How can you write so much?

I am not a writer, so maybe I just don't get it. I see here that people say that they are writing 4, 5 (or even more) articles a day on their niche, then write blogs, then write comments, etc....

How can you write so much every day? How can somebody write 4, 5 good quality articles on a niche everyday? No matter what your niche is, unless you are writing same thing again and again, how can you do it? am I missing something?

To me, a good article could take days (if not weeks).

Is there anybody who would write stuff for me? I will put your name and link with those articles...

5 articles per day is very little. It shouldn't take you longer than 20 minutes to write a quality article once you know about a topic.

Agree. Since i started writing about 1 niche i can deliver a good number of articles everyday. I am getting good at crossing info and "selling" that niche as I never thought it was possible.

People make good money selling to the rich. But the rich got rich selling to the masses.

Excellent advice and I totally agree. Don't get hung up on the small, minute details -- focus more on the overall impact of the article.

I feel the same way...just put something together that you are knowledgeable about, and sounds professional.

I would like to know this as well. Okay I haven't written a single article as of yet, but I believe if I were to try and write a quality article with proper research done, it would at least take me one whole day.

That's the problem: too much thinking (negatively) and no doing.

If you sit down and just write, you'll be surprised at how easy it often comes out.

Very true. It should never take days to write an article. That's ridiculous. My first article took me two hours. All you do is put your knowledge onto paper (or hard drive rather). The tweak it to be cohesive. And as you write more, you'll learn to tweak it to get clicks in your resource box.
Now, 5-6 articles doesn't take more than a few hours. Try it yourself. It's much easier than you're making it out to be. You don't need to write a doctoral dissertation, just 300-750 words of stuff people want to know.

And for your first article, that's okay. My first article took several days. Over time, it just gets easier. You learn to simplify your research process. You learn to pick topics you don't have to research. You'll start to see the article structure as you research thus eliminating the outline. Your brain will start to change to accommodate your new skill.

Take all the time you need to write your first one. Then think about how you can go a little faster the next time, then the next time after that... once I could write one article in thirty minutes, I started using the timer saying "okay, next time I'll do it in 25". Then as the timer is going, I'll try to beat that 25.

In learning the art of the promotional web article, I've been closely inspecting the techniques discussed by and used by some of the article gurus. Jeff Herring, for instance, makes a good point that most concepts for articles can be broken down into 3 or more articles very easily. You probably won't get any more benefit from a 800 word article than you will from 3x 260 word articles. And most any "7 ways to..." articles can be broken into 7 new ones. So in the time it took you to write that 1 thorough article, you may really have written several.

10 articles a day is about the limit for me.

But you have to keep in mind that these are articles with about 5 or 6 paragraphs on a limited subject. Not a huge in depth piece like something you would find in a magazine.

If you know your niche, you should be able to pump out even more than 10 a day but I find that if I hunch over the keyboard for too long, the quality suffers.

If you use article marketing as part of your strategy, you'll need to spend a lot less than a day on 1 article. But if your goal is to have super quality articles on your website and you have other means of getting traffic to it, than you can take the time.

I think I know my market....my traffic doesn't come from articles...it comes from search engines (I get about 1000 users a day from them), refering sites (PCWorld, CNET, LifeHacker, MSN Tech, etc.) where other people have written reviews about my applications, and direct traffic. But I do feel that I need to start blog/forum, but again, how can I write 10 different blogs/forums everyday on the same thing? If I am just writing about how I woke up in the morning and thought about this and then did that, how can I write so many differnet things every day? If I write 10 articles a day then I am sure most of them are just going to be repetitive. Why would somebody read those? I never do. From all these writing, how much traffic do you actually get?

It's probably just not my thing...

Correct me if I'm wrong, but are you saying that for article marketing, the articles don't have to be of very good quality? I always thought that the better the quality of the articles, the more people would click the links, etc.

I don't know if it is humanly possible. Doesn't matter how skilled a person is how smart he is, who can write 60 good (or even not so good) articles a day? Just because every thought that comes to your mind, and your fingers can transform those to the keyword, doesn't mean that the quality is there.

If you want to write something good then you have to pause, give it a thought. You can't type at 100 wpm and think that the quality is there as well because I am very skilled ful. I don't know what kind of traffic all those articles generate but it can't be a good quality traffic. No offense meant here but it seems as if you've already made your decision about article writing. There have been several responses to this thread explaining how it's done, yet you've decided the opposite is true.

I think the real kicker here is the definition of quality. Cashcow explained it well. By a quality article it is meant to be somewhere in the middle of pulitzer prize winning and total crap.

