They are of different routes. If you are just starting out, try the second one first. But ultimately you need to have your very own unique product in order to make it BIG online. However, if you only aim to get a couple thousand dollars per month to compliment your current income, it's definitely a "can-do".

Learn and read through these forums - before spending a dime online.

There are quite a few good material here on this forum. Good luck, and don't get scammed by Get Rich Quick scams because they don't exist.

    To your success,
    Roy

My best advice for you is to first look for a new job, where you will be more happy!

Then I would start bum marketing. Seach for the bum marketing method in google. Work hard on that and don't quit your new job untill you are making at least 80 a day.

      Hello Sara

      There's some great advice here.

Good to hear that you're not planning on quitting your day job just yet.

Although I've witnessed it, I can't relate to the "hate job ... hate boss" thing - I've been very fortunate in that regard, I suppose

If I can just mention something related to this - in this situation, it's always good to keep a clear head, and not let emotion run wild, but I think you're doing great in this area.

I worked as a contractor for several years, and then ran my own corporation for 5 years, and there's one thing that's as sure as gravity - a business takes time to build.

My web ventures are part-time (web sites and virtual contract), so I can't speak about making a living off the web, at present, but I can tell you about my son, Bronson.

He finished school the end of 2007, and wanted to study graphic design. He did a course with an advertising school, and after getting his diploma he sent out about 4 or 5 resumes - the work situation in South Africa is not any different to other parts of the world (especially for someone with no experience).

Instead of just sitting around and moping, he began asking me about a web site - long story short, the beginning of last year I gave him a Site Build It! site, and honestly he's been making a living off his site since June last year. It didn't start with a bang - the first few months the money came in slowly, but it's grown to the point where he now makes the same (maybe more) than he would if he worked as a junior graphic designer offline. And his is just offering his design services - no affiliate or AdSense income.

Although he did get some help from me, he mainly read the SBI! Action Guide, and other articles, and steadily built up his business to where he is now. Of course, not satisfied, he's busy re-designing his site, and will be starting a pay-per-click campaign in the near future.

Some talk about the cost of Site Build It! as being high. Consider how many businesses can be started for $299 - and that's what SBI! is - it's about starting and running a real online business.

Sara, I would say yes, you can make money online, but it's not something that happens overnight, no matter what anyone says.

      Hope that helps.

      Best regards.

      Colin

It can be hard to wade through all the millions of ways to make money online, especially when you're given so many suggestions at once.

You need to focus on ONE effective method that you are comfortable with.

I suggest you find yourself a mentor who has been there and done that to show you their methods and techniques.

It can really save you years of frustration and learning.

Good luck escaping the rat race!

Thus the bane of WC is identified.

Also, why are people suggesting article marketing? That type of internet grunt work is probably the worst work in the world. It would be better to work at McDonalds or go door to door offering to clean up dog crap.

Seriously, you are talking hourly rates of $3 and $4. It's well below minimum wage.

I noticed at least a couple of people wishing they had more time to pursue their IM - ie a job that was easier or had shorter hours.

Look for jobs where you are in a caretaker role.

Most security companies are short on pc savvy staff, so when you rock up and tell them you're good with computers, chances are you can score a cushy job like mine alarm monitoring. Just ask if they have any alarm monitoring or CCTV monitoring positions.

All day long I'm browsing the net.
Now I have time to learn IM.

Do you have any special skill? For example, may be you are good and fast at writing or you have good designing skills?
I have seen many people starting online as a freelancer. That's indeed a good way to get started online. Once you make some money as a freelancer, you may invest someone towards developing other online business models.

If writing or graphic designing is n't your cuppa tea, you may get started with affiliate marketing. Choose a niche, pick up a product from clickbank and start promoting it.
You would need some investment (not much ) for registering your domain and buying web host.
There are several guides available some, some good yet free tips on affiliate marketing- you may do some reading and get started.

Whatever, you do be steady and focussed.
Don't expect to get rich overnight. With consistent effort and time, you will sure make dollars online and soon you will be able to quit your job for good.

    God bless,
    Your friend,
    Poppy

I have a question. Out of everyone who has replied to this thread, who is a full time IM'er? And out of those full timers who quit their job before they were making enough money to survive and who saved up a little money and commited 100% to their dream?

Just wondering because I see a lot of people who are not full time IM'ers giving advice on how to forever be a part timer IMO.

Yeah, I'd like to hear from full time Im'ers as well.

I make a living full time from writing, but I don't think that's what the OP was asking for.

I do internet MLM full-time, and really how I was able to completely quit was a diversified income stream, not just one product or anything.

Several different checks from different revenue streams.

The other thing I did was invest in educating myself on Internet marketing methods, and copywriting.

Finally, I executed like hell until I got to where I wanted. That is where most people fail.

Well here's what I did, I picked one thing I wanted to do (in my case PPC)
I then studied everything I could about the subject for about 2 month solid
for around 4hrs a night after work,

all the while I was saving some money to invest in my first campaign, needless to say my first 2 or 3 campaigns were not profitable and I lost close to half my investment but I never gave up and with my next campaign I was in the black,

I have never looked back since, and I managed to scale it up within 3 months to the point I was eclipsing my paycheck, now I do this full time which is great, but the key here is to continue learning each day,

become a sponge for information and initialy concentrate on one specific skill set and apply what you learn, this is also a key point, too many people don't apply what they've learned (I've been guilty many times) so don't fall into that trap and become lazy, and believe me you will be successful.

#1 Find another job that you like.
#2 Quit your job as it is eating your life (at least it sounds like it).
#3 Begin building up a product of your own (takes a couple months usually to start makin' $)
#4 Build it up till you can quit the new job as well.

I know where you are at hating your job. You need to get out of the frame of mind that IM will solve that problem for you. Getting another job will.

I agree with ColinD 100%. I have not seen a product on the web which delivers like sitebuild it. They don't hype. What they promise is that they give you all the tools in one place, they guide you on how to find something you are passionate about and write content.... the rest follows. What they ask is you provide the BAM ie brain and motivation. They have no hidden costs. Whether you are going into affiliate marketing, info products, I believe SBI is a wonderful tool especially for those who don't have alot of experience with internet marketing. They will help ypu get started on the right path

    All the best.

There's a lot of ways to earn money online, other than of course you have to learn what those ways are and how it was made. So if you want to have big incomes takes time to learn it all. Now it's up to you if you will quit on your job. Hope you have a good decision.

Especially people who don't have enough experience to know that the SBI system is vastly overpriced, severely limited and technologically outdated.
If I may ask, when did you last try SBI? How many people do you know who are involved with SBI? Did you know that there are many seasoned webmasters and online gurus who fall in love with SBI after landing on it? And, I have not seen many people who are with SBI who say that it is overpriced. Most people who say this usually have no clue on what SBI offers. But as we all know, no product is perfect for everyone ofcourse... but, having bought several programmes on the web, I would say that I got my money's worth... infarct way more.

The ideal situation is to find what suites an individual and follow it. SBI is what has worked for me. I would rather go with something outdated which delivers than with a modern things which leaves me frustrated. If you could share what has worked for you, maybe that would help us.

    Hi

I will say it again don't quit your job start doing internet marketing in your spare time first its going to take a little time to learn.

Document your online journey with a blog whats working whats not so other people can learn from you. Build a list once you have a decent size list give your subcribers good info. Send related affiliate products to them, don't spam them with them. Then watch the money come in. After a few months of this tell your Boss where to stick it.

    Cheers

    Graeme
