Is public speaking important in online marketing?

Have you ever had to give a presentation in front of a large group of people regarding your online marketing? Was it optional? Is it important to do it to become successful?

Thanks.

I know wealthy internet marketers who don't speak to many people at all. You don't need this skill, you can even outsource presentations.
Personally, I love giving presentations because it's one of my natural talents and it helps my customers to know that I am confident in my services.

What aspect of internet marketing are you interested in?

I haven't pin-pointed one specific 'aspect' as of yet, but I have never liked giving presentations, ever. This isn't a case of 'practising', I simply, physically lack the ability. I can talk to people individually, in person or via skype, but put me in front of a crowd and I'll freeze.

That makes sense and it's the same way for many people.

It's easier to talk to others on Skype video or Google Hangouts as you are in a safe environment of your home or office. When you are in front of a group for a presentation you are in an unfamiliar untested environment.

I know the feeling, absolutely hate public speaking. For me creating training videos helps me to talk more comfortably and overcome the fear of speaking (one step at a time). It might help for you too.

But then again, giving presentations in front of groups in not mandatory to make it in online marketing. It certainly helps a lot, but you could do it without.

I've never had an issue speaking in front of groups or individuals, so that doesn't bother me. Depending on what you are doing, it may or may not be necessary to do any public speaking at all.

if you are selling link packages or something along those lines, your audience is going to be online. if you are selling local business marketing assistance, it might be to your good to make a presentation to a group of business people at a networking event.

Though this is good question but i think most of the newbies always try to give presentation personally. I am a newbie and i am trying that for me as well.

How can a newbie give a presentation? Isn't the purpose of a presentation for someone more evidently experienced and successful to share their success? Correct me if I'm wrong.

I wouldn't think this is a must have, unless you are driving traffic to workshops and seminars. And you are going to run them yourself. Even if you make Youtube videos or instructional videos these can be done without a crowd.

While you may feel inadequate to the task, entrepreneurship sometimes demands that you leave your comfort zone to pursue the best interests of the business.

I don't know if public speaking is required for what you hope to accomplish, but if you are asking the question, that tells me it has at least occurred to you that it would be helpful.

I encourage you to accept the challenge. Think of it as personal and business development at the same time. Not only is public speaking an excellent skill to develop, but it has a way of helping you to define what is important - because you want to only project the best information to your audience.

Start small, and work your way up to bigger audiences.

I speak in front of crowds frequently, and have come to enjoy it immensely. That doesn't mean I wasn't petrified the first time, and there is a little apprehension even now before I go up to front of the room. But it always goes well, and this is the kind of thing that will only help you in the years ahead.

Now, I embrace any new opportunity to speak - even when it is not directly related to my business. I find it helps me to sharpen the skills that ultimately will help me in business. And, for that matter, social situations.

Concentrate on your strengths, and build your business plan around them.

If you don't want to do public speaking, then don't. And don't fret or worry over it. It's your business and you have choices. It's not like you have a boss telling you that you have to do it.

That said, consider other options if you are thinking about an event. You could organise it, have other presenters and be in the background (tho' I'd bet by the end of the event you'd be wanting to grab the microphone).

      Regards

  • I did public speaking for years, it can make you money but it's alot of work I had to fly all the time and sometimes the promoter would mess things up like the PA system not working or they forget the screen etc...

It's not the best way to make money but it's a way and there are tons of good benefits you get to meet great people along the way.

However as efficiency goes, I don't think it's the most efficient way, leveraging media better and large JV partners is much more efficient and optimal and there are even more strategies.

No it's not required, nor is it important - especially if you don't plan on doing any public speaking. You could hide behind your computer screen in a dirty little room and earn thousands per month. Don't think that you have to necessarily work "hard".... just work smart.

It's certainly not required at all. This is the internet after all and you can market in your underpants if thats what you want.

Yes many successful people get asked to do presentations and some say yes and some say no. So either way dont worry about this.

It depends on your niche. If you must be respected and trusted to make sales, than you should give a public presentation. Otherwise, it is not necessary.

As many have said, there are many, many ways to do internet marketing without public speaking. You can choose a method where you don't "brand" yourself at all but you mentioned being comfortable one on one. You can certainly "brand" yourself with youtube videos if you are comfortable doing those. The more of those you do the more confident you will become to share your knowledge on stage.