Think about it this way. What would you tell a friend about a particular subject? Try writing a 300-500 word article in that format and see what happens. That should give you a good starting point.

I think the biggest trick here is to just start writing and stop thinking about it. Just do it.

As far as you saying "it can't be good quality traffic", that couldn't be further from the truth. Your negativity to article marketing has really boxed you into a place where you won't allow yourself to see how good it can be. You're missing out on some great benefits.

Why don't you give yourself 2 hours a day for a week and see how productive you can be. Don't come to the forum - just write.

After a week you will have some personal data and info to base your future in IM on. If you really cannot write - I think you can - then outsource it.

I'm one of those people... I write many articles every day.

I enjoy what I do and I have a vast knowledge on most of the topics that I write about.

      Knowledge is Valuable!

If I do not write articles to record my thoughts, then I am not able to share my ideas with others as easy.

I write and publish articles about my concepts, ideas, and experiences, to help other webmasters learn more about search engine optimization. This keeps me sharp and gives me an opportunity to learn more as fine tune my skills.

Sometimes I can not take my mind off of my work, often when I am away from my computer, I find myself thinking about ideas for articles to write when I return. (I do not expect to run out of good ideas for new article topics anytime soon.)

It seems like the more that I write and learn, the more I enjoying writing and learning.

Like any other skill, writing a whole bunch of articles a day is really quite easy. The hardest part for me is getting started in the morning. I admit to wasting anything up to 20 minutes or so checking emails, etc as soon as my computer boots up, but once I do get started writing it isn't difficult to keep going.

I didn't really mean it that way. What I meant was that the articles don't need to be a Pulitzer prize winning piece of 2000 words that quote all types of industry publications etc.. In fact, I think if they are too long, you might lose the reader but on the other hand you don't want them to be too short so that they are meaningless.

I think the articles need to be well written, but the purpose of the article is to lead the visitor to the bottom and click the link. Therefore it has to be about 1 thing and, hopefully, written in a preselling type of manner. That doesn't really take a lot of research (as opposed to the pulitzer prize winning type of article) and, for me at least takes less time.

    I hope that makes sense.

jkiley - it sounds like you must have a good product - not sure why you think you need to write so many things a day. I think when people usually say that they write a lot of articles a day it is for submitting to article directories (maybe I am wrong about that ?) but it sounds like you are just talking about starting a blog. I don't think you need to write 10 posts to that a day, do you? You could just write 1 or two posts about the benefits of your applications, would that take a long time?

Wow ProductCreator, that's amazing. perhaps you achieved that because you were writing on your own articles along with your own interest and skills.

But if someone gives you keywords on different niche other than your own skills, perhaps that would be a totally different situation. You need to find some time for research.

It's much easier if you actually have a passion for what you are writing about. I could write all day about hockey, and crank out a lot of quality articles on the subject. Unfortunately this isn't exactly the highest paying niche around. If you are lucky enough to have a passion for a subject that does pay well and are a talented enough writer to create quality content then the money will definitely follow.

Either you are writing articles for traffic or for link juice. If I were writing for traffic, which is usually not the case, I would spend a little more time on them. My record was 22 in one day (all submitted) and I don't think I spent more than 12 minutes on any one.

Try this: Give yourself 60 minutes to write an article. You say you can't do that, but give it a shot. If you get it done then submit it. If you don't, then the next day throw the article out, start over but give yourself only 50 minutes. Do this over and over until you can get down to where you knock off a 350 word article in under 15 minutes--any more than that and your time is being used inefficiently--really. If you really need articles and can't do them in under 15 minutes, you should outsource them.

Like the hockey guy said above--if you write about something for which you have a passion--they ought to come flying out of you like sh*t out of a pig. Really, try what I said above. Hope it works!

Bottom line is hopefully your niche is something you like and are knowledgeable about.

If this is the case, which it should be, you should be able to write articles as easily as talking to someone about your passion.

Quality copy writing skills will develop over time. As will speed.

Educate yourself with proper format and layout, not to mention leading your readers to your bio.

Using short snappy paragraphs, headlines/subheadlines, bullets non promotional links are also a part of the equation you need to become proficient at.

Ever notice forum posters who often write a post which could just as easily be published as an article?

It's no coincidence you will almost always see a large post count next to their name unless they just happen to be new to that particular forum.

I could go on, but then I might just as well write an article about it then shouldn't I. LOL

    Cheers,

I have to say I disagree here a bit. Yes, if you are knowledgeable in a niche you'll be more passionate about it but that is not something that's a prerequisite to me.

