Help-My Email!

Hello,

I have been having a problem. I sometimes recieve emails from 'me' to 'me'--that is I am the sender and recipient.

Just yesterday, I got an email from a friend but today I he told he didn't send the email. I showed him the email i got the message from and he confirmed it is his email.

He said he went to his sent folder but didn't find anything of that sort there. I also don't see the messages in the case where I am the sender and recipient of the messages.

Has anyone experience this here or could this be a case of email hacked?

How can I resolve this?

I use gmail and is there a way gmail could help out?

Someone should please help with useful tips.

    Hi, It could mean your account as been hacked. So initially you should change your password, and see if that makes a difference. Secondly you should do a full virus scan on your pc. Sometimes a virus can send a file which can gain information and install itself on others pc's too. So meaning the virus can send emails at will. If you don't have a virus program you can get a decent one for free at AVG. I have never had this problem with gmail, but have had it with hotmail. Anyway, hope that helps a little. Post how you get on.

      It doesn't normally mean that at all: most of the time this has nothing to do with hacking.

      Changing your password is something you should do regularly anyway, for security reasons, but typically has nothing to do with this problem at all. However, people who have missed the point will doubtless continue to advise you to "change your password" in spite of the fact that that isn't what this is about.

      Typically it's just a "spoofing", automated spammers' trick to (a) make you open it out of curiosity and/or (b) make it unattractive/difficult for you to "report the email as spam", which might eventually get the spammer into trouble.

      Such emails are not going to be legitimate, when you haven't sent them yourself, and for most people there's no reason to open them. Doing so may even confirm to a spammer that your email address is attended.

    Change your password and clear your inbox of potential malicious emails. Also have a computer scan and if there is no change, report to gmail your problem. I hope it goes well for you!

    You can change your password, and mark the emails as spam, but it's very easy to send e-mail from a email address you don't own with a php script, maybe someone or a hacker try to get confidential informations about you

    It's somebody sending an e-mail using SMTP, and putting your friends address in the from field. I'd say that your friend should change their password, and so should you if you're getting the same.

    It seems to be an error of some kind, hacking is certainly not the reason. But for safety you should immediately back up all your important data so you won't lose it.

    The same thing happened to me on my email address, and I received messages from my colleagues' email addresses without them sending any. The emails did not appear in their accounts either. Our IT guy checked the accounts and he said it was a bug or something that sent messages automatically. We had to reinstall the operating system, the antivirus and everything else on our computers. I hope it won't be your case.
    However, I think it is just a software that some guys use for spamming to send emails without being tracked.
