Is the Adsense/advertising route a more viable option?

Hey guys,

So I was just wondering if the whole Adsense/advertising way of doing business a better way of doing business...

I'd love to hear about any of your experiences.

I read that it's all about getting a ton of traffic, and I mean a TON.

Is this a more viable option if say, I don't want to deal with creating products, marketing, copywriting and the likes? That I prefer to just keep creating content?

Thanks.

I kept having trouble with my page quality rank. It caused the bid rate to go up so it wasn't worth it to me. I found it funny that they restrict your ad so much that it barely says anything then when you point to a detail page, it doesn't match the ad so your quality is down. I'm having much better luck on Facebook.

I don't know about "better". It wouldn't be, for me. It's a totally different way of doing business, though - that's for sure.

The two biggest issues, it seems to me, are ...

    (i) AdSense is a totally Google-dependent and therefore risky business to build, and ...

(ii) With AdSense, you get paid when people leave your site rather than wanting them to stay there for as long as possible, so you need a totally different sort of site with totally different objectives for your visitors (obviously).

It depends what you mean by "marketing". If you include "traffic attraction" as part of "marketing" (which in our online context, people often do), then it certainly isn't a more viable option, for most. To me, some of what you've just said is part of my reasons for preferring affiliate marketing to being a product manufacturer/vendor, but none of it would be a reason to use AdSense. Just my perspective.

This is my personal opinion . . . others will tell you differently.

I think Adsense is a lousy business model. You would be much better off with your own product (even if you have to license one, outsource it, or sell other people's products.)

The Adsense "way of doing business", as you call it, means you have to have tons of traffic (a bad thing for a newbie), you get tiny commissions (another bad thing), and the traffic leaves your site for your commission (another bad thing.)

In my humble opinion, it's a very poor business model. Some do make money with it, but that is not their primary source of income in almost all cases.

Get a real business going where you build a list, offer valuable products or services, and get paid in terms of dollars rather than pennies.

    Good luck to you,