I make money in a number of niches where I do enough research to satisfy a basic understanding and then I write like I would selling it to someone face-to-face.

It is all about practice and repetition. If you are consistently writing a decent amount of articles day in and day out then sooner or later it is going to become second nature to you.

On the other hand, if you are someone who struggles to produce anything of value or has a hard time putting thoughts together into writing then pumping out 10 articles a day may just not be for you.

There are several things you need to consider.

1: writing is like a muscle, use it or lose it. For someone who has never written an article writing several articles today may seem insurmountable.

2: use voice recognition software. I use Dragon Speak voice dictation software. I think I paid $50 for a couple years ago on Amazon. It allows me to type at between 40 and 70 words a minute, depending on the content.

3: the more you know about a subject the easier it will be to write about some aspect of it. If you're having trouble coming up with ideas then perhaps you need to learn more about the subject.

4: keep notes. When I come across some good idea I write it down. Sometimes I have great ideas when I'm in the shower and sometimes I come across great ideas when reading other people's blogs. When I sit down to write an article I look through my notes.

It all boils down to your definitions for the words "article" and "quality"...

I get the sense that when you say 'article', you envision the long, detailed reviews, tutorials and essays commonly found in the tech journals you cited.

When article marketers use the word 'article', they're usually talking about 250-500 words filler material whose sole objective is to create a click or credit for a back link. It's like comparing a lion to a house cat - both are feline, but very different animals.

When it comes to quality in articles, it's kind of like porn - you may have a hard time defining it, but you know it when you see it. Filler articles for generating clicks don't require the level of in-depth research or fine tuning of text that getting published in a top-notch magazine or newspaper does.

Most are very formulaic. Lists of tips, Q&A, etc. that don't require a lot of effort once the keywords and topics have been determined. You can also recycle the same material into several articles by simply changing the formula.

There is definitely a skill to cranking out large quantities of effective articles, but much of that skill has little to do with actual writing.

    That's pretty insane
I've managed 30 in a day and felt totally drained.

If you look at most of the articles on EZA it proves your last comment there - many are such a low standard that even spending 5 minutes on an article is good enough to provide a better quality piece.

My advice is to rewrite PLR. That cuts out the research. Open up dupecop, slip the PLR article in the left. Now start reading and just rephrase as you type on the right. Use short PLR articles and keep yours short and sweet. When the number of uniqueness shows me 70% unique, I am satisfied and stop. I am not after traffic, I am after links. The articles are just the vehicle for the anchored links to my monetized site.

It's a reference to how old movies/TV shows had the villain wearing a black hat and the hero wearing a white hat.

Black hat refers to using unethical tactics.

Black Hat refers to search engine optimization and basically is a person that ignores the rules & regulations of the search engines.

Manipulate content for benefit of self with little or no regard for the website visitor or search engine.

                    Hi,

                    Just get use to it.

I used to write at least 1 article a day,

It's very hard to keep track of numbers..

But, once you get use to it, It's natural work!, you don't feel difficult doing it.

                    Good luck to your business

Nobody actually does this. They're just filling the web with trash by regurgitating what they've read and rewriting 2-3 other articles into their own.

Real content that adds value to the web, the kind of stuff you might see on a major site or published in a magazine, takes days or weeks to research and produce.

If authors could push out 4-5 quality articles a day, newspapers wouldn't be going out of business. They'd just have two people write each issue and fire the rest of the research and writer staff.

The simple answer is I can't
Even if I know the subject really well my limit is probably about six articles a day- if I don't know the subject it's alot less
I have outsourced sometimes as well and to be hoenst it rarely is as good as my writing- and I would hardly classify myself as a top notch, grammatically perfect writer.
I still find it so hard ot understand why people think it's so good to populate the net with badly written articles- I still stand by the truth that ONE good, well written article will pay more than 100 badly written ones.
Anyone who says they can write huge numbers of articles every day, and these are not just rewiters off someone else's work or a topic they are specialised in is not, in my opinion, judging thier own work accurately.

Practice makes perfect. Writing is a natural talent for some, but for most, it is an acquired skill.

When I started marketing, I was pretty resistant to the idea of writing articles but since I was not getting anywhere, I decided to start. And boy, my first article was ranked No.1 for a highly competitive keyword and since then, I am all over article marketing.

It is possible to write 4 or 5 articles per day. But after a while, you can consider outsourcing. Makes your life much easier so that you can focus on other things.

