Does your site ever attract the wrong prospects?

I have a membership site that is attracting the wrong crowd.

The site is built around the theme of military strategy and game theory applied to marketing warfare.

It's getting members, but they are all Russian.

Is there any way to keep this from happening?

Set something like ip blocking or geotargeting. Something to tell them that this offer is not available in your region.

    Have a great day.

Quite the contrary. My advice is find a Russian translator and enter a potentially lucrative niche!

Yeah, what is so wrong about attracting Russians. Think about it this way:1. They know English, or else they would not be there, so the Russian translation is irrelevant. They would not go online to see your webpage if they did not understand it all. 2. You have a crowd. Period. Would you prefer having none?

    As they said above:
    1. Either you want a new target group, other than Russian, something must be wrong and you need to try and fix it. Start with geotargeting and see what happens.
    2. Either you simply want visitors, so it does not matter where they come from.
It seems to me you have to reconsider your options ;-)

As it was previously mentioned, you should try geotaging. But why do you want Russians to stop visiting your site?

Umm, because I don't know anything about Russians, what they want or think, or how to sell to them. Not to mention I really don't want to learn cyrillic, in a really bad way.

You might need a translator, as generally Russians don't know English...

I'm starting to think I'm going to communicate with them better than I can with those who speak English.

I don't understand why you worry about having to learn Russian. Sorry if my previous comment sounded aggressive or something, it was not my intention. All I was saying was that you already have some visitors who clearly understand what you are saying. You do not need to change the language. You are making yourself understood. In fact, maybe you are making such a great point that a group of Russian students are making marketing warfare papers off your web page. If you dislike it so much, make the service unavailable in their region and there you have it. Foreign people use information from websites in English because the information is better than the one offered in their national Internet pages.
