It all depends on what you are trying to advertise.

Very difficult to give you advice without knowing which product or service you are marketing.

Right now, I would consider using Facebook if you know your niche and your customer well. If you do some homework, you can get real good pricing on leads.

I had the most success (by FAR) with FaceBook ads, but it really does depend on what you're trying to advertise... I'd say social stuff such as games/blogs/coupons/offers 'sell' best on FB, business-oriented ads work best on ad networks such as Adwords.

    Just my 2 cents

Remember always to a LOT of research before starting with paid advertising. Or you can say goodbye to your $5k really quickly and without much of an effect.

It depends TOTALLY on what you are trying to achieve and what you are advertising.

Even FB Ads don't work on every case.

What ever you do: start small, test different sources / versions, optimize accordingly and scale up.

As said above it's difficult to give suggestions without knowing the product/service, but yes I would agree that facebook ads will probably give you the most 'bang for your buck'.

If you are selling a product you might also consider putting some of the budget into setting up an affiliate program.

  • It really depends on what your project is. You should first of all put together a marketing mix and then allocate a budget to each type of marketing material.

If I have that sort of money I will spend it on Facebook and Google. I will test it first with small budget and use advanced options to get more targeted traffic.

Honestly, I've bought ads on close to 80 networks and spent close to $2mil over the last few years (for clients) and when I have my own money to work with on a project I keep it simple.

        1. Developing good quality content (first in the places that matter on site, then for blog)
        2. Spend money on hiring a great SM distributor

Build social value/presence/voice and dont buy ads until you are confident in your consumer response.

It's not sexy, but more effective.

Not sure what kind of product or service you are marketing.
I would say it all depends on what you are trying to advertise.

you would be silly not to use this on PPC.

The big wigs in IM do not sit down and comment on blogs and do articles all day. LOL. if u think this is what they do you have rocks in your head.

I know a guy who makes about $1000 a day in a stupid niche, but he puts 35% of all his profits back into PPC. Free traffic is where it is at to pay your bills, but PAID traffic is where it is at if you want to absolutely KILL IT ONLINE. And I mean absolutely KILL IT.

Even if you had much less than $5k I would throw it into PAID TRAFFIC definatly, and start building a list.

I'd pay people $1 to $2 each to write articles for you if you are in a high-content niche that is not too competitive. It's up to you to do the research and figure that out. Do NOT spend the money on PPC unless you already have a good idea of your ROI. This is supremely stupid advice. If you blow your 5K on this, you certainly deserve to lose it all.

Advertizing is the key fot a successful business. Sometimes, you may need to spend some to win some. Of course, it all depends on your expectations and your needs.
The question is: are YOU ready to pay this money? Decide what you want to do and you will find the answer yourself.