I almost can't believe someone would write something like that. It boggles my mind. You want to be rewarded for writing garbage you know is garbage? I'm so glad Google has intelligent enough people working there to continually make sure people like you are unsuccessful at manipulating the search results everyone relies on to find quality content and honest businesses.

There was once a time when Warrior Forum was a place to learn about honest business and marketing, but it seems that day is no more. The gurus have given up, realizing the only thing this generation of newbies want to buy is fast-track techniques to making a quick dollar, rather than long-term strategies for building a business you can be proud of and support a family with for years to come.

To provide an honest service which helps my customer solve their problem and increase their business's revenue?

I'm an AdWords advertiser, and I don't want clicks from people that were misled into arriving at your "quantity over quality" articles then have to click an ad only because your article was not what they were looking for at all.

Which is why I'm forced to opt-out of the content network and only buy direct placements on individual sites that have quality content.

Would ezine and all the other directories, accept an article of 150 words, maybe 200?.

I can't say hello in less than 500 words any more but I use a technique that I call "packing" on my 25,000 words or more projects that would work just great for you with your 150 word articles.
Every time you write an article of this size pack it inside a document on that subject. The next time you write on that subject, pack it inside that document. Now you have 300 words on that subject. Add another article and you have 450 words. Add two more and you have 750 words. Make a bullet heading for each article to separate one from the other. Now, strike out the duplicate content within this subject and you've got yourself a super-duper good article.

Reearch seems to be daunting and time consuming, but it doesn't have to be if you have the proper software. Software which is ideal has a random factor in the algorithm that prevents the same research from being gathered for the same keywords each time they are run. It makes article writing easy and effortless.

The thing is, writing the articles gets easier and easier. Okay, I'm a writer so I've had lots of practice BUT I wasn't always as fast as I am. I can bust out a 400 word article in ten minutes if I'm super focused. Being a fast typer helps. Writing a lot helps. The fact that I've been a writer for 7 years helps, too.

But mostly, I attribute my timer to helping me reach those speeds. If I set my timer for 15 minutes and I say, ok, the article will be done by the time it goes off, then I type my a*& off to beat my own goal.

If left to my own devices and I try to do all that writing without a timer, I get too distracted. I keep getting up. In fact before I finished this post I got up to make a cup of tea and get some fruit to munch on. I wouldn't have done that if the timer was ticking.

And take a look at my sites - I am not compromising quality. If I were, I wouldn't let myself write that fast, I'd slow down.

Trust me it is lot easier to do, I mean start writing and let it come from you head as start typing. Don't worry about the quality at the beginning.

Now a days I am setting up a stop watch and dedicate abt an hour of my time to write articles.

Rather than focusing on number of articles I clock myself for a certain time and try my best to write as many as I can.

My goal is to hit 10 articles in an hour in any niche I wish

I leverage every possible articles resources in order to get ideas for writing articles.

    Hope this helps.

Each one has their own unique strengths or may have been used to it -that's why they can pump out a number of articles in an hour.

But articles for your marketing on your niche? Days for a single article is way too expensive! Those hours might better have been spent in growing your business for profits.

Outsourcing might help but if you want to do it yourself, I suggest pulling in together some articles, get the idea, organize and summarize everything in your own words and that should have you one in few minutes.

And the more articles you create, make it your goal to finish one in a shorter time than the last one you've created.. Gradually you'll realize that you're pumping out a number of articles too in an hour!

I believe the best way to write articles is to write areas you understand and if you don't have any area of specialization simply get down to studying an area or niche that interests you you would be surprised that after a short time (as little as a week) you would be able to talk and write about it with confidence and then the more you write the better and more knowledgeable you would become.

Others here have said it. You have to know your topic and once you do you can pump content out pretty quickly. You also get faster as you practice writing different niches. Also think about how long the articles are. 250 words isn't that much... maybe half a page to a full page.

Practice practice practice. That's the key. And a little bit of knowledge in the niche.

The problem for most people who want to write for any reason is procrastination. For some reason it's easier to procrastinate over writing than almost anything else. I harbor a secret dream of writing a best selling novel, and I have a bunch of books about novel writing. They all feel the need point out that you can't produce any writing if you don't sit down and write because so many people would rather think or talk about writing and have a problem just getting started actually doing it. It's the 'butt in chair' problem more than anything else and it affects writers of all types.

I've been a technical and business writer for over ten years so I usually write in a 9-5 office job environment. Which means I've got pretty good at sitting down and just writing regardless of whether I really 'feel' like it or not. That's was a great advantage for me when I started writing articles for IM. And the more you do it, the easier it will get.

That's 114 words right there, and they're pretty well written. You're half way to a short article with just that forum post.

