Is "researching" a profitable skill online? I love researching and have been doing so since i was 11

Hi guys i was wondering is researching a profitable skill online? I'm looking for an exact skill that i can do freelancing with. People consider my research skills way above average and i'm always the "go to" person when it comes to somebody needing some research, so i was thinking "man it has to be a way i can profit from my research skills online"

I usually research and compile together stuff that i'm interested in everyday for myself , it's like a hobby for me so i would love to make some cash with it if possible ... Also can somebody post a list of learnable online skills for me i would like to know all of the other skills online that people profit from...

Set yourself up as a virtual assistant (VA) specializing in research. You should be able to get a lot of writers as clients.

Cool i never thought about that one... What else would my researching skills come in handy for (profit wise)? Like who else online would need researching other than writers?

If you are also a good writer (and I kind of assume you are), you can actually sell your well-researched articles or blog posts as a one-stop-shop. No need to complicate things.

For example, a lot of solo professionals need regular well-researched and accurate material for their websites, and you could offer to do it for them.

        Good luck!

  • Hi,

How exactly do you research apart from using searchengine ?
I'm a student programmer and I am trying to build artificial intelligent bots (automation tools).
If I can learn your research tactic then I might be able to pour the knowledge to the bots for them to research likewise and give you a kick in your stomache. You know, sort of like when the machine was invented the workers lost their jobs. Na! Only kidding! You can always use the bot to research for you on autopilot so you don't have to manually. Ofcourse, it won't be as good as a human's research but you can later check the data it has harvested. It can save you a lot of manual work if not all.
Now, what is your research tactic which you can afford to reveal here for free without any strings attached ? Lol!

    Take care!

PS - Use Youtube, Yahoo Answers and other Social Networks for researching etc. on your customers' topics.

Yes, I know people who aren't that good in research and who are looking for people like you. Academic papers, simple articles or even homework. Yes, people are willing to pay for your skill.

Look into Google Helpouts which rolled out not too long ago. It is growing in online visibility. Take some time to look at some of the service providers on there. Then develop your profile. People want to learn how to research effectively and you can charge them while working with them in real time....Good luck!

    • It is if you can hire someone to do the actual research. Don't put yourself in a situation where you can't scale because you are trading time for money. The big money is done through scale.

I'd recommend niching down and starting a business around it. Otherwise you are just another odesker trading time for money.

      Good luck

There are lots of researchers and researcher jobs on oDesk. Trouble is it's really a low end skill and you'll be competing with Filipino VA's who will work for $5 a day or less.

I guess the secret here would be to be in a specific niche (medical?), or have access to data that's not on the web, or do you own research and compile your findings into a niche site (lists of car breaking yards in Nevada, that kind of thing).

I think you'd have to be able to do specialized research to be able to make a lot of money this. What sets you apart from others who do research. Maybe you could develop a business of researching topics for students writing papers. just give them a list of sources and take notes from the sources for them.

Researching is definitely a profitable skill, and if you have good writing skills lazy college kids and online students will pay an easy $200 for a good essay or report.

Your target market should be college kids and bloggers who hire writers to do the blogging for them.
