Best way to make money now, by actually working?

I came here to see if a bunch of people together can come up with some ideas to make some money now, or can lend some avenues that I can use to get out of the job I am in. I am building houses now after having a very successful niche site empire and failing to manage my money the right way. Making money from sites isn't a problem, but time is nil at this point, and I don't have the money for PPC.

My boss is fairly unreliable for being able to keep me working, and it is hard to get a job in construction that even pays the bills these days. My girl had to get a job to help me pay the bills, and she just last week took over the full payment on something, and almost to completely supporting myself and our daughter if I don't get some money coming in. Pretty humiliating. I've been trying to do something about it, but it isn't working out like I thought it was going to.

I've spent the last 2 months building out a blog network of expired domains with good metrics and have put in 20 hours the last 2 days making 45 sales calls with almost zero interest. I've sent out some emails, and had 1 guy call back this morning asking a little more about it but he wants to wait 3 weeks. I don't know if it's how I'm approaching it, the people I'm approaching, the network I've got or what, but selling links hasn't worked out yet. Putting the network up on a broker network won't pay bills today.

I don't have any problems putting in the work. I'm using the network to link my own sites right now, and will continue to but that payoff is still 60+ days away.

Are there any avenues for making money today that I may not be thinking about? I don't plan on retiring from the income, but even $1500 a month would get the monkey off my back and let me develop my sites.

If you need some cash and you have some available time, then think about connecting with businesses that need your services. You can get paid well and quickly but you need to do some assessing of what skills you can bring to the marketplace. People/businesses will pay well for:

    website design
    writing
    SEO
    graphic design
    copywriting

Those are just some ideas....Don't sell yourself short with limited-revenue sites like Fiverr. You need to make decent cash now. Once you've determined your skill sets, you can reach out to companies either directly or those that advertise online (such as Craigslist).

It may take a little bit of time to build momentum, but if you can deliver good service (and overdeliver whenever possible), you can develop a steady base of customers. Good luck!

      Hey Michael, Thanks for replying.

I can do SEO, build sites and write articles. I've been on CL looking for SEO jobs that I've applied for, but still no dice. I gotta get out from under this contractor, and get back to being able to pay my bills again.

What types of companies should I be looking for to offer my services? Do you have any specifics on how to separate the weed from the chaff? Where would you begin to get that rolling?

It does help. A friend does $250 sites on CL but won't tell me how much he makes doing it.

Thanks Steve, I'll read it now.

Coach, it sounds interesting. The only downside is the time. My girl's job doesn't make the difference in what we need so we are on borrowed time. Even 3 months would break us. I don't know anyone who could help financially, and I wouldn't ask if I did, so PPC is almost out of the question without some guarantees. That guarantee thing doesn't work so well with what we do. With Winter coming up, work is almost guaranteed to get even slower. I'm not proud of what's happened, but it is what it is and I'm trying to fix it.

Ideally, something that would get me paid within 15 days is what I am after. I don't mind busting my arse to get the money. I'm going to read that article. Thank you again ya'll for your replies. I want to fix this situation.

Banwork (Below) All of this together, I am starting to get an idea together. Is there some recommended resource for offering services to business owners? SEO is a tough sale, but the website design stuff wouldn't be too bad to do.

You sound like you already have some very marketable skills. You can easily turn those into your own high priced coaching or service business and charge upwards of $500 per sale. That would mean you only need 3 sales a month to hit your goal. Or one every ten days.

With your niche and ranking skills you could get that setup and with only a 1% conversion rate . . . . You would only need ten visitors a day to your offer.

The simple way to start using these strategies people have suggested is to approach the people and businesses that need them directly. See a website for a local business that is awful? Offer to help them with it. Make the approach personal and through social media to get the best response. Find out exactly what they need, why they need it, and how you can charge for it.

Do people buy blog networks? I just thought about it over dinner, if I had to get rid of something it is something that I can rebuild when I have the money again.

I am getting up in the morning and hitting a list of 38 businesses I put together that have junk sites. Hopefully that will drum something up.

How do I "thank" you guys, too?

Good luck, insuranceguy! There's lots of businesses out there with junk sites....Look also at businesses that have simple 1 page business sites setup by directory sites like yp.com. Not only can you provide them a much nicer site but you can also save them a lot of money as they're currently paying a lot for these sites.

Headed out. I'll report back later today.

Michael, do you know of a footprint I could use to search these types of sites out in my area? I tried doing some digging to find them, but I don't know what it is that I'm looking for. That sounds like a good niche I could work with, though. Simple sale.

Also, any of ya'll know if people are selling blog networks? I've searched here and BHW but can't find much info on where to start looking for buyers.

          insuranceguy...

Ok, if you put the following into Google, it will give you ALL sites:

"All rights reserved. YP, the YP logo and all other YP marks contained herein are trademarks of YP Intellectual Property LLC and/or YP affiliated companies. All other marks contained herein are the property of their respective owners."

