Where to Place Call-to-Action in My Ebook?

I'm finishing-up an ebook that serves our target market.

I put hours into doing research to make sure it adds a ton of value. I know it does, partly because I was once a part of the target market that our ebook serves.

The ebook will be available for free on our website.

I want to add calls-to-action to the book so that people that appreciate the content can take the next step to becoming clients/customers if they choose.

I was thinking about adding those calls-to-action to the headers or footers of each page in the book (it's 42 pages-long).

I thought this was a good idea, because I wanted to be sure to get the call-to-action in front of every single person that downloads the book...

There will be people that will simply go to the table of contents and won't read the whole book, so putting it in the header of every page of the book was my way of making sure everyone sees it.

Do you think that is overkill? The call to action isn't prompting them to purchase anything; it's simply prompting them to download another report that can help them get more acquainted with us, to potentially take them one step closer to working with us.

So again, do you think putting a call-to-action in the header of each page of the ebook is too much?

I think it's overkill putting a CTA on every page.

If I were in your shoes, I would go about it differently.

I would write a complimentary guide / handbook / etc for your eBook.

I would offer it as a free giveaway in exchange for a name / email.

I would promote your eBook in that free giveaway product.

    Super easy to do...

    You'll be a massive list...

And most importantly, you won't frustrate people reading your rock solid book, by slapping a CTA in front of them, interrupting their consumption.

They already have to enter their name and email address in order to get the ebook to begin-with.

You could do an about the author section and put a call to action in there and maybe a couple other places where it might fit. or on every page have your company name and website. I've seen that in ebooks and that seems to not be too intrusive. That way customers can seek you out for more info. Chris had a great idea too about using it to build your list.

I like the idea about just putting the company name and website there, that seems to make sense. Thanks for that input.

I like to put my call of action in the header of each page of my free ebook, and at the very last page. Works well for me.

One of the biggest issues online these days is blindness. it used to be banner blindness, and adsense blindness, now its Facebook ad blindness. All obstacles to be overcome.

If you put your CTA on every page of your book, it is going to get skipped more often than not.

If you put a couple of calls to action for taking the next step that go to a single page in your ebook, that has a CAT that goes to your website, that might work.

Or if you were willing to write a distinct call to action on every page so that it doesn't fall victim to blindness, that might work too.

Or a mix of header, footer and in text CTA's, that could work great too.

I like the idea of mixing header, footer, and in-text CTA's.

Where can I find a copy of the ebook where you do this? I'd like to see an example of this. I think your ebook's content would appeal to me, anyways, I've read some of your articles and stuff online.

In e-books and reports I'll put CTA's in the header of the title page and at the end in the bonus section. This way it's not a constant in your face bully but just a subtle reminder in areas that are most likely to be seen and in a respectable area.

It does sound a bit invasive to put that call to action on every page. Wouldn't it simply be a natural choice to put it at the end of the table of contents? That way, whoever glances through the book will find it whenever they look for a specific page, and you don't have to worry about it being too much.

    Mrniceguy,

I would sprinkle them throughout, I don't know whether you are going to link it to a webpage of a phone number?

But, place them strategically. If you only give a certain amount of useful information away on one topic, place the 'find out more' after it. You want people to want to find out more. If your content is good, people should be intrigued, from there it is about making it as easy as possible for them to make the purchase - the buy now button should be at the point where they are wanting more.

At the end of the E-Book is a definite.

    Hope this helps,

    Chris

I feel so overwhelmed with having so many options. Is there a such thing as a Call to Action consultant that can advise me through this? It was hard enough putting together a 40 page ebook that provides value to the reader, now I have to think through the placement and direction of where I'm going to send someone with the Call-to-Action.

I understand that part of it is just testing to see what works, but I'd feel much better having some concrete guidance on what to do in this situation from someone that I can explain our business or business goals to that has experience creating/placing Calls-to-Action.

I think it depends what your call to action is really...

In most cases though I would say the best place to place it is at the end of your book but also sprinkle in mention of it here and there inside the body of your content.

To be honest, right now, I'm even a little lost regarding figuring out what the proper call to action should even be. I'd much rather just pay a professional or something. I'm looking through fiverr.com as I speak, but I haven't found anything just yet

The task of running our business combined with it being on my shoulders implementing the strategy of creating an ebook to help boost our business has me ready to pull my hair out. Now I have to think about figuring out coming up with a proper call to action THEN I have to figure out where to put it in the book.

Putting together the book alone took me almost a month, because I put a lot of pride and work into making it valuable to the target market.

Sorry for kinda venting on the message board, going through a lot.

    I need a vacation.

We have all gone through this, this is the place to vent, with folks who understand about juggling all the pieces. And what a nervous time it can be. It will work and it can be done.

I have a special pillow I punch when i get frustrated with some new thing I am doing for the first time.

That pillow just suffers in silence. A lot.

Ha! Yeah, I'm better now, just needed to step away for a sec. Sometimes I have to remind myself that I'm human and need a break every now and then; even if it's only a 15 minute break. :-)

    Hi.

First, congratulations on putting together a valuable piece of free content. I know the kind of effort that takes!

My name is Kristen and I own a company called LaunchMen - we've done all of the super huge launches (Mike Koenigs, Dan Kennedy, Rich Schefren, Ali Brown, AppEmpire, etc.) I'm only telling you this so you have an idea of what kind of experience I've had with CTAs and online marketing.

    Here's my opinion:
Since this is a FREE eBook full of valuable information, the goal is to get as many people to take action as possible and there is nothing wrong with placing a CTA throughout your FREE publication. If this was a paid publication, I would not advise the same thing. I imagine you are operating out of a place of helpfulness and you want to continue to provide help, whether it’s with free content or with paid services and there is nothing wrong with making sure that your CTA is visible.

I suggest you add in a simple CTA that states: Like this eBook? Click Here To Download this Free Report, which "insert benefit statement". I'd add it to the footer of every page, or every other page, depending on your set up (single sheet or 2page spread). If it's a 2 page spread, I would place your URL on the left and your CTA on the right. I think anyone who downloads the FREE eBook expects to see links to other opportunities for more valuable content.

In addition to this, I would probably insert a page, or 1/2 page “ad” in your book, that describes the other FREE download in more detail. I’d place this at the end of your book with a clearly defined button.

In a recent launch for a client, we created a downloadable .pdf that was available during the 3 training videos. Our call to action was to like a Facebook page. We added the link to every page of content and added a CTA button on some pages. It worked really, really well.

    Hope this helps.