Public speaking is an overcomable fear for certain but if you choose not to do it you can still be successful in internet marketing.

I personally feel public speaking in general is a tool that helps one communicate better. Any marketer would want to do that, communicate better. As far as public speaking with respect to internet marketing is concerned...there are marketers who earn $1000 from their online business and then make $100000 by talking about those methods in closed door seminars and brainstorming sessions. Then again you have marketers who make $100000 sitting at their home and not even talking to their family about it. So its all a part of the game as you see fit.

I believe it’s still important in some aspects. It depends on the product that you’re in. also, if your client is asking you to do so, then there’s nothing wrong with speaking in front of them. After all, it’s your business that will benefit what you will be doing.

If you’re not used to it and your client asks you, then I guess you just have to prepare well to do well.

    Good luck!

      Good day All.

Yes public speaking is very important in all walks of life. Does not matter where you are or who you are.

1-Here in W/F, even though it is typed, we are talking to you the public.

2-Coffee shops, shopping, on the bus, before and after a live presentation, on the net, or at a convention, the office (when you work for someone).

3-You never know who is listening, especially when looking for work or some one looking for some one to do a presentation for their product.

What you've said is true. This is as much a public forum as any live seminar in a conference room, except you can't really 'see' your audience. You can only read what they have to say. For that reason, maybe this is a good place to learn to relax in front of an audience, develop your own voice and feel at ease in a crowd.

What do you mean by this statement?

Do you use video on your site?

Have attended any meetings where they talk about public speaking and how you are able to use it?

Did you see any political people do live broadcast in there blogs, on forms, etc.

That was all online speaking. They had a bigger audience that way so they where able to be hear by more people.

Therefore online and offline are both effective ways.

I think one of the givens of online marketing is that you can can completely eliminate the speaking portion of business. That being said, though, you still have to be able to pick up and use social cues along with optimal verbage to properly sell whatever you are presenting. Emotion is so important in marketing, and just because the speaking part is taken out doesn't mean it's all numbers.

It honestly depends on what you want, for me I love speaking and would have no problem in a group of thousands, but for some they would rather little to no contact. Both are fine, I would encourage them to find a way to think different, you already talk to us and family/friends....Whats the difference? lol

its not more important but if you do public speaking and presentation regarding the internet marketing the main advantage is you will be little popular among the group of people but only if you talk really good about it and solves many peoples solution's who present in there , and people will have a trust in you so whenever u are about to react they will be curious to know what you are up to, so here you are becoming a social marketer, a social exchange between you and the people.

You can also have a Google + hangout and upload your YouTube videos about internet marketing that drives people toward you and that makes you successful in your field when people started trusting you whats more than that you are successful . (i am new to this forum i love to have a good contact with u all people and i can help you with my internet marketing knowledge ) and sorry for my bad English !!

Being comfortable in front of a camera is an important skill for an internet marketer as the best and often cheapest form of promotion is self advertisement and reviews done by the marketer on videos created for Youtube.

Anyone who confines their marketing efforts to online and
is not interacting with real people in the real world is earning
only a fraction of what they could be earning.

As for public speaking... love it... hate it... indifferent to it... it's
all a state of mind. People can do whatever they put their mind to

Being comfortable speaking in public is important in almost every field, even if you are never forced to give official presentations consider pushing yourself to do so or take some classes to build up your confidence. After all that is what marketing is all about, getting your name out there properly and with confidence. Good luck!

It all depends on what you want to do with your marketing but its not a required skill to possess. I know a lot of people who moved online and became Internet marketers for the simple reason that they did not want to do any kind of live presentations or personally talk to people. Guess it depends n how you want to do your marketing.

Not necessarily IMO. But I guess it just plays a big role if you chose to do so. And I've heard of successful many speakers is that when they speak, you hear the power of influence. Influencing other people by telling stories. And basically, most of powerful online marketer speakers around the globe focuses with that, and with sharing one story to another.

No it's not important for online marketing, but it's definitely a plus. Not because you have to speak in front of a large group of people but because when you're good at public speaking, it reflects in your online communication. You appear more confident in your emails, sales copy, etc.
