Hi everybody! I've been a member here for awhile now but do to the situations in my life i haven't been able to start in IM until now.

I was wondering if i should decide exactly what products i will sell before i start a blog or if that isn't necessary.

Would it be a good idea to create the content and build my list first and let any audience i build decide what i should sell?

Or am i just giving myself yet another excuse to not get started?

Thank you for your opinions!

Hey Welcome aboard! my best advice I can give you is stick to the big markets Health, Wealth, and Relationships, dig deep in them or follow your passion...You can virtually turn anything into a business just as long as you got the audience.

    1. Build a Website around Interest/Passion (Simple Google Search for audience volume)
    2. Create and Write Killer Content and have a place to optin and write email follow ups with killer content that is related!
    3. Build Trust/Relationship
    4. FORGET ABOUT A PRODUCT AND SELLING!

Focus on providing Value and build a list...a product will come along once you are ready.

  • You should decide what niche you want to become an expert in. That should be the first thing you do.

I suggest finding traffic prior to your niche selection. Targeting a niche which doesn't have traffic is a difficult lesson to learn. And when you think of traffic, think of traffic which buys.

Thanks for the advise! I didn't even think to do any research on the traffic in my niche that could have been bad!

      Good advice.

I look for traffic sources and then see if I can monetize them. The niche is unimportant as long as there is money being spent.

I strongly disagree. These are the toughest for a newbie to break into and the easiest way for them to fail. Find small niches you can easily dominate. After you've gained some experience, then maybe you can try the super-competitive niches.

We rarely see people struggling with niches out side IM/MMO, but we get posts from tons of people trying to compete in niches that they have no business in. They are generally frustrated, depressed and broke.

I would recommend creating a website with a landing page that you will use to collect emails for your new product launch. Try to build up some hype around your website and build a list that you can launch your product to when it is ready.

You need to plan beforehand by finding a nich that gets traffic. Do your keyword research and find commercial keywords with low competition. Use social media to draw traffic to your site by posting great headlines with a link to your site. Find popular articles and have the headline on your site with a paragraph explaining the article and the click saying go to official article. That will get you good backlinks and traffic.

All of the above are some great pieces of advise. My main goal for you would be to get started now. Stop researching for now and just get started. Set your goal for how many posts you want to do per day/week/month and hold yourself accountable. I use a notepad to keep track of all my tasks as well as a list of affirmations to keep me on track.

Your doing what most IM's have done -- research, and that is awesome! However, it can lead to long hours of more research, and analysis paralysis. My advice to you is to jump in right NOW and get posting on whatever you can muster up.

DO first, and learn as you go. By the time you "know everything you need to know about getting started" you will already have a months worth of content created.

Just my 2 cents, I hope it helps

You have to start doing something when you will have a business plan. The way you want to begin, and just 'do something' doesn't seem to be a good idea.

You don't seem to understand the real meaning of internet marketing. I believe you should study a lot more before doing something without understanding what you are doing. You can start testing your skills by using free platforms like Blogger, Squidoo, Zujava, and Hub pages.

These platforms are good for learning and testing, but don't create too many of them because you can lose your work.

Read many posts in this forum. First of all test your results without spending anything. Then, try to do something better.

At a certain point you will have to spend money, but then you will know how to make money. Right now you are far from real knowledge.
