Id like to start my own Handicapping/handicappers for NFL and College sports. Anyone has any experience or ideas. This would be a day, weekly and a monthly membership/pass site, where we would pick out he winners in different sports.

Looking for pros and cons feedbacks.

Thanks

We pick the winners on daily, weekly, and monthly passes. Having a consistent record is everything in this biz but my problem will be driving the bettors to my site.

Great industry to get into Hensy!

I just did some initial research for you, and there is a TON of opportunities for you in this space.

To kick things off... I would recommend targeting "Sports Picks" instead of "Handicappers"

Sports Picks = 1,600 Searches with Low competition

Sports Handicappers = 880 Searches with Medium Competition

That being said, you should start with doing some searches using the root phrase "Picks" or "Sports Picks" and start paying attention to the (paid advertisers)

The reason you want to do this, is because they are the guys MAKING the money.

Start going to a few dozen of their sites... and see what they're selling.

Are they selling a 1 time product?

    Are they selling a software?

Are they selling a membership site?

Once you see what the commonality is between them, you'll be able to travel down a proven road to profits... rather than trying to "figure it out"

    Good Luck out there!

Great info. Yeh we would have to target "sport Picks". We will not be selling 1 time product, or software, this is are hand picked winners in NFL and College Football and NBA and Hoops.

I use to be a bettors and if you pick right winner there is a great return on your bet. Now I want to be providing this service on a low package, there are lot of website charging 100s on a day, week and monthly pass for this service.

    Henish,

Fantastic! Offering hand picked winners in NFL, NBA & College is a massive industry.

You're going to love the journey!

To circle back to your original question then..

I would personally make it a Monthly Membership site.

As for pricing.. see what your top competitors who are doing a ton of advertising, and model what they're doing (to get started).

Thanks for encouragement! Yes, I am leaning toward Monthly Membership.

Sports handicapping is a really good market to be in. The only thing is, you have to be consistent in picking the winners over the long run. First, you need a good looking website where you can offer your service and I think EZcapper could help you with that. They provide great turnkey or custom designed sports handicapping websites, and also help you with marketing as well.
Good luck with your new business Hensy.

I did check EZcapper out. They seem to have a good product that would fit for my project, but still exploring.

Reputation is obviously everything in this industry. Once you build that up, traffic shouldn't be too hard to come by. You might already know the site Covers.com. I've seen people post free sports picks in the forums, build up a reputation, and then go it alone. Trust and reputation is the only viable way to make it as a sports handicapper. If I google sports handicappers, then it's very unlikely I would buy your service, simply because I have no idea who you are.

Yeh reputation is everything in this biz. Yes, I have heard Covers.com and still follow the forum on the site.

The big potential "con" I see is the great difficulty of establishing any credibility, when most viewers/readers/visitors instinctively wonder why - if you have profitable sports-betting tips - you need to sell the service at all (and make all the prices/values so much worse, when they're inevitably self-adjusting in inverse proportion to the weight of money going on them as people bet).

People will naturally wonder why you wouldn't simply use the information yourself, not devalue it in the betting markets, and make your living that way.

I'd think it would be absolutely imperative to have a really convincing answer to this almost universal objection. It's a little like selling "forex signals": if they can actually be used profitably, why ever would you need to sell them at low prices to a bunch of strangers?

There's a huge "credibility gap" there, and without somehow completely bridging it, it's possible to attract only the most gullible of people, to whom that rather obvious/instinctive reaction never even occurs at all?

I see your point about the value. Something to think about.

Alexa, this is not a hard one to answer. The reason that he can still maintain his credibility is because he would already have placed his bet or bets on the particular pick or picks that he recommends to others. If the price moves, then it does not matter for him because his bets would already have been placed. Of course it would matter for those who are purchasing the picks, but the price could move favorably for the buyers of the picks also.

It is not hard to see that he can make money on both his bets and the service he is selling. If he loses the bet, he will still be making money on the service he sells.

Not hard to see his reasoning for doing this at all.

      Hope this helps...

I use to do the marketing and created the site for a sports handicapper who recently stopped - Sports N Profits | Free Sports Picks – NFL Picks Betting – Sports Betting Picks – Sports N Profits

He was successful, but of course it all depends on if they are providing winning picks or not. One month he might be on a hot streak and get a bunch of sales. But, once he cools off...a lot of members leave.

Since this person stopped, I now have a list of 1,072 emails of sports bettors if you're interested in purchasing. The last email they had me send was on 9/30/2013. It got a little over a 19% open rate.

If you have any other questions about running the site, please let me know.
