Forum Marketing Tips

Hey guys. I am focusing on learning everything I can about forum marketing this week.
Does anyone do a lot of it to promote their products?

I have been doing a little bit lately and have had some success when I PMed people. Also, I have learned that people hate it when you come across as promoting a product. LOL

What are you biggest tips for anyone new to Forum Marketing?

    Be yourself..

    And focus on networking rather than selling.

    You have to gain people's trust before they will
    buy from you.

    And yes....do not go PMing everyone...not good
    spamming peoples mail boxes.

    It takes work, focus determination and commitment.

    Keep learning and getting to know people...

          Shoot me an email and I'll forward you an excellent guide to forum marketing penned by a friend of mine (no charge of course, lol!) I have found it to be VERY helpful and it just so happens that I have Master Rights to it : )

            Okay, after seeing your reply offering advice on forum marketing, seeing your user ID, it is your first post here, and your sig... I couldn't help but laugh out loud. I just struck me as very funny.

            PS Yes, I know not all forum marketing is branding yourself. Yes, I understand I haven't branded myself. Yes, I understand you didn't write the thing and were just offering free help. I just struck me as funny, that's all.

            I will say your user ID does kind of jump out with the dollar signs in it. However, what if everyone started doing that... that would get obnoxious quick. Also, it seems to mess with the forum a little when trying to quote you and post your sig. ($ is a special character)

            PPS I am not saying you are not a helpful or useful human being... just saying it was a convergence of things that made it funny.

      Here are my tips.

      1. Contribute to the community but when you first start out, don't step on
      toes. Be respectful of the long time members. I am not considering myself
      as one of them.

      2. Don't spam. Read the rules on signature links. No ads are allowed except
      in the WSO forum. If you're going to post a WSO, wait until you've been a
      member for a while and have contributed.

      3. Don't get into arguments. You can discuss things passionately, but being
      rude and inconsiderate of others won't be tolerated.

      4. Help others who need help if you can. Certainly there is no obligation, but
      the more you help and the more you give, the more you will receive in
      return.

      5. Not everybody is going to agree with you and like you. Don't let those
      people get to you and don't let them drive you away. If they offer good
      advice, even if served with a spoon of vinegar, digest it, think it through
      and see if you agree with it in the long run. If you do, apply it to your
      business.

      6. Read as much as you can here. Sadly, the old forum is gone and with
      it some incredible threads on marketing. But there is new stuff being added
      all the time. The education you can get here is priceless.

      That's all I can think of for now. I'm sure others will have more to
      contribute.

        Umm there are more forums than the Warriors Steve, I think he was asking in general (not just for this one). Some of the Warrior rules don't apply to all forums

    Join the community. Actually JOIN it. Make useful posts, make funny posts, make humorous posts, make dumb posts. Become a personality there.

    Make sure your signature links are live

    READ THE RULES: I mod a few places and so many fail outright on this. Attracting the attention of a moderator while you're new... bad form. They won't forget.

    FOLLOW THE RULES: Again, common sense. Trying to break a bend or rule won't go unnoticed forever, and again it will put you in a moderator's radar and you may not be lucky enough to get one who will forgive and forget. Don't make your signature in accordance to their rules then adjust against them later and expect nothing to happen. That sig is your backlinks and possible traffic source. You don't want your signature disable for a stupid mistake like that.

    Make sure you're there long enough to see if the forum allows affiliate links in the body of the post. Some don't allow any live linking. Some places, like here, will have members tell you in replies to edit your affiliate link to a normal one. This goes back to the Rules again.

    Don't Double Post. Aside from being viewed as signature spam it also makes you come off looking stupid because you couldn't find that Edit button to simply correct your original post located in the same box your post is in.

    This isn't rocket science. Most of it I think is common forum etiquette, but in my experience that's as lacking in common sense these days.

    Just be honest in your response. If you post a new thread, try to make it intriguing. People are here to learn new and valuable pieces of information.

    I also find forum marketing works best if you have a real interest in the niche. Try making threads and joining a cooking or recipe community when you know next to nothing about either. Very hard, and it will feel like work.

    Posting on forums isn't supposed to be or feel like work. If it did I think there'd be a lot fewer of us here every day.

      Forum marketing is powerful if you provide good, solid content to the forum. Don't just make one or two word responses to the posts. If you provide value, and if you give good information from time to time people will trust you and will click on the links in your signature. I have personally clicked on many signature links in there, and I know that people have done the same with mine. Just provide good content, or ask good questions and you will be fine. Also, look for forums that have a lot of posts and a lot of traffic. Although smaller forums with less traffic can't hurt if you get a link without the nofollow tag back to your website.
