Ok warriors here is my question I am currently for what seems like for at least the 10th or 12th time in the past 10 years I am changing my home page ... it has been everything from basic 1 page html to 5 page flash site to a joomla site to an affiliate ppc page and now a WP site.

I am building sites for adsense and ppc affiliate pages as well as WP sites to flip and I really would like a simple professional looking page for my customers to find out about me and what I have to offer maybe a few affiliate ads and the links to my offers and project pages .

I have a blogger blog ..2 as a matter of fact that link to my home page . am I making a mistake by not making my company home page a full blown WP site with blog and forums and such ?

  • well that would really depend on what your goals are. If you want to have a community, obviously forums/etc are the way to go, but building up the community is a large amount of effert, and in the end, you'll find it's a social thing, not a business thing.

Buliding a wordpress blog can be a good way to go, one of the best things about it, is you can create pages, and make custom templates for them, which you can build directly for seo/sem. Alot of paid affilaite themes for wordpress do this - they have the "blog theme" and a "sales page" template.
In the end, just chose something and stick to it, and base your effert on targeting the keywords for your products, and building up the trust/links to the pages, if you do that, you'll find you'll get all the traffic you can handle =)

    • Going for WP with your blogger site will be a better idea. I never like the idea of running business site using blogger site. You will never know one day they will unplug your site. It is much safer to run your own blog site for business or pleasure.
  • What I've done with my main homesite is put a WP blog in a folder with a link on the front page. Here's the site to give you an idea:

    • Do what works for you.

That said, no matter what you're doing online, you need to brand your own name, so that people can Google you.

For my "name" sites (doing business as myself as a copywriter, writer or writing teacher, rather than any kind of niche site), my preference is for a static site with a WP blog in a "blog" folder.

Yes, you can have static pages in WordPress, but I prefer to use a static site and WP, simply because nothing is ever as simple as it should be with a dynamic site... and if you're wondering about the problems I've had with WP, don't ask. I tend to burst into tears very easily.:-)

(Not that WP is fragile, but I've got many dozens of blogs, so I tend to push the envelope a bit.)

Good luck -- WP really is a treasure, but things can and do go wrong, whereas if you've got a static front end, you don't need to worry if your blog's gone MIA for a while.
    • Sorry if I worded my post wrong I have a domain name with my home page and i have my blogger blogs linked to it I am not using my blogger blogs as my company home page.

thanks for all the input so far . I really like the idea of a single page with the wp in a folder of the domain as I really am not sure I need to promote the idea of a community and such on my biz home page . I may be wrong about that also.. as I am surely not a wealthy man form internet ventures to date ....but I am thinking maybe a basic, professional looking site with out to many bells and whistles and exit clicks might be a way to go
  • I like the idea of creating a WP offshoot of your company site. Although I haven't done so myself yet, I think it would create a great place for clients to post their opinions of service and an easy way for me to answer any questions in a central community-oriented setting where everyone could learn. I'm just waiting until I gain the amount of clients that would justify having such a community.
