Affiliate site - a few questions

Hello all

And so I am progressing my first affiliate site and I will be using nootropics as my niche. I have found a reputable supplier that i have dealt with but they have never sold via an affiliate scheme but are happy to start it off with me so im ok with that.

I know that this will be a steep learning curve and I have so many threads from here bookmarked to read, but in an attempt to speed this up I was wondering if you could give me a steer on the following please.

I will be using Wordpress on a self hosted domain but I can also use Joomla if a website is better for the purpose.

1) For an affiliate site is there an optimal theme to use. I quite like the way the menu bar in this sample but can't find it in any templates, Do you guys know where I can get this?

2) The affiliate will send a physical product and so for content I was thinking of around 30 posts each giving focus to a particular product. I was wondering in terms of Google however that you rank better for updated content. Is this a big problem to stick at around 30 posts?

3) List building: I was going to produce a free nootropics report and use aweber to manage my lists. I am unsure as yet whether to use a landing page or an opt in on the site. Do you guys favour a particular method?

Thanks

I'm a bit interested in Nootropics myself, so I'd be curious to hearing more about your reputable supplier. Feel free to pm me.

As far as your theme goes, Personally I fill a particular theme doesn't matter too much, just make sure it is uncluttered and easy to navigate.

Hi Get back. My supplier is UK based and I don't think they ship to the US because of the customs issue but I will ask.

In the meantime, I do have a supplier who are based in the US if you would like that?

An absolutely fascinating niche, and I wish you well with it. I see with some misgivings that you're planning to promote a physical product, and hope and trust you're intending to start by taking some very good, relevant, well-informed legal advice, as this can be a minefield with "all the accidents out there, just waiting to happen". I think it would be unwise indeed to assume that a "mere affiliate" can't have potential legal liability, in this respect.

Very much so, I think - with some locational and legal difficulties, as well as the potential for problems over dealing with a vendor who's never previously had affiliates. I admit I'd be too concerned about it, myself, to try it.

It's comparatively unimportant. Your income will depend primarily on your list-building skills and techniques.

I strongly suspect that without an opt-in, you'll barely earn a penny from this niche.

You need either a landing page with an opt-in (or possibly even a squeeze page, though that certainly wouldn't be my own choice).

Here are some posts/threads which may help you ...

Yes, I will be taking advice before going into this and if it looks to problematic, I could just as easily write and promote my own digital product. There is also a CB product if needed.

I understand what you mean about using a vendor who has not yet had an affiliate. However. I have used the company before and have been more than heppy with the responses to my mails to them and so am prepared to start slowly with them and perhaps build a long term relationship.

I have no list building skills at all as yet.... but I will have :-)

I think I didn't explain myself to well here about opt ins. I will have an opt in but was unsure of which method to use... I don't like squeeze pages and prefare landing page with opt in.

I have some of the above reading bookmarked already and they are on my 'to read' list

      Thanks Alexa

How would you recommend handling the legal side of selling nootropics as an affiliate? Also, what other sources othe than click bank and offervault can I use to find out if this niche answers 3 vital questions:

      1. Are there always offers to promote in this niche?
      2. Are people who are interested in this niche known to buy?
      3. Can I market to this niche in a profitable way?

Currently I haven't seen many offers available on clickbank. Im assuming this is due in part to the nature of nootropics being a tangible good vs.an informaton product.

I am considering "niching up" and building a list in the Success/ Self-help niche and mailing my general list to opt-in to a separate "nootropics" sub niche. Thats one way of reverse egineering the process of niche popularity! At least those who opt-in are hyper targeted leads.
Thanks for your input, and I hope to hear from you soon.
      Sincerely,
      An internet marketing novice

Did you succeed in building a solid list with a good portion of buyers yet? I'm thinking about beginning in this niche since I'm fascinated by nootropics myself, but i was hard pressed to find any relevance in the market through clickbank and offervault.
Thanks, and either way I wish you success!
