Amazon Affiliate Alternatives?

I have been into IM for a while and have tried several different affiliate programs but I feel like none of them really compare to Amazon when it comes to options for products that people can sell. Unfortunately, I live in North Carolina, and Amazon does not accept affiliates from my state, which eliminates Amazon as a possibility. Does anyone know of a way for me to get around this rule or a program very similar to Amazon? I have tried Clickbank, CJ, and Linkshare, but it's just not the same as Amazon.

I had the same problem. I live in Illinois, another state Amazon doesn't allow affiliates in.

Once my Amazon affiliate account was terminated I tried everything: buy.com, Barnes & Noble, Linkshare, Commission Junction. No luck. Never made a sale on any of them. My niche was ebooks, eReaders, etc, and for a while I had a parenting blog so I promoted baby stuff and kid's toys.

The only other program I had any "success" with was promoting ebooks by indie authors on Smashwords. But I only recently got my first commission payment after 2 years.

Don't get discouraged though. Just because I had bad luck with the other programs doesn't mean you will. A lot of people do really well using the programs I listed above. I think my problem was I didn't have the traffic on my blogs to generate sales. Once I lost Amazon, I only made money off of Adsense.

Sorry, I wish I could offer you better advice.

I am currently trying ebay in one of my niches but I will have to wait for the niche to take off before I see if Ebay is very effective.

The Illinois Amazon tax law was recently thrown out. Good to know. Although I don't live there anymore, I actually prefer Ebay, at least I always made money daily there with my website.

Try Clickbank and eBay. I am not an affiliate of them but many people say that they earn money from these two.

Yes, former Amazon Associates from Illinois should be aware that the law that resulted in their ban was thrown out a couple of weeks ago and Amazon has been quoted in a couple of news articles as saying they'll be reinstating Illinois affiliates soon. Hopefully, this will become a trend.

depends what type of products you want to promote.

    What is your niche?

Do a search for "(your marketplace) affiliate program" and see what comes up you might be able to find some good ones.

Also, I've seen lots of different guides on here that have a list of a whole bunch of different affiliate programs

This is solid advice. I've done this with success in the past. There are numerous companies that have affiliate programs, but don't offer them through marketplaces like CJ or Amazon. Some don't even advertise an affiliate program.
So within your niche, try the search above. Further, look into some specific companies that you know of within that niche and look for 'affiliates' or 'advertise with us' on their websites.

Often some good advantages to going this route as well. Can be higher commissions, less hassles, fast approval, plus a lot of marketing support.

Clickbank is okay but I find that a lot of the products are low quality so it limits the options of what you can promote. I think eBay has a great affiliate program and they've really gotten their act together in the past few years to keep up with Amazon. They aren't just about auctions anymore, they are becoming a major player in the online retail space. Try them out and see how you do. Good luck.

    • You need to check out Skimlinks | Affiliate marketing made easy - content monetization | Skimlinks

there is another site like skimlinks that I'll try and find I can't remember it off the top of my head.

But basically what you do is run Amazon through Skimlink's account and they take a percentage, but you also benefit from SkimLink's high volume affiliate level so its basically a wash. Doesn't matter where you live.

If you don't want to use SkimLinks just sit tight - that tax law is a bunch of crap so hang in there, it will be reversed soon enough. Amazon is going to take over the world I just read they are starting Sunday deliveries.

I found it, the other one is Viglink

      Good luck

Just skimmed through the replies and was surprised to see that no one has said commission junction they have many vendors that offer physical products like amazon with competitive rates.

I use Commission Junction, Amazon, and ebay. Amazon destroys all other affiliate programs (at least in my experience). I struggle to get sales on the other services, but Amazon takes no effort convincing people to buy. I get about 1 sale on the others to every 1000 sales on amazon.

    What's your IM strategy?

I use paid advertising like google, facebook, bing, etc & shareasale works great for me. Higher commissions & generally better sales when compared to Amazon.

    That's my experience anyway.

Really, I tried many programs (when Amazon closed my first account), but finally, I must come back and live with it in 2 years ago, still safe than Adsense.

    Hi there

I am just wondering why you would want to promote amazon affiliate products when selling your own products is far more profitable and much easier.
