New WFH project - Need your imput

Hi Warriors

Some weeks ago i started my first course, a free one teaching people how to make some easy cash using blogs + affiliates.

Now i want to grab that info (pdf's + articles + videos) and create a good list of IM newbies this way: i offer the content through Aweber messages once per week.

My question is:

Should i use my real story in the landing page OR should i twist it a bit (or a major twist) in order to get more opt-ins?

Right now its a long page (4 page down clicks) with my real story, how i ended up in IM after a successful career as a radio DJ and what i have been doing with my wife - solely working from home - for the past years.

Appreciate your thoughts on this one. I know i want to be truthful but i really want to grab more and more people into this list.

Thanks,
Fernando

I would be honest. That way, you don't have to have such a good memory. If people find out that your story was untrue, it could destroy your credibility, and on the internet since people are suspicious anyway, it could hurt you down the line. Also, if the story is too outlandish, people may not believe it anyway.

My goal its the long run definitely. And my story is just a normal one: quit my job and since i was decided to keep myself in the media business i started a regional portal... and the rest is history.

Why not split-test? Create one salesletter using your story, another with the twist and probably a third combining the two ideas. Then watch what the conversion ratios are and discard that whose conversion is comparatively low.

I don't want to split test this one. I just want to focus on a system - witch implies a approach.

If i decide to be a "grab this and get rich!!!" kind of LP i will not sign it bellow. If i move on with my true story i know i will miss lots of opt-ins.

Maybe start with a anonymous/pen name and in a few months reveal myself?

If you're going to use your real name - I'd stick with your real story. You could write it with less detail if you feel your landing page is too long. Or, give a really condensed version on the landing page with your opt-in and give a "read more" link where folks could find the entire story if they're interested. Or put your full story in the first message right after signup.

But using your real name and offering a story with a "twist" could come back on you. Surely you've mentioned details somewhere on the internet - in this post you've said you were a successful DJ - so if you tell a story that you were -say - a steel worker, a simple Google search on your name could show the lie.

Barbara, love the first message idea. I am editing the page right now and i have now a shorter version but a better one, more focused on what i want to tell them. Maybe I'll use your idea and give them the longer page in their welcome email.

Honestly, I'm not even sure you can stray from the truth on your salespage and still stay on the legal side of the law. If you want to make changes to the squeeze page, you can just drop the story altogether and give them more info about the actual product.
