If you content is copyright protected, then send the DMCA Letter.

Well, I know it sounds really pis**** when we find that someone is just using my hard work without my concern....

    Regards

Contact their host (They use hostgator.com... and an anonymous registration tool) with a DMCA letter. Do this today. Find out if they have any affiliate links, etc., and contact them as well.

I google random phrases from my blog once a week and find my stuff copied all the time. In almost every case, a contact to the owner of the site works. Especially if you mention lawyers.

How to prevent it? I haven't found a way that works yet. But the sites usually get shut down pretty quick.

WOW, this is funny, they are taking your information and rewoding it, maybe even using an article spinner..

One thing for sure is you can't stop them if they haven't exactly duplicated any part or portion of your contet.

Aslo Never forget to add a copyright to your site, disclaimer and Privacy Policy.

I was having wondering about this myself. A friend of mine Blogs almost everyday and one day we noticed that another person had copied all his stuff.

Good to know there is a way to stop this!

Are there fees involved when you add copyright your site?

Copyright is one of the most misunderstood concepts out there. People who tell you that you have to register copyright usually don't know what they're talking about.

The moment you write something original down on a piece of paper, with no pre-existing conditions (like you're writing it for work, etc.), you own the copyright. The hard part is proving it.

The good thing about DMCA is that it shifts the burden to the host. They have to take it down, or you have an action.

Simple way to prove copyright ownership.

Send a copy of original material to yourself in registered or recorded post - don't open the envelope until there is a dispuste and then ONLY in front of a legal representative who has an acceptable witness.

You might not like what I say - but I believe it.
Build it, make money, then build some more
Some old school smarts would help - and here's to Rob Toth for his help. Bloody good stuff, even the freebies!

The "poor man's copyright" is a common myth.

How do they know you didn't mail yourself an unopened envelope and put whatever you want in it at some later date?

You could mail it so that the flap side gets postmarked, hopefully across the seal. But, even then, how is one to know you didn't lightly seal it just to get the postmark across the "sealed" envelope and then, again, stuff whatever you want into it at a later date and carefully seal it?

As such, I don't think the "poor man's copyright" would ever hold up in court.

If you're going to go through all that trouble, you might as well spend the money to register your copyright so you're certain you have protection.

Dan's content is irregularly read by handfuls of people. Join the elite few by reading his blog: dcrBlogs.com, following him on Twitter: dcrTweets.com or reading his fiction: dcrWrites.com but NOT by Clicking Here!

Dan also writes content for hire, but you can't afford him anyway.

I just want to thank everybody here for their support, I also have some good news, I contacted the blog owner via the comments area on the blog and he/she was professional enough to accept the mistake and suspend the blog with a big announcement on the home page.

Oh wow, good for you. I only just saw this and yes it looks like she has deleted all her posts and has a message about it on her home page. I wonder if she outsourced her articles and her writer has copied yours!