Can you talk about a subject for awhile? That's really all it takes. Tell us what you like about it, what you don't like about it, what somebody needs to know before they get involved with it, the easiest way to get involved with it, etc.

Write the way you talk and you'll do fine. If you want to make it even simpler, get a speech-to-text program like Dragon Naturally Speaking and just talk at it and let it do the typing.

Professional quality requires professional effort. Professional quality is worth all the effort required to produce it.
Many of the articles I produced 10 years ago are still bringing in traffic.
Purely for your information, back then it took me 2 weeks to produce a 500-800 word article good enough to sell to national publications. I had to sweat for every word. By consistently writing from 5 to 25 hours a day I have improved so much that now I can produce an excellent thousand word article per day if I never do more than 5 per week. Otherwise it is just one 1,000 word article per week and I'm really straining to do that much. I just returned from a retreat where I finally completed a 48 page treatise on the atonement -- with daily and weekly rewrites for the past 3 years.
Robert Bly can and does write circles around me so I know there are good and fast writers out there. I still don't see any reason to be ashamed of my production rate. Indeed, I am quite proud of how fast I do produce a finished product.
If you want to be a writer, or if you just want to write, my advice is to throw the clock out the window and concentrate on producing the very best work you are capable of. Gradually the quality of your writing will improve and gradually you will develop speed. When that happens it will be your quality and your speed. You will be comfortable with your talents and you will very likely be comfortable with your income.

    Well, to answer your question...

When you've developed a high level of skill as a writer, you soon experience the ability to write for hours (non-stop) as if you were in a.... Zone. While in this state of mind, creative ideas and new sentence combinations start flowing into your brain at warp speed.

Also, you've got to remember, the niches we choose are usually something of interest to us. When I'm writing articles for my own niche, I can write them with my eyes closed.

Writing 5 articles takes me a little over an hour to complete. Then, after one quick run-through, they're ready to be submitted to my sites or directories.

I guess the moral of my story is... practice makes perfect. :-)

There is a huge difference between the style of writing used in a newspaper and the style of writing used in a (good) online article. Most good article writers use an informal, chatty style and this allows them to write an article in their head as quickly as they can type one.

Imagine that you've done an hours work researching a particular niche. You may think that you haven't got any near enough information to write an article, but what if you were not writing, but talking? How many words would you use if you were describing what you just learned to a friend?

I'd be prepared to bet you'd use at least 500 words - easily enough to write a long article! I have set formats or templates that I always stick to when I'm writing articles, and I'll alternate between ten or so different templates. This allows you to always be sure what part of the issue you will tackle with your next paragraph, so you don't spend all of that time sitting and thinking.

Article spinners can also be handy, and if you use them right you can produce many more articles without sacrificing any content quality. The problem is that most people don' use them right!

Above all, practice makes perfect! You will find that over time your articles come out quicker and quicker. This doesn't mean that the content suffers - it just means you're getting better!

The thing is, Writing isn't for everybody.

If you're a slow writer or someone who don't enjoy
writing. The best approach is to outsource.

There's no point spending hours doing something
you don't like. Why not leverage other people's
time and work when you can.

There's are many ways that you can write a couple of good quality articles in a day and it doesn't matter if your language sucks.

One simple approach is just to talk about problems and solutions in an article.

For example, if you are writing an article for the weight loss niche, you can write

    1. Problem: need to fit into wedding dress because wedding is only 6 months away.
Want to look best since this is once in a lifetime.....

    2. Solutions: choose superfoods that can reduce weight...

    3. Bio: put link to your website which offers some product reviews.

If you write articles based on your target audience, you should have no problems
churning out couple of quality articles in a day.

Always remember that every articles that you write is going to be read by a person who is emotional and got feelings, and if you give them what they want, you are going to get a sale!

I have to schedule a time to site down and write and if nothing is coming I just start writing anyways. Many of my rough drafts start out with, "so I'm just sitting here in my room and there is nothing really happening right now..." and then I'll start thinking of ideas and get the post done.

Well I think with time people develop this ability and somehow can manage to come up with a lot of quality content in short periods, especially if you've got your researching down to a formula ie you know where to go to get really good information on your niche

I used to think like that. Now I typically generate 3-4 articles per day. It's an essential part of my SEO strategy for example.

This article on article marketing addresses your question.

And by the way, the hardest part of regular article marketing is finding inspiration. I only arrived in these forums a few days ago, but they've already inspired 5 articles and a couple of blog entries. The problems people ask about in these forums are the sorts of things that make for great articles.
