Just bought my first .io domain

.io have been moved to Google's "Generic Country Code Top Level Domains" section, meaning they no longer consider the extension as the indian ocean... Anyhoo I just bought one as it was a killer one word domain and looks really cool with the .io extension.

How it will do SEO wise time will tell but it will look good on print and offline advertising.

Does anyone here already have one?

Just an update. My .io is already ranked for one of my longer tail keywords in a competitive market with very little off page seo work.

      Hey

Thank you so much for sharing this, had never heard of the .io extensions. Worth exploring. Wish you all the best with your domain.

      Thanks

I think it costs $58 at NameCheap, not my cup of tea anyway, always prefer a .com domain name. For that amount I can buy 6 .com domain names.

No doubt google gives some extensions priority than others. For example, I tired to rank a .US site a while back and it failed miserably. My .com's of course fair the best but my new .io is doing well considering its age. I think if you can get a good EMD with .io and get serious with SEO you can do very well with it.

Btw, for Godaddy I use joinhoney.com to get .com's for less than $2 in many cases. Just install on firefox and it automatically finds the best deals.

I bought and sold video.io many years ago
There are several startups using that extension nowadays.

According to IANA, the Internet Assigned Numbers Authority, there are now 342 top level domain extensions. There will be more.

Dot com is the best extension for commercial business.

Dot com engenders more respect, trust, and authority for business than any other extension.

Dot com domains, all other things being equal, seem to rise the most in value compared to other extensions.

The more extensions that are added, the greater the value will be for dot coms.

Stick with the best. Just say "no" to the latest extensions.

I agree 100% with Steve, .com is King, but just want to add that .io isn't a new extension.
          I sold video.io in 2007