So what you want to do is limit your search by adding your area of interest.

So if you wanted to look in Miami, Florida, you would enter:

"All rights reserved. YP, the YP logo and all other YP marks contained herein are trademarks of YP Intellectual Property LLC and/or YP affiliated companies. All other marks contained herein are the property of their respective owners." + "miami, florida"

Play around with it a little but you now have a good starting point to work with...Have fun!

Well, no luck today. I got a couple people talking, but it wasn't too organized.

Dude, Michael, I just pulled up a bunch of sites. That's where I'm focusing tomorrow. So sick!

I'm also going to be putting an ad on up Craigslist (Any resources for help? Is it feasibly possible to get gigs on CL?) to try to get the phone ringing. This is the advertisement I put together... any suggestions?

    * Check out local businesses and offer them to make a website and/or a social media presence (facebook etc.). You will be surprised how many businesses don't have a site or have a "under construction" site or websites which need serious improvement. Keep the price reasonable since many businesses today are struggling.

    * Offer services such as writing or submissions or social media management.

    * ALWAYS keep and try to expand your connections and relations with clients. Especially in the writing business or if you provide any type of service, a LOT of your business will be worth of mouth (one client recommends you to another etc.) or repeat business. The more you are active in social circles, the better. This also includes forums and similar.

    insuranceguy,

Been there, and I can save you A LOT of time right now. Hone your sales skills, anything you can't do yourself you can outsource and double the price. You need to use a script when prospecting for new clients over the phone and you need to constantly adjust it to work harder and harder for you. Have a niche but offer it all.

To get some immediate cash flow, you can sign up for oDesk and seoclerks. You never know when you might luck into exactly the right client who is willing to pay top dollar for your services - I'm in negotiations right now with a company that posted a job on oDesk, and I'm submitting a proposal for full service SEO with a lot of add-ons. Will be high-dollar and ongoing.I wish you luck!

Burning the oil, and just had a thought about tomorrow morning. Is $499 too low? It is roughly 6 months of YellowPages lowest sites, which I'm thinking these businesses have.

I feel like $899 would be too high, even if they do plan on being in business another 12 months it just feels like they could do the $99 deal on Craigslist, or at least start shopping around. $699 feels a bit steep to me too. Am I selling myself short in this situation? I'm not trying to be greedy, but leaving money on the table if I don't have to isn't something I'm fond of.

If anyone wants to offer some advice on this script, it would be greatly appreciated. I'm going to email them the ad I put together earlier: http://i.imgur.com/0ZmR56x.png

Hey, how are you doing today?
    - Them

    INTRODUCTION

My name is, and I saw that your website is hosted by Yellow Pages... are they charging you a monthly fee?
    - Let them talk.

    FIND OUT WHAT THEY WANTED

You were just wanting a basic site, right? How long ago was that site built?
    - Let them talk.
    * Do the math for them, $89 per month for XXX months.

    GET THEM DOUBTING THEIR SITE

What do you feel like your website should do for your customers? Does yours accomplish that?
    - Let them talk.

    TELL THEM WHO I AM

I am a freelance web designer that specializes in rebuilding Yellow Pages type sites. These sites lack the professionalism that most businesses require, and are not kept up to date with the latest advancements with search engines and the internet. I help businesses like your own save money, and bring their website up to date at an affordable price.

    GET RID OF THE FEE

Instead of paying them a fee every month, I can build you a site that is designed to funnel customers into calling you, provide easy visitor tracking, social integration, basic onpage and offpage seo, and I will host the website for free, for life. I use my hosting accounts for your site, so your monthly fees disappear.

    DOWN TO THE PRICE

The price is $499 (which is XXX months what you're paying YP right now) with a 50% up front refundable deposit and remaining 50% upon completion. I will send you an outline of the work that I will complete before you send the deposit. After the deposit is made we will do an initial consultation to determine exactly what type of design you're looking for.

I'm easy to work with, so a revision or two isn't a problem. I'm a small business owner, too, so if it comes to where we just can't work together I will refund 100% of your money. I haven't had to do this so far but I just wanted to get it out there. I accept payment through PayPal so you are provided with extra insurance on our transaction.

    QUESTIONS FOR ME

    Did you have any questions?

    ASSUME THE CLOSE

Great, we can get started today. My PayPal email is ########### Again, once I receive the deposit we can begin going over the design and help your customers find you!

OBJECTIONS -- DIG IN BUT LET THEM EFFING TALK -- STFU AND LISTEN

    - Are you showing up on the first page of the search engines when customers want to find your services?

    - Is your website putting your best foot forward, design wise?

    - Do you keep in touch with your customers and clients through social networking?

    - Do you know how many people visited your website last month?

    THANK THEM AND HANG UP
